There are a lot of factors that make this series so great, and a developed multiplayer option isn't one of them...nor should it be. Lets forget about that whole "multiplayer" argument for now though. Basically it comes down to this, currently while playing Skyrim I find myself experiencing the same crisis that befell me when I played Oblivion and Morrowind.
There is nothing left for me to do.
Having done all the major quest lines, and probably 90% of all the side quests I find myself turning the game on, and sprinting through Whiterun to see how long it takes for my stamina bar to deplete. In addition the game really offers no challenge (I played through on masters), BUT that is another issue and I think the detail and effort put into this game more than makes up for that flaw. I started a second character but am finding it almost impossible to go through the entire process over again.
So here I am, in full daedric armor, essentially done with every quest and explored every inch of the map bare a few crevices here and there. Skyrim is amazing, but I feel that I am hearing myself say Skyrim "was" amazing more often, because I think I am done.
The problem for me is, I don't want to be done.
Now, based on experience from previous RPG's I have played I can say that what kept me sticking around and immersed in the game was an online component. Yea half of you probably just twitched or spazzed out but I am going on regardless. Let me make something clear. I am not advocating that skyrim be turned into an MMO type of game. It simply wouldn't work. It isn't designed to run like that. There are obvious imbalances, exploits, the list goes on.
Not to mention, adding a developed multiplayer option may simply end up taking away from the traditional feel the elder scroll series is known for.
I ask (and please when and if you respond give me a good reason), what would be the harm in adding an online component that "felt" online, but only in a limited sense. Let me give you an example.
Suppose there is an "Games master." You talk to him, in your own game and he gives you 3 different "competitive games" to choose from. Lets say one is a dungeon race. You, and some random player will get assigned your own dungeon to "clear" in your own game. You both will get teleported to the same dungeon and be given the same arena equipment/gear and must get to the end first to receive a special award.
Another game option may be called "assassin." You are given clues to the location and appearance of someone you need to kill in your game. First person that kills him wins.
The third game may seem more radical, but it might offer a head to head combat mode. To equalize any imbalances, you would be forced to wear preset gear, and only have options to certain spells/abilities/perks while in the arena.
What I want is for Skyrim to retain its single player experience. I don't want any "real" multiplayer in the game, but I do want some type of online component.
Please, explain to me why you think it should or should not have this without saying "skyrim is a single player game."
Thank you,
