Skyrim's Music

Post » Mon Aug 17, 2009 7:49 pm

Well, Skyrim has been officially announced and we are all excited and happy and going nuts about it but I've got a question that I was hoping someone from Bethesda could answer, is Jeremy Soule coming back for TES V?
Because Morrowind and Oblivion's music are great and I still hum them when I walk around to places when I don't have an iPod with me and of course just exploring places in the games themselves :P

:touched:

It sounds very Jeremy Souleish to me. I bet you 1000 Septims that he's back for this one.

Yep, I'd like to know who does the music. The announcement trailer music was very moody and dark, which really helped set the scene for the trailer.

At the very least, the music used in the teaser is a variation on the unofficial official Elder Scrolls theme that's been in use since Morrowind... and isn't that where Soule came into the franchise?

That piece of music in the trailer did indeed sound a lot like something that Jeremy Soule has done before with Morrowind and Oblivion.

Soule indeed, would be very surprised if not.

Yeah, epic and slightly cheesy but I have a huuuuuuge weak spot for that, always had. Bought the Morrowind score and it's still, well.

I love how once again, the theme is different while being instantly identifiable. You'd have played it to me, telling me nothing, I would have known.

The closer the music is to Morrowind's the better, IMO.

I don't supsect we will know this for a Long time, I suspect not until we start getting regular "The Making Of" videos.

I'm almost certain(emphasis on almost), that the music from the trailer was another remix of Nerevar Rising from Morrowind, just like Reign of the Septims was. I hope that Soule will be the one to do the music, and if not then whoever did the music for the trailer must do the music for the rest of the game.

The first few seconds of the trailer remind me of the start of the Morrowind menu theme.

Yeah I am pretty sure its him but I just woke up into the awesomeness of knowing about the announcement and I'm second guessing myself :P

This and Mass Effect 3 really made my day :)

Yes, I hope it is J.S.

Oh, I do hope so!

The Morrowind theme tune is my favourite piece of music, bar none. I love that game to pieces, and part of that is down to the sheer atmosphere of that song.

The Oblivion theme tune is also pretty epic - I always end up comparing it to "He's a Pirate!" from Pirates of the Caribbean I for some reason xD. And I really like the chanting thing they have going on in the trailer.

Please let it be Jeremy Soule!

I suppose I will play with the vanilla music for the first two years, then play with modded music for a year, then switch to sound only...just like I did with Oblivion. IT'S INEVETIBLE...

I just started listening to the Morrowind soundtrack while studying: it's a great help.

The chanting is, indeed, freakin' awesome. I'm hoping we'll get more of that in the game itself. The trailer theme felt new, but at the same time, recognizably Elder Scrolls. I love it.

Oblivion and Morrowind had the best soundtracks ever composed.

It's a more badass nordic version of what I like to call "the elder scrolls theme song". It's fun if you listen to how it's changed from daggerfall to skyrim. In daggerfall it was very 64bit and "pretty" sounding. Morrowind it went a very air instrument and peaceful version which I think reflected the game world well. Oblivion's version sounded to me very civilized, powerful and imperialistic. Suitable considering the game was based in Cyrodiil. Skyrims however sounds very powerful and Nordic. And gives me the feel this will be a much darker game than it's predecessors.

The music in the beginning reminded me a lot of Morrowind's music.

Finally someone who acknowledges that the theme didn't start with Morrowind. I was starting to think I'd imagined Daggerfall.

Different generations of players, mate. Started with Morrowind myself, which leads to some mistaken ideas as to what was always here. Patience is required I guess, oh wise one. :P

Actually have Daggerfall, but my old computer broke down shortly after I finally managed to make it work. Never got around re-installing it.

Hey don't look at me, I'm an Oblivion Console Kiddie. :P

I suppose that makes me more likely to notice what sounds like the Oblivion theme when I am playing Daggerfall.

The music is absolutely mind-blowing, way better than Oblivion's, it reminds me a lot of Hans Zimmer's Pirates Of the Caribbean soundtrack (At World's End especially) and he's the master of epic music in my opinion (would be amazing if he reworked this theme, but I doubt it). Whoever did this (probably Jeremy Soule again) really did an excellent job in making it sound as epic as possible. Really drew me in.
