Skyrim - Not a RPG anymore

Post » Wed Dec 07, 2011 2:02 am

Hi folks,

i want to give you some of my thoughts about this game:

Skyrim is only a shdow of the parts before in the RPG sector. Dont get me wrong, its funny and interesting but i miss the hardcoe RPG-elements like i
had in Arena, Daggefall or Morrowind before. I think your biggest problem is your try make it compatible to consoles. WHY for gods sake !?!?!
I want a RPG with more than 3 stats. I want my skills bounds to more than 3 stats. And why in hell have you completly killed some armor parts?
Where are the pauldorns, greaves (or pants) and the other missing parts?!
Making a RPG simple enough to make it playable for all CCPs (Console Couch Potatoes) makes me sad....
And it makes this game more like an Action-Adventure than a RPG.

I hope you will change back to RPG in future parts of this great gameline.

Considering how many units sold (their biggest selling title yet) fat chance. If anything, it will be catered even more to the COD players in the next iteration.

If the amount of stats and armor pieces is the thing that makes a RPG then you are in the wrong place. I'd rather enjoy the game than worry about the amount of skills it haves. That console bashing is also not needed, it affects in skyrim are only bad UI and graphics, it has nothing to do with these "RPG elements" you are talking about

Good example for an RPG are the original 2 Fallouts and maybe even New Vegas, TES has never been able to be at the same level of RPG as those games.

oh look another console hating thread. Consoles are the reason why Morrowind and Dragon Age Origins for consoles were dumbed down /sarcasm

Your gonna have to reword your post, because, people can happily imagine whatever they want in the game, even when it doesn effect the game, at all. so,,,is it an RPG? yeah like every other game, COD is an RPG for example (people will have you believe this). so yeah this thread will not go well.

I'm starting to think that gratuitous use of the phrase "RPG elements" should be punishable by having to participate in the fish-slapping dance.

[censored].

It's still an RPG. It may be different, but changes don't translate to no longer being an RPG. This whole damned argument is a lot like everybody complaining about Minecraft becoming an RPG on the MC Forums. It lacks a strong basis, is a matter of opinion, and is completely pointless.

It doesn't matter what genre Skyrim is in. It's Skyrim, a massive, open-world game that can give you hundreds, if not thousands, of hours of play-time. If that doesn't automatically make it one of the best, if not the best, game of the decade, nothing does.

I think Elder Scrolls series has always been more of an open world exploration hack and slash than a pure RPG. Even Morrowind had that vibe. I'm fine with that. Baldur's Gate and the like will always be more of an RPG than the Elder Scrolls.

RPG or not, it's still a great game and a great series.

What replaces it will be the same. Almost every single console FPS is identical in gameplay, with just different skins.

How does choosing a pauldron make for better role-playing? Is my hero renowned across the land for his tasteful blending of dwemer and daedric fashions or something?

"That Halthor, his foes fear him because his outfit really makes a statement"

yay more console bashing....

GET OVER IT

consoles are where the money is at

they are easily accessible by the general consumer

unlike PC's where you have to upgrade annually

Bethesda is a business don't forget that..they want to make money

DAY

I just want to see if you'll quote me and post "NIGHT"

edit~

And what stops the player from playing a character that pays attention to fashion in that case exactly? the fact that a game mechanic is missing that doesn;t lead the player to the conclusion? I ask because now we are talking about how imaginative a player is and that's a thing that has no solution

The only thing I have a problem with is the lack of emphasis on letting the player explore on their own without any outside aid. We can look toward the quest compass for that.

Also, very good point Vault-Boy. Apparently some people believe an RPG is nothing more than a Microsoft Excel stat simulator. lol, hardcoe RPG STAT SORTING.

I agree with the TC, but I think at the end of the day the newer generation of gamers do not like some RPG elements, and so Bethesda has to adapt and streamline the content to appeal to a larger crowd.

I mean in another forum there are people complaining about a weight limit for your inventory, and suggesting they get rid of it in the next game. It makes me sad.

English isn't your first language, and you are without a doubt a PC elitist. These two factors make your opinion invalid.

I am a console user and am not happy with the removal of armor slots and the narrowing down to three stats. Also, stats and skills does not an RPG make.
