Yeah. Infact, anyone who does not agree with this post or denies it obviously did not read it, or didnt understand it.

Or they've taken a few classes in logic. Or they just know that the definition of "multiplayer" involves multiple people playing at the same time.

Every game, regardless of whether it has a multiplayer component, has some form of online community.

But if it gives you the warm fuzzies to think that sharing your gameplay experiences in a forum is like playing the game with friends, more power to you.

I understand what you're trying to say, but I don't agree with your assessment that because people talk about their experiences playing a game that it's multi-player. In my eyes there is a difference between sharing an experience after the fact and being able to directly influence the experience of others while they play. When I sit down with a single-player game I can choose to ignore things I've heard from others and I'm free to do what i want because i want, with a traditional multi-player game I have to work with or against other people who will provide a varying range of gameplay experiences. That being said I agree that sharing stories, hints, the pc mod community does greatly increase the quality and duration of the experience that typically goes with Bethesda open world titles.

Well its certainly a popular thread!

Basically what I was trying to point out is a different definition of "multiplayer" as opposed to "online" or "competitive multiplayer". Multiplayer doesnt mean its online it means that other players are going to influence your personal experience.

Ill admit that I'm biased because my term paper is on the impact of gaming communites on the gaming industry and how the evolution of collaborative play has effected gaming

Well I did read it, if you are saying there is MP, you are sadly mistaken, it's already been confirmed no MP.

How could you have read it, when you still claim he said there is Multiplayer ingame.

My headache disagrees.

Ok you didn't understand it then.

Actually, it is true. Your comparison isnt a good one. Cars dont compare to video games. I know you probably though your comparison would be neat and smart, but its not. No offense. Basically, what he is doing, is that he is bringing one of the earliest definitions of "multiplayer" gaming. Where two people could receive enjoyment from the same game even though they arent the ones behind the controller. But i guess its a perspective thing.

1 player + XX spectators does not equal multi-player.

I don't believe participating in a forum has anything to do with multiplayer. Sharing opinions/advice on a game forum is not the same as playing a game with friends.

I think you need to come up with a different word. Because that's really not what the term "multiplayer" means. Multiplayer means exactly what it says: there are multiple players at the same time. That doesn't mean that I play, and then you read my post about playing and play your game differently. That means that we have to play the same game together.

Again, all for the warm-and-fuzzy feelings, but you're trying to redefine a word that is used by a lot of people in a very particular way.

I agree, this forum is basically online chatting about the game nothing more or less. We are also not playing the game right now we are talking about the game there is a big difference.

Im not forcing a viewpoint down anyone's throat just opening people up to reflect on how these games are played and displaying a close relation to to arcade style.

Well just call it a collaborative game then....

Ok, I think that can apply somewhat.

But you kind of ignore the fact that for any given game, the forum community makes up about 5% of the playerbase, if that. I think if you're going to be making an argument in your term paper that gaming "communities" have a strong effect on development, you're going to have to come up with better evidence than "people talk on the forums".
