Skyrim pc mods as console dlc

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 12:03 pm

Love the idea. I've played on pc and on consoles, although I currently game on consoles. (Not enough time for building anything these days. Also: money.)
Some of the Oblivion mods still have me in awe and I will probably be completely blown away by ones for Skyrim. It would be great if I could get mods for
what I do have. (Fantastic topic, btw.)

No, never. It's PC exclusive. Secondly, it would pretty much invalidate DLC on consoles.

I see games as art and I would like to think a developer would like to see their art to be as good as it can be, which Skyrim isn't. Don't get me wrong it is an amazing game and one of the greatest games ever made, but there are details in the game Bethesda seem to have completely missed either through lack of attention or because they have had to restrain the content they put into it

IMO the only thing in the game that has been influenced by "consoles" is the UI. The textures don't even work properly on the xbox for heavens sake. TES games have never been aimed at the "cutting edge" of PC technology, the hardware requirements have never been that high. Their games have always been aimed at mid-range hardware, the biggest market, and consoles fall within that. On average I do not find PC exclusives to be any better than console exclusives or multi platform games. All this tosh about how Skyrim would be way better if it was developed first for PC and then ported to consoles. The UI would be better, and that is all.

As though consoles are the reason that the horse controls are rubbish, or that some of the quests are cliche. Yeah... right.

I would love to see successful mods ported to consoles in the future. There is absolutely no reason that consoles should be deprived of mods because a few elitists are getting "protective" about the exclusivity of the PC modding scene.

Can't imagine it will happen for Skyrim but would be great if Beth extend the modding scene to consoles in the future somehow.

Honestly I can see why they take the attitude they do; they're in a business where, particularly for consoles, new games are coming out every 5 minutes and if you release too late you could miss your chance to make X amount more sales; inevitably developers push for an unrealistic release date in order to get their game out in time, and cut a lot of corners because of it. Personally, I wouldn't mind developers taking the same path as the devs of Batman: Arkham city, where the PC version is being released 2 or 3 weeks later so that they can optimise it for the platform.

PC optimization for Arkham City is just an excuse, it's delayed because of piracy.

I think the real question is, would you actually pay for a player made mod?

And can Bethesda actually sell a player made mod.

Why not? If the mod is good I wouldn′t mind at all. In fact I think its a [censored] great idea, because you will have tons of people working on mods, competing each others to make the best mod to be able to sell it to bethesda. In resume: more quality, much more content avaible, new ideas, etc a win win for everybody.

That's unfair keeping it from consoles just so PCs "Have something going for them"

I doubt we'll get it this gen but hopefully in the future.

It's unfair PC users get a gimped game so you console players can actually have the game to play.

svck it up.

lol Then they should have delayed 360 and PS3 also.

I don't see the problem with consoles getting usermade mods. Although it seems some users on this forum feel almost endangered/threatened by it - weird.

However, all content on the consoles is required to go through a QA check which could be very time consuming for whoever will be responsible for that.

And, I doubt they can "sell" a player-made mod. Unless they plan on giving the player most of the profit. >_>

Depends on the mod.

Not going to have graphical mods on the console, they are already tapped and the hardware is too limited, especially the ps3's Vram that is already taxed with texture loading.

Other mods that basically utilize consoel commands is different and easily done. Additionla content if created, sub quests or NPC modifications, as long as it is genuine code.

It's more improtant to have beth do tweaks to the game.

PC users want higher textures and graphical mods.

THe sad truth is the game was limited due to consoles, which today have below adverage specs. Todays PC's and GPU are generations ahead of current consoles, and it is time for new consoles.

PC games are typically graphically superior in every way to Console games, if the developers utilize it that is, you have options for level of detail. While the consoles are not capable (other then xbox if done right since it has some higher handling abilities over the ps3, and don't bother arguing over that) PC's are cabable of much higher detail, and stability. A console with 256mb of vram, and another set for running the audio aspects is going nto have to fast stream data to moderatly keep up, which can lead to neglect in other aspects.

A pc with 2-16gig of main system ram, and 1-4gig of video ram can achieve much higher standards.

Does anyone know or have any info about wether or not it is possible for bethesda to take pc mods for skyrim and make them into dlc for consoles. If possible is it likely to ever happen.
If this was possible it would be epic for console gamers like me.

trust me most mods svck. il sum up the average mod "ok lets take that one sword from lord of the rings that gandalf uses and turn it black and red and lets put black flames around yep this looks nice but something is missing ah yes we forgot to put wings on its user." you arent missing much CMikha i learned from searching for morrowind mods that the majority of modders have there heads up there own backsides. although occasionally you do dig up a gem from the sea of dirt that fills the average elder scrolls modding sight.

It may be true from my brief research into mods that many aren't great, but like I mentioned earlier in this thread I have already downloaded a mod that makes arrows craftable in game and this was done without the CK so I am eager to see what will be done with it.

if a console had as little ram as you said it does it wouldnt even be able to play on low settings heck you would be lucky if the game looked like a bad Picasso painting. also dont worry the next generation of consoles is coming soon and i estimate they have about the same settings as a skyrim worthy computer on high.

You'll never see TES mod'ing as it is today on the consoles. That's not to say you'll never see mods on the consoles though. Todd and Beth seem to be so in love with the consoles they have no qualms in slighting the PC community in making their games, I could see Beth wanting mod's on consoles bad enough to submit to whatever quality and security requirements that MS and Sony would have for user created content, which will most likely mean a stripped down CK that amounts to little more than a map maker by the time they are done (same as other games on consoles that allow user created content).

Of course this isn't anywhere close to what TES mod'ing is today, but if enough console users complain about it I'm sure Todd will grant them their wishes even if it destroys their community on the PC side. Just one more thing in the video game industry destroyed by the console manufacturers. Console folks can keep asking for this all they want, but they'll never get what they are asking for.

i didnt say all mods svck i would be the biggest fool around to say that Tamriel Rebuilt svcks. also the numerous texture mods and even a few race mods are worth looking into.

I beg to differ. Take Oblivion. Mods like the Unofficial Oblivion Patch, All Natural, Immersive Interiors (which is my mod, but along with these it's absolutely nothing like the mods you mention), FCOM, Unique Landscapes, Darn UI. What do these mods do? Fix thousands of bugs in the game, improve the weather system 10 fold, let you see the cities from inside the windows, give you thousands of new loot, items and creatures and improve Oblivion's levelling system, make the landscapes Unique and Interesting and improve the UI. Those are a tiny fraction of the literally THOUSANDS of superb mods that are about, that fix anything and add anything you could possibly want.

Very few mods are simply nvde textures or wings. They are there, and if you like them, great, but very few mods follow that pattern. I am a modder, and I am not stuck up my own backside. Quit generalising.

What he said was true though. The PS3 has 256 MB for video ram and 256 MB for system ram, while the Xbox 360 has 512 MB video ram that the system also uses.

i said most not all. and your lying if you say oblvion and morrowind mod sites arent seeded with useless or buggy to the point of uselessness mods. but i suppose im ticked because it takes far to long to find a mod that isnt completely conflicting with the game lore.

They aren't. Take a look at the forums, you'll be hard pressed to find useless mods.

And the "Top 100 Endorsed of all time" on TESNexus: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/top/alltime.php

I see one nvde mod, and a few perhaps "touchy" weapons and armour. Everything else is entirely different, and far from "garbage".

il list a few of those that i think should lose there top 100 status deadly reflex because its incredibly buggy look up some youtube videos of its glitches you will see what i mean. Apachii goddess store because its all but declaring open war with the current age the game is in. Rens beauty pack because there is no such thing as a mystic elf. Akatosh mount because again it conflicts with lore. see the pattern? i look for mods that have content that is supported by the lore of the series and there are next to none of those. but i have a found a few granted not many but i have found them. best one that i have found is the Tamriel rebuilt mod. then again i suppose its all about taste really.

First, a quick note, this is a perfectly fine discussion topic. We do not allow threads about how to get mods onto a console, but the possibility of Bethesda releasing such content officially is entirely acceptable.

Releasing fan-made mods on consoles would be extremely difficult for Bethesda. New content has to go through extensive QA, which includes mod combinations to look for compatibility problems. This severely limits how many such mods Bethesda could release, which means they'd need sort of review process for selecting the few lucky winners. This itself would not only be time consuming, but it means dealing with the "Why did you select X instead of Y" backlash that would surely follow. I wouldn't say that this could never happen, but I do think it's very unlikely. (Similar requests were made for Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Fallout New Vegas, obviously to no avail.)

It's worth remembering that with Bethesda's open world games new content gets piled on top of eachother, and this really complicates multiple DLC releases. When developement is internal it's easier to track and test this. Even then, Bethesda has kept new content largely outside of the existing world, and kept the number of DLC relatively low. With a lot of games DLC doesn't overlap - your average game has distinct levels and additional levels don't need to take the others into consideration.

Wouldn't Bethesda be able to see what a person has done with a mod, recreate it in house and send out as dlc for consoles, the mod would be considered dlc and would go through the same checks as dlc

They could set up something like an App Store where mods would have to be approved and then they can charge console users to get them. I think they'd make a lot of money if they did it. Just lock the downloads to one specific site that Bethesda controls.
