Skyrim not using NVIDIA card - Have tried a lot of solutions

Post » Thu Jul 17, 2014 1:05 pm

Hi

So I have the infamous issue with Skyrim not detecting and using NVIDIA card (GT 640M). I know this for a fact not just because it doesn't show NVIDIA card in the graphic adapter box but I have also use GPU-Z and confirm that there is no usage of this dedicated graphic card when running Skyrim.

I'm using Optimus technology (forced to). But I did have sporadic periods of Skyrim using the correct card and the game played really well.

Here is what I have done:

1. Update my drivers to the latest versions.

2. Use NVIDIA control panel to add the TESV.exe as well as the launcher and the skse_loader to the list of programs require NVIDIA card

3. Right click and choose explicitly the NVDIA card when launching.

4. Freaking out and gettting frustrated for hours.

Hope someone can help me with this, I know it is a really old issue but I am a little desperate now. Thanks

Last time this happened to me the fix was to reinstall the drivers.

Thank you!

By reinstalling do you mean uninstall the NVIDIA dirver and reinstall it alone. Or the integrated graphic card driver as well?

Thing is I have tried this once and it seemed to work for few days but then it got screwed again so I will try it if nothing else works but I want a more permanent solution, which may not exist.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried this, together with using GPU-Z and both indicate that there is no NVIDIA GPU activity while playing Skyrim. I have tried to tweak the graphic setting so that it must relies on NVIDIA card instead of integrated card but no difference made. Any idea why?

Although I have not tried reinstalling the dricer. Will try and update this.

EDIT: No changes happen after reinstallation

Reinstalling the Nvidia driver should be the first thing you try.

Ok I have tried to unistall it through control panel and reinstall from a new download from nvidia website. The GPU is still not used.
