so if skyrim is not great then what game is. cause i want to

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 2:07 pm

i am new to the whole scrolls games. i bought the game when it got released and have not stopped playing it and i love everything about it. i've never played a game where you can kill something or place something down then come back days later and the dead body of the object you put down is still there if the bandits haven't got there first. you meet people or complete quest for them and when you meet then again days later they remember who you are and what you did for them. i love not being tied to a quest or dungeon i can just leave whenever i want without completing what i have to do. i love the mixed combat and also the companions that follow you and help you out.

but these are only a small point of what im getting at. what i dont understand is why so many people don't like skyrim and all that it has to offer. why are texture pops and glitches in a game so vast such a big deal to so many. and if its not the best game then what is the best game of this type cause i want to play a game that is bigger and better than skyrim. so please fill me in.

It all comes down to personal preference. I, personally, think Skyrim is GOTY. Though i have a long history with The Elder Scrolls.

Fallout: New Vegas is the same type, and better; albeit set in a completely different era.

..Not that this takes away from the fact that Skyrim is a good game.

Some people don't like non-linear open ended games, they prefer games that don't let them have any choice and always tell them exactly what to do.

Skyrim is a very big game, It's easy to see why it might overwhelm some people who aren't used to playing games like this.

That was a fun game, but it is not comparable to Skyrim in scope and depth if you ask me.

STALKER

any STALKER game

now thats a game where you feel involved which can promote an rpg feel.

well saying that they also jumped on the console wagon of greed,so STALKER 2 isnt high on my list of buys,as i fully expect that to have been butchered tio fit into a matchbox.
still,we have the previous games to play when we feel the urge.

back then little did we know games devs would even consider butchering thier work to pander to the console kids.
it was even suggested a few times and the scorn and derision was plenty,
"no way" they shouted,
"you are a fool to think an artist would dump on thier pride" was another rally cry.

well here we are.

now for my next prediction :
they really like the way they can screw money out of gamers by first coralling them and then bleeding them.
so......
steam will become a pay to play site where you HAVE to register and pay to play single player games and the game WILL NOT run offline.
and yet another barrier will be between the gamer and the developer.

.

WE ARE ALL DOOMED !!!!!!!! ;)

Hah, yes :)

Although, isn't that what the dungeons are for? ;)

Baldur's Gate 2 remains the greatest game of all time, for me at least.

well after you've done the millionth "fetch" quest in in all reality, they are, all the same in scope and depth, if you catch my drift. ;D

Skyrim, really hasn't brought anything new, to the table, for me. I guess one can call it burnout, if one wishes.

If you haven't played Fallout 1 and 2 by now, it's very unlikely to please you; they're too dated to be comparable to Skyrim unless you're a LARPer or pen and paper RPG player imo, where stats and such matter more than actual gameplay and combat.

Here is a rule I live by - live, experience, enjoy.

I like trying new things in order to see if I like them. If I do I will probably keep doing therm. If you love everything about Skyrim keep playing it and enjoying it, and don't let naysayers on the internet make you doubt whether you actually are enjoying it.

If you weren't enjoying it probably best not to waste time on it.

Fact is some people really enjoy complaining on the internet. If these forums had been around years ago I think people would have had these same threads regarding Morrowind and Daggerfall. Some people don't like certain types of games, but they will play them anyway and then complain. Some people do like certain types of games, but only a certain way, and will complain if a certain type of game isn't presented a certain type of way etc.

I think the best question to ask is - I love everything about Skyrim, what are some other games as good or better? You will get some good answers some bad answer and some answers from people being bitter and grumpy which still have the potential to be good or bad.

I totally agree, as long as the role you're playing is an angry child with a microphone, who knows not the value of money.

The only recent RPG I would recommend is The Witcher 2. Great game with something like 41 paths to finish the game. Your decisions in the game really can affect later stages.
I found the combat enjoyable enough and with plenty of advlt humour/dialogue, interesting characters, a great storyline and drop dead graphics on Ultra settings, it`s a great way to while away some time.

I do agree that Skyrim is a great game in it`s own right, it has it`s flaws like every other game, but it`s still heaps of fun. The only other games that have me at 200 hours in, would be past TES games.
I wonder if the people who are enjoying the game the most, are more the types that don`t compare Skyrim to other games, or more so, past TES games...

While I'd love to say Fallout, Fallout 2, Baldur's Gate 1&2, Planescape: Torment, Arcanum, and maybe even Bloodlines.

I'd say if he's mostly a new generation gamer that New Vegas is the best game Bethesda has ever had their hand in of the post Morrowind-era. Yes, New Vegas, so what? :P

There's a difference between not liking Skyrim and being disappointed that the game is not what could've been, on multiple levels.
I keep bringing Tetris as a comparison in that Tetris was/is very entertaining to play, and people play(ed) Tetris for hours and hours, yet you did the exact same thing over and over again.

As for what's the best game of its type, well, you need to define its "type". Going by the "role playing" tag, and defining role playing as my character's decisions playing a role in how the story is told, and not just having "yes" or "no" options which in the great scheme of the game world are/seem inconsequential, I'd suggest to you Witcher (any of the 2).

Children in Africa think a bread each day is good enough.

Children in USA think three meals each day with fish and meat aren't good enough.

It all depends what you have experienced before.

You think the game is so great because you've never played this kind of game before. Just like when someone who's been living in rural area for half of his life went to a big city, he'll just "woah".

But to others who have played a lot, they may not think it as so great because they've seen a lot.
