Skyrim's Music

Post » Tue Aug 18, 2009 5:11 am

I thought the snippet of music you get sounded terrific. Gave me chills. :D I suspect Soule as well. Did not sound like Inon Zur, for which I am happy. I thought his work in Dragon Age Origins was largely forgettable.

Daggerfall theme:

Morrowind Theme:

Oblivion theme:

Skyrim Theme:

You can see how the theme has evolved over time from just a few bars used in incidental music to a distinctive tune in TES III, IV and V.

Well, Skyrim has been officially announced and we are all excited and happy and going nuts about it but I've got a question that I was hoping someone from Bethesda could answer, is Jeremy Soule coming back for TES V?
Because Morrowind and Oblivion's music are great and I still hum them when I walk around to places when I don't have an iPod with me and of course just exploring places in the games themselves :P

:touched:

Mr. Bullfrog:

When will you make Dungeon Keeper 3?

OT: Yes, I've never gotten tired of the ingame music for these games.

I loved the music in the teaser video. I can hear the drum beat from Morrowind in it.

Only Soule's music can give me that kind of chills. I've been watching the trailer all over and over again just to hear that music again and again. I'm 95% sure it's Soule.

I liked the music I hope thats the main music theme for Skyrim. It sounds similar to Oblivion but its different it has a more tribal feel to it then Oblivions main theme did.

I hope Jeremy Soule does return for this episode, I think his music really adds atmosphere to the series, and the music used in the trailer is certianly of his caliber.
I really do enjoy a bit of choir singing; and the one in the trailer is no exception. It's awesome!

To quote myself from another thread:

But it was Soule's tune. It's The Elder Scrolls' theme, but Soule wrote it, so he kind of owns it. I doubt Beth would be able to use the tune without him or at least his consent, so I assume they've got Soule back.

Aside from the main chanting theme, did anyone hear the music playing as Todd took the stage? It was a solo high-pitched very angelic sounding female vocalist, somewhere between "Glory of Cyrodiil" and the music playing in Lord of the Rings: Return of the King when Gandalf is riding his horse out from Gondor to repel Sauron's army. Anyway, you don't get to hear that bit in the official trailer on the website, but I liked it very much.

I certainly hope it is Jeremy Soule as well, due to his tenure with The Elder Scrolls series dating back to Morrowind, I think the music he composed for both games is fitting. And remember, the "morrowind theme" is actually the theme for the entire The Elder Scrolls series, which is why it was used (albeit modified) in Oblivion, and why it was used seemingly (albeit modified) for the trailer for Skyrim, although we don't necessarily know the theme for the actual game, unless Bethesda has changed course, I imagine some form of "Morrowind / TES theme" will be used for Skyrim.

I really hope so. His music is a very important part of the Elder Scrolls identity, and would be a shame if he didn't return.

Did anyone else hear the music playing while the monks were on stage? I thought it was really great too.

Different generations of players, mate. Started with Morrowind myself, which leads to some mistaken ideas as to what was always here. Patience is required I guess, oh wise one. :P

Actually have Daggerfall, but my old computer broke down shortly after I finally managed to make it work. Never got around re-installing it.

I'm the opposite. I started with Oblivion and bought Morrowind.

On Topic, I really want him to be the composer, the soundtrack he made was uplifting and really added to the atmosphere of the game.

This and Mass Effect 3 really made my day :)

Agreed.

I would say it is another Jeremy Soule mix of Nerevar Rising. I'll call it Dovahkiin's Blood until we get an official track name.

And it does fit for Skyrim. Blood-boiling warriors slaying monsters and each other.

This variation on the TES theme was really awesome. Even if it's not Jeremy Soule(which I highly doubt), this theme kicks major ass.

The music and the narrator made me so happy.
Also the content and thinking needed for the trailer made me very excited.

I was worried the narrator was too much like Tiber Septim (Patrick Stewart) Obviously, not him, but another grizzled old man. How about a woman? Or a young warrior?

Also....I can't help but compare the chanting to the "Dig a dig a diggity dig" song from Pocahantas.

That said, the opening drum beats sound almost exactly like Nerevar rising, and the more I listen to the trailer, the more I like the chanting at the end.

I couldn't wait for the theme to be released, so I chopped up and stitched together the music from the trailer in Audacity. The end result isn't the best, but that's what I got for 45 minutes of work, since I really need to get back to coding my C assignment. I will come back and fix it up after I've done some bits of the assignment. For now enjoy it:

P.S. If there's a problem with this at Beths side I will remove the video and the mods can feel free to delete the link.
