Skyrim in Morrowind Engine

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 2:13 am

Hello People. I'm new to these forums, but I've had this idea in my head for a long time, and I just recently decided to implement it into the TES CS. I am unfortunately not experienced well with the Set, but it is really easy to learn in about a day. This is also not a project aimed at being really serious, I'm mainly doing this as exercise and because I can.

The idea behind this mod is (obviously) to put Skyrim's Quests/ NPCS/ Features/ Map into the Morrowind Engine, and so far, I've had some success. I'm not starting on any Skyrim Cells or Creature Models until I have enough done, which isn't a lot.

NOTE: I'M NOT USING *ANY* RESOURCES FROM SKYRIM. I WILL ONLY USE CUSTOM-MADE AND INCLUDED RESOURCES. ANY NEW SOUND IS A VOICE ACTOR OUTSIDE OF BETHESDA.

So far I'm done with:
  • Ulfric Stormcloak, with 1 quest.
  • Topics: Rebels, High King, Empire, Thalmor.
  • Ralof, as a wandering NPC who's part of the first Stormcloak quest.
  • Hatred between Imperials and Stormcloaks.
  • Werewolves(But no model change)
  • Dragons(With Argonian Models at the Moment)
  • Renaming Holds (Whiterun, The Reach, Eastmarch, ect..)
  • Unrelenting Force Shout.
  • NPCS that actually GO HOME.

The closest I could get to Ulfric in looks.

Ralof The Stormcloak, has more speech options, but I'm still in CharGen mode.

Children (This voice actor would preferably be a female, or a young boy)

Hadvar

Ulfric Stormcloak

You should talk to the http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1239235-skyrim-home-of-the-nords/page__st__120__p__20187662__hl__skyrim%20home%20of%20the%20nords__fromsearch__1#entry20187662, since they are creating the Skryim landmass as it was in TESIII time.

Would you mind? I'm busy doing the fish-stick! It's a very delicate state of mind! >:o

Anyway, I plan on getting all the npcs first (yet maybe inaccurate looks for some), and use Seyda Neen as a testing area. I forgot to mention the completion of Stormcloak Guards (Which Roam Seyda Neen instead of Imperials), who I plan on having clear your bounty if they like you.
I'm also thinking about adding more depth to the story; In the civil war, the Stormcloaks plan revenge on Imperial victory, and vice versa.

You yourself can also have the opportunity to perform the Black Sacrament (I don't know if it even possible in Skyrim?), yet minus the candles and flesh.

I apologize for any grammatical issues, I'm tired and should really be in bed right now.

this.

a whole lot has already been done, i only just walked around the reach last week. there's some awesome buildings already made by muspila, lestat and dirnae.
i'm not sure how many quest makers it has, but quests are usually hard for big projects like TR and SHOTN.

so maybe you should try and join them to make skyrim? and i don't see the interest in replaying skyrim's MQ in morrowind. i've already played it once already. maybe something new would be cooler?

Yes, working on SHOTN seems like a good idea, since it would produce the map portion, at least approximately. Once it was done, you could just mod it to add in modern Skyrim NPC's and quests.

Thanks for the feedback and help, guys. I plan to implement a slightly altered story in middle. Along with more side quests that consist of reactions to your main story.

(e.g. before you lock up odahviing, someone may offer help). I also plan on adding people who deceive you, sometimes intentionally via advice or rumors.

Anyway, I have 2 questions:

  • Where can I find the contact information for the SHoTN Team?

  • When I get the mod, how do I apply its map and cells to mine?

this is there site
http://daryam.com/skyrim/forums/

but you can't just take their assets for your mod, and you have to pass a quest showcase (probably simple for you if you've already made all those quests)

I checked their site, yet found no contact information. I did however, find recruit section, but I don't want to apply.

Then don't. SHotN are not just copying skyrim, which I love about them (and projects like P:C too), but that seems to be what you want.

There are no equivalent resources for skyrim though, so I would start learning to model. Also I can't take the top list seriously without a single screenshot.

Actually not true, SHOTN and Skyrim will be completely different, for one theres a redguard town and no dwemer ruins in SHOTN.

Oops correction I misread that x.x tired and all.

As for skyrim in morrowind, I wouldn't really think it'd work. Plus theres no real reason to make skyrim in the Morrowind engine and if you tried you'll most likely get a warning from Bethesda.

I do find it a little pointless remaking a currently available game in an older game, but I try(/tried) not to judge.
Plus it'd have to be a TC to be lore correct too, and the engine is completely mismatched for it (shouts in particular I'm thinking here).

edit: I sound annoyed, I'm not I just find it a little ridiculous. 'I'm going to recreate a game in this engine that took a full team of people years to do, but it's not serious, just a little exercise'. You make it sound trivial, and it ain't.

Thanks for your input, I will admit I was a bit hurt by it, but I'll accept it as constructive criticism. But you make it sound as though all I'm doing is trying to limit myself to just the storyline. But I'm not; I'm altering it to fit the Morrowind engine a little more. The combat system in Morrowind wouldn't fit the whole Skyrim story, as some parts of the Skyrim Story have you kill experienced beasts at level 1. Therefor, I'm going to make small quests for the beginning, make the monster start off small(cave rats, anyone?)

I'm simply trying to give Skyrim more depth, something that the actual game itself lacked. You couldn't make your own spells, the alteration spells were limited, and almost all the spells consisted of Destruction magic that you use against giants at level 18.

And as for the shouts:

Fus Ro Dah - Jump Target/Touch

Ice Breath - Frost Damage + Paralyze

Whirlwind Sprint - Fortify Speed for 3 secs

Fire Breath - Easy, Just fireball

Dragonrend Shout - Damage Magicka(As dragons will be using this to fly)

Slow Time - Damage Speed on Target

The CS is really getting me angry, it removed ALL of my dialogue topics, reset ALL of the cells, and deleted ALL custom journal entries. It says something about loading bad TES3 file whenever I open the mod

if you don't have a backup (always copy your mod somewhere else after changing lots of things), try renaming the pukcab.bak to pukcab.esp, it should be a copy of your last saved mod.
If anything else fails, you can try fixing the mod with http://code.google.com/p/mlox/wiki/Tes3cmd#recover_-_Recover_usable_records_from_plugin_with_%27bad_form

How do I change it?

EDIT: NEVERMIND! Using winrar works

NEWER EDIT: Thank you so much. It works. I shall tweak the mod a bit more and upload any media. Thanks, guys!

Personally, I would recommend joining http://daryam.com/skyrim/forums/index.php?sid=3f896982df56f8f3836a30cc10ba876c and helping them out with their project. 'Tis better to have a bunch of people work together on one project than individual people work on a bunch of separate projects of the same thing.

Although I agree that it's usually helpful to volunteer for big projects, I think you might be missing the point, TES. This mod appears to be a TC with the intention of bringing Skyrim in the Skyrim game era to the Morrowind engine. SHotN is a mod which adds Morrowind Game-era Skyrim to the Morrowind Game world. The goals are completely different.

Regardless of the approach, I commend anyone for trying to bring the lost (read: cut) elements from Morrowind to the Skyrim game. I haven't played Skyrim, myself, but I have been disappointed by aspects I've read about and testimonials from those who have. My particular concern is the lack of fleshed out guilds and faction quest lines.

UglyIgloo, if you feel as if you are getting a degree of resistance to your mod, it may be because of the language you have used to describe your process. Your audience here is people who have been modding Morrowind with the TESCS for upwards of five or more years. Someone coming in and stating the intention of learning it in a day is at best over-ambitious and at worst, an arrogant slap in the face. You have done the equivalent of walking into a mechanic's shop and declaring you can build a Rolls Royce from spare parts in a week. Depending upon how seriously you are taken, you may be laughed at, or you may walk back out with a black eye. In any case, you are much less likely to get any assistance in the future.
