Skyrim needs better Redguards!

I agree with you but I voted "No" because Crowns and Forebearers refer to political allegiances in TES: Redguard, not "breeds." =/

Oh please, post-TESA: Redguard Redguards have plenty of merits to stand on! Like being the only human race with consistently good voice actors through both Morrowind and Oblivion. I dearly hope they bring back Michael Mack for Skyrim - I wouldn't want anyone else's voice doing the Redguards, and he's done justice to them ever since voicing Cyrus himself.

I've always enjoyed the overall attitude of Redguard NPCs, but they definitely need a visual overhaul. I really want to see an Elder Scrolls game (or expansion, wink wink) set in Hammerfell. I really want to see Bethesda explore the older, Arabic elements the Redguards had in their culture during Arena/Daggerfall and how the political climate is among the merchant princes.

Visually, I hope that they have more racial subtleties in their appearance. Just as I'd like to see subtle Celtic influences on the Bretons: more pointed noses and higher cheekbones, as an example, the Redguards should have less plump faces. I wouldn't say they should look African per se as their cultural inspiration is far more mixed than that, though.

Hey, Redguards come out as my third favorite race! I just plan on making a nord first, as I want to be as close to what I perceive as the closest race to the northmen in Warhammer fantasy. Heck, I eventually want to make Cyrus looking character, and kick even more dragon ass!

Also, I want redguards to have brown skin again. If I remember right, they were only red in Oblivion, and it wasn't a very good shade of red. I most definitely prefer the skin color from MW and DF.
Also,

Cyrus is the biggest BA in all of TES. He even made Vivec [NUMMIT] his panties.

They had green lips in Oblivion, too. And you could find Imperial guards who were orange and darker than the Redguards. :P

You know.... "black" people are not actually BLACK. Ever heard of the term "redbone"? Yellowbone?

This is because of extensive racial mixing.

Erm, why would the Redguards be skinny? They're a warrior race, probably one of the best choices for a warrior character in the games by far, besides Nords. Skinny doesn't fit that very well.

Agreed. Redguards, if stats are indications, should be very built. Females less so, due to having 40 str (but still have higher endurance than nord women).

 Do you really want to get into this?

My cousin has reddish skin, like me, and copper hair (blondish brown). We are not in any way part white. You know how I know this? Because we are Africans.

I suppose I could give a long winded explanation as to why what you said is not necessarily the case, but I hope this example suffices.

I think of redguards being more like agile warriors, compared to bulky nords, or orcs. Besides muscles don't translate to pure power. In terms of culture, i think they have one of the coolest in the es universe.

Agreed. Whereas Nords and Orcs are all about bulk, huge muscles, and smashing enemy heads into a fine paste; Redguards are all about stamina, lean-muscle, and running three quarters of a mile before leaping in the air and stabbing a guy in the throat.

I think he means more athletic and quick then like a total beast. Kinda like Achilles, fast and agile, instead of Ajax, slow and huge. I think anyways

It's nearly impossible to make a Redguard like Cyrus in Oblivion

Oh god, I'm blind!

Anyway, I love Redguards. They're my favorite race. It's nice that you played TESA: Redguard and liked it and all, but Stros M'kai is not quite the standard for Redguard behavior. In addition to it being very very long ago in the past, it's mostly old, angry Redguards who were only that way due to highly unusual circumstances. "Crowns" and "Forebears" make no sense in modern day Skyrim.

I don't want "skinny builds" either. If anything, Redguards should be a little more buff. They're one of the best overall warrior races in all of the games.

Sure, I want better Redguards. I want all of the races to be even better. I don't think that's going to be an issue.

If you read the lore description, it even mentions them being wiry and agile.

My eyes! Redguards should be as they were in Redguard.

Yes

DEAD.

If by 'better' you mean much more attractive, then yes. I haven't really seen any attractive male Redguards anywhere (including mods), and the generic females aren't much better (but receive a lot more attention from modders).

But anything else, aren't the Crowns and Forebears united now?

I'm not sure about the latter, where did you read that?

I agree, Redguards shouldn't just be black Imperials, seeing as how they are, in no known way, connected to any of the other Human races by blood or homeland.

Agree

Not to sound racist (because someone will misconstrue it, I'm sure) but I believe Redguards are so underused because white gamers just cannot relate to black characters.

It's a stigma that stems mostly from the MMO genre. Where to many, your online avatar has to relate to you personally or else you're "weird." You see the debate all over MMO forums: "why do guys play as girls?" and it always boils down to those who view their avatar as themselves in the world, and those who take the opportunity to become someone else. With perhaps a smattering of "I like eye candy" here and there.

Those that do not view their character as themselves tend to be all over the place: elves, orcs, cats, three-toed sloths. But those that view their characters as themselves in a new world will of course gravitate towards races that are mostly human-like. With the Elder Scrolls, we have some variety in our humans, but the most noticeable divide between them physically, is that the Redguards are black skinned. Given that the stereotypical "gamer" is a teenage/young advlt white male, it's really no surprise to me to see Redguards go under-appreciated in such a poll.

I do not believe however that Redguards are in any need of a visual or lore overhaul. They have a rich history and a unique style of religious views. And as mentioned, they are statistically a powerful race. Adrenaline Rush has always been one of my favorite racial abilities and my MW Redguard was a total badass. I couldn't get into them in Oblivion though... it looked like Bethesda made their faces crooked to me

Suffice it to say, Redguards are going to be fine, and those that can appreciate them, will use them.

In the latter point of view, most of the "adherents" don't even use Redguards, with Redguards being the least used. What I am saying is that they should be more unique and interesting to draw equal attention as the other races..

I'm the Redguard King and I support this thread! :tops:

I definitely agree Redguards should be more than just black Imperials. There should be enough distinction between all the classes that they could not be subject to such a generic role. Considering Redguard is one of the best warrior races (especially in sword combat), perhaps BGS could somehow give a more in-depth account on that. In general though, I just want all the classes to be more distinct and see and know clear differences between them.

I completely agree, I think that the Redguards really do need to be made to look/be unique this time round, along with all the races.

I'd never play as one though, it's either a Nord or Imperial for me.

Although, there is something to be said for the developers spending more of a focus on the other races, seeing as the poll shows that Redguards are the least played race.

If you go find the in-game picture of the bar with the blonde woman in it you can see a redguard in the background and he actually looks like a black man!

Please edit and uncolor your text, it is very difficult to read.

That being said, I love redguards. They are naturally the best swordsmen (at least traditionally) and my first and favorite characters in both Morrowind and Oblivion were Redguards. I would love to see their lore fleshed out in game.
