Skyrim menus on PC

Post » Thu Oct 13, 2011 7:20 am

Hey guys.

Has there been any information released about the PC version of Skyrim regarding the menus and UI?

From the videos that I've seen (given they're all 360 footage) the menus are obviously consolified and if other games are anything to go by - these will simply be ported onto the PC version. Is this likely what will happen?
If that is the case I suppose they will be modded but to me that's just lazy from Bethesda.

I only ask as it is something that is really annoying. Having the ability to do things two times faster hampered and made fiddly is seriously frustrating and detracts from the game, for example, Borderlands. This is so much more severe for RPGs as you spend quite a bit of time in menus.

Todd is very proud of his menu system. I doubt very much that he will butcher it in order to make a proper PC interface. It might be controllable with the mouse, but I doubt we will get much more than that.

They made the same mistake over and over again with Morrowind, Oblivion and Fallout, why get smart now?

We've got a PC exclusive favorite section in the menu at least.

A proper PC UI would not be a butcher... the console UI is a butchering of PC standards.

From all the PC reviews it sounds very intuitive and easy to manage.

It was already said awhile back that the UI will be better as far as "large font sizes" etc. It's not going to be how Oblivion was with the PC from consoles.

ye its been dumbed down for< oh i should say "made easier for" consoles and the latest generation on fps, not the true rpg fans which made bethesda what they are 2day.

but ill say it again thats why we are lucky we can fix it.

The UI is fine the way it is and if not mods will change it.

I agree, I was just saying that from Todd's perspective, changing his slick, apple-inspired UI to make it more PC friendly would be like butchering it.

Will the menus and controls be keyboard and mouse optimized?
For me the answer is obvious: no.

But it's not new, Oblivion menus are "consolified" the same way.
Morrowind menus were more PC like, but by far not the best UI I've used on a PC RPG.

Will it be epic fail?
I don't think so. The menus may not be tailored for keyboard and mouse controls but that does not mean they won't be ok and easy to get used to.

They do look sweet visually however.

It wouldn't really change that much, it would likely work like Crysis's Suit Control menu click the middle mouse button and move up down left or right, and within the menus I heard that they are different to fit more to a computer(Don't quote me on this but I swear I heard Pete Hines say something similar)

They haven't shown anything, and don't expect them too. The only console that gets to have gameplay footage and whatnot is the 360 until 11-11-11.

However, I do remember Pete saying that the PC UI will be modified a few months ago, so maybe it is different.

The font/UI size is going to be smaller on the PC.
