Skyrim Modders and Mods...

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 5:14 pm

How involved in modding do you plan to be?

I've never made any mods for Morrowind or Oblivion, though I've messed around in the Construction Set for Oblivion a few times. However, I have a lot of big plans to make various quest and adventure mods for Skyrim, assuming I'm able to figure out the Construction Set.

I played A TON of Oblivion mods, and in doing so, I learned a lot. I learned what works and what doesn't, and clearly saw what people did right and what people did horribly, horribly wrong. With this knowledge, I think I'll be able to make some really fun quest mods once Skyrim comes around, so I'm pretty excited. I've already made several notes about the story and key features in the quest mods I'm planning without making too big of assumptions about how Skyrim's engine will work.

What about you guys? Modding is a huge part of the Elder Scrolls experience for me. Any of you guys on consoles out there should really invest in a gaming-capable PC just for the hours and hours of added gameplay from player-made mods.

I'll likely make one or two small ones to deal with certain pet peeves or whatever of mine or if I like the appearance/style of certain weak armor/weapons I might recreate unique more powerful versions.

I will also probably download a number of other people's, notably -

-A UI mod because no doubt the PC one will be a terrible mess designed to be used by people without mice. Will probably be the first thing I download.
-A mod dealing with light/darkness unless they finally see the light and make proper darkness instead of everything being lit by some strange universal glow.
-Mods to upgrade the graphics as much as possible since it sounds like it'll be held back quite a bit due to their console limitations.
-If they go through with their favorites menu thing, hopefully a mod that will allow actual hotkeying will be released asap, and I'll definitely download that.

I just wanted to mention that Gstaff said that the PC version will also have hotkeys, in addition to the favorites.

Many of the people who do hotkeying on PC want or use mods that makes so you can hotkey anything to any unused key lol. I am going to bring in any old lore books left out of the game into stores and random loot, make a library containing every book, and make the world more realistic like making it look like NPCs go to other provinces, add sailors and ships that leave port cities from time to time. That stuff.

I'll prob do some retexturing once I can figure it out...

Other than that, download stuff other people make and do some mucking about with the construction set.

I've been modding since Oblivion and once again i plan to mod in Skyrim. I generally mod for myself and release whatever i make in case anyone else wants it. My only worry about modding is with the new game engine the scripting will probably change so it probably won't be so idiot friendly (yes i consider myself an idiot). If that turns out to be the case i'll either need to learn scripting somehow or only do stuff that doesn't require scripts.

I'll make at least one or two, maybe more. And yes I've modded for both Morrowind and Oblivion. Currently working on http://sites.google.com/site/ladyphaedra13/guildbenefits now.

I'd hope that the Construction Set will be a little more accessible considering how big modding was for Oblivion, though a more complicated engine might mean a more complicated Construction Set. We'll see.

I always thought the construction set was rather accessible and easy to use. Some things were a bit cumbersome but with the Fallout games they made some improvements on sections to make it easier to use which hopefully is a good indication for skyrim. I always found the world building view controls a bit iffy since they never worked how i expected them to.

Since its a new engine and a new construction set i'd expect it to be less complicated than the previous ones. Regardless of who is using it the community or the developers i'd think they would want it as easy to use as possible.

Barring being able to mod in necromancy as a whole independent skill, plenty of people has tried it before. Magic mods are always fun as long as setting up particle systems isn't a pain.

Definitely hoping for a more robust construction set. One that doesn't depend on a whole lot of third party tools and hacks...

What do you mean ? The dungeons in Oblivion where pretty dark and the need of a torch sometimes was even annoying because couldn't see anything in.

I'll surely make at least a "dream house-castle" mod. If it's good enough I'll release it...

I've done some modding for Oblivion, Fallout3, and New Vegas, None of them have ever been released though, Skyrim likely won't be any different.

I really don't remember any dungeons that were dark enough to impair vision in Oblivion at all, and nights were unreasonably bright.

I've made lot's of Oblivion mods,I downloaded lot's of other people's mods but I started making and using mods too late (2009).
With Skyrim I plan to start learning how to use the editor by the first day it comes out.

And getting your game spoiled? I think not.

I won't touch the CK until I've completed at least a full playthough.

Hmm... yeah you're right.
Perhaps I'll see if I can do anything without having to load already existing cells or quests.
But you are right.
I should start getting deeper after I played the game long enough.

That'd limit you to do very little things (like item stat changes), and you'd STILL get spoiled, even if you don't pretend to :)

For Morrowind and Oblivion both, I made quite a few mods and downloaded a lot of mods. As of yet, I haven't shared any with the community, though I plan on it for Skyrim.

I use plenty of mods, have tweaked a few and made some very small ones that weren't released because nobody would want them.

My first priority is a transportation system mod. No nothing about scripting and such. But I could write dialouge and help with voice acting.

I like to make custom spells and a proper house mod.
And this time i'll probably download a mod for travel alternatives, then modify it to my personal taste.

I usually only download mods that improve broken systems, or add stuff i've been dying for.
