skyrim needs to be the most graphically impressive game for

Exactly. Skyrim isn't a six hour long ride, it's a vacation to another country.

Indeed it is, the game world simply looks crazy good compared to Oblivion, and Oblivion had crazy good graphics back then. Don't worry, it will look awesome!

Graphics do matter, but its extremely silly to compare the graphics of a huge open world RPG with that of a linear FPS.

Graphics take up too much space. I'd rather Skyrim be 200 hour game with Oblivion graphics than a 50 hour game with 1st person shooter graphics. I wouldn't really mind if it had Morrowind graphics, but they are rather painful, Oblivion is a happy medium graphics wise. Although if it did have Morrowind graphics, it sure as hell better have Morrowind gameplay.

And Sapphirine, the N64 still is amazing. The reason we bought newer consoles is because: 1, you'd run out of games. And 2, better gameplay. The only game I can think of that has even close to TES's gameplay is Super Mario 64.

When you ask whether Skyrim should be as graphically impressive as possible, theres a whole lot of qualifying questions that need answering first.

Should the graphics be so good that they only work on a minority of machines? Clearly no.
Should the graphics be so good on the pc that it will take significant time and expense to adjust them for the consoles? (or more realistically vice-versa). Again, no.
Should the graphics be so good that Bethesda need to limit the size and scope of the game? Nah.

So - I guess the answer is No. Skyrim should not be the most graphically impressive game of 2011, or even the most graphically impressive game possible. It does need to be better than Oblivion, and improve in a few specific areas like faces and animation.

All of the in-game footage is taken from the 360 and is impressive as it is! On the PC the bad textures will be eradicated and the game will be the best graphic wise.

I think Skyrim will be one of the most graphically impressive games of 2011. The only real competitors that come to mind are Crysis 2, The Witcher 2, Mass Effect 3, Battlefield 3, and possibly some others.

possible every other multiplatform game that doesnt hold their pc version back because of consoles

How is it going to be the most graphically impressive with Crysis 2 hanging around? That's like saying that little Jimmy can beat up Deathskull Fistkiller the Seventh, Lord Viking of the Bleeding Plains and Champion of the Eldritch Gods, because he did some body building.

Pleaaaaaaaase stop this thread THIS is why developers are afraid to spend time on things like animation, THIS is why developers are afraid to spend time on control schemes, menus, etc THINGS THAT ACTUALLY MATTER and here you are complaining about how this guys leather helmet is too blurry in a still shot - games are not still shots they are in motion and when games wow you by their still shots you know time has been taken away from other more important aspects, some of them graphical in nature like animations. Please look at the smiths forging, the wood choppers chopping, look at the game in motion and tell me its not more impressive then oblivion or any other open world RPG currently on the market. Environments look great and thats what TES has always been about.

Also what you're seeing is a limitation of the console hardware. You think they designed that texture in a 256x256 resolution? No, the artist designed it at 1024x1024 and then they had to shrink it to get the performance they needed.

I love how the only game people can throw out there is Crysis 2, which is a linear FPS and not nearly as massive and involved as Skyrim is. Very intelligent, people, nice to see you're using common sense and reason. /sarcasm

the graphics r pretty good but they culd be better if they wanna secure the best graphics of the year. the water really could look better. the rusihing water at least... uhh... the dragons face just a little bit better. more defined textures on the helmet. the thing i noticed different about oblivion and this game so far. is that in teh screen shots everything on oblivion seems to have more depth. like a helmet wasnt an object just with textures on it but it looks as if every contour was actually there and not just texture. the helmet on skyrim looks a little like it doesnt really have ridges on the horns but its just the texture making it look that way but its not even good enough to be too convincing. i mean its really minor weakpoints im seeing. cuz as a whole its good but even in oblivion some stuff got looked over. like Umbra on oblivion just looked like trash. so maybe its just that helmet and everything else will be stunning. the onlhy thing to truly bother me was when i saw those dang trees and tufts of grass...that actually bothered me cuz it didnt really look good. oblivions looked better. less stuff but better. the one in skyrim looked cluttered. but on the other note the wolves look a crap load better. but its not even done so maybe they'll add some extra layers of texures. clean a few things up. and it'll look really great upon realease.
