Skyrim NPC Relationships: Friendships, Romance, Marriage, Di

Post » Wed Jul 06, 2011 8:11 pm

I think there must be a sequence of tasks of some kind, and some kind of flirting process must be necessary to proceed from "friendship" to "romance." I also can't imagine any potential romance partner would immediately be marriageable, there most likely will be a further process to progress from "romance" to betrothal.

That all sounds rather bothersome. What happened to just throwing the prospective spouse over the back of your horse? Or love at first rescue-from-monsters?

Really, heroes nowadays... no sense of adventure...

For those of you that have some idea what kind of character you plan to play for your first playthrough, what sort of wife or romance interest will you pursue?

Do you want a woman/man who has a dangerous profession, like a thief or an adventurer, or someone like a tavern wench?

or is it better to have "friends" in high places?

Im gonna attempt everything on that poll just to see how the feature works and what happens... probably save my game before I do some of that stuff though so I can reload if things get crazy (don't want the wife hiring dark brotherhood on my ass for flirting with someone lol)

One of the most interesting things for me about the new relationships is companionship. In Oblivion we had to become master of a guild to recruit a companion and it was always set ones. Now from the looks of what Bethesda are saying, most NPCs can be recruited if you get friendly enough with them. I hope if this is true they are killable though. It would be awesome to spend ages befriending an NPC you like, having them adventure with you and then dying during a hard fight and avenging their death. Plus then we could just go get a new one :D

LOL that would be awesome, especially if you are in the DB. "You're newest contract is to assassinate yourself. Return here when the deed is done."

I plan to build up as many friendships as I can, so, when/if things get bad, I can know some people have my back. Not interested in pursuing marriage, but maybe a bit of romance here and there.

I seem to recall you can also simply hire people to accompany you, if you have enough gold.

Will everyone tend to pursue friendships/romance/marriage with NPCs who are tough, hardened adventurers, thieves, mages, warriors, archers, etc?

Or will you go for the bonny lass who serves pints at the local watering hole, or the baker's fair daughter?

Or would you be more interested in the Jarl's widow, or the general of the Rebel army, perhaps?

I hope for all of these and even more variations. I also hope that the mechanic doesn't end at marriage and move in. I'd like other NPC's to notice the change for starters, and if the spouse is the non-adventuring type I'd like to see that they still have lives and interact with the world. Instead of disappearing into my house and never seeing the light of day again, I'd like to see them go out to the market or the tavern, interact with other NPC's, friends and such. Maybe even (depending on the spouses personality, disposition, character archetype, etc.) have them get into a little bit of trouble themselves. Imagine having to bust your spouse out of jail for theft and bar-brawls and such, or rescuing them from kidnappers or bandits or something.

If your character is a warrior, would you prefer a wife who is another warrior, or someone very different, like a mage or a thief?

Well, not so much in Oblivion, but in Fallout 3 I always wanted to have friendships/marriages with people so hopefully this works out well. I don't want my wife to leave if I don't show up for a while. And if I decide not to use it, I don't want them to make me use it.

His statement also confirms housing which was something I had been wondering about.

Also, is there any word on gay marriages? Because I'm a dude who always play as female characters and marrying a dude (in the game) would just be wierd O_o

If i was a mainly melee character then i want my companions to be a mage or archer so they dont get in my way

But i'll probably be playing as a mage and would want another ranged companion so i dont accidentally hit them with a fireball

My Male Nord will marry a middle class young Breton Women, why? He finds Breton females attractive :hubbahubba:

hmm I think I'll try my shout at the head of a guild or something along the lines of pretty or has silly power for my breton. (main person so most like me)
The second playthrough will be a nord, who will go for the small wood elves type, but is often bad at chatting with anything else other than her fists. (Curse her drinking problems!)
My lizard pladin will go for a classic save the princess kinda love by saving her from some human. (Just like beauty and the beast... well the one I watch of it)
On the other hand my dummer ranger and will prefer the whole trying to "jump the skin" of every attract dummer he can find. (male or female =3)

LOL I feel exactly the same way - I imagine there must be more of us...."Brosbians"

although with the really cool revamped character designs I'm also considering playing a male character for perhaps the very first time in a TES game. In either case I would still pursue romance with a female NPC.

I just do it for laughs :D

In every Bethesda game, I will replay the game until I have exhausted every single way of playing it.

I feal slightly proud of myself for knowing that Debela(or her skyrim-name equivelent) is, after all, the goddess of love. if i get to chose a chapple, there would be nice. If I can chose anywhere? the top of the thorough of the world. Im sure the view is beautiful, and id invite all the local dragons to the bachelors party.

Dibella is the goddess of beauty. Mara is the goddess of love.

I used to be in favor of romance options, but marriage is so much more and requires so much development time and dedication to produce a good result, I'm not really happy about this. It will eventually look like Harvest Moon where your wife moves into your house and spawns a baby after a while. It will just feel awkward.

I hope not.

yes, in previous TES games, I usually just slept at inns or the mage's guild.

Now there is a much more interesting reason to buy a house

A lot of people have complained about Fable or mentioned they are worried about similarities to Fable.

I've never played Fable - can you explain what it is that you are worried about?

Youtube it. You will cry at the utter stupidity you see.
