Skyrim vs. Oblivion: An anolysis

Firstly congrats for writing one of the rare logical, coherent and unbiased reviews. We need more of these.

The only thing I completly disagree with is the Thieves Guild: Skyrim's version lacked background and plot coherency. Being aproached to join the thieves guild is awkward, the frameup is poorly done especially since when the PC comits a crime can just pay a fine. The meadery plot is plain stupid for both the "pay a fine- get out of jail" reason, for how concerned Maven is for something that failed in a pathetic way and for how ridiculous the meadery plot was. The Mercer- Karliah scene is also very bad, she shoots the player instead of shooting Mercer, convincing you and then killing him afterwards and Mercer seems so impressed with the whole plot. Then after a pathetic reconciliation scene Karliah establishes herself as Skyrim's biggest idiot since it took her 25 years to come up with the miserable meadplot, make one poisoned arrow and fail to read Gaullus's diary and while things start looking upwards with the translation quest the diary paints Gallus as an incompetent- he was the guild master, if he suspected Mercer of stealing from the guild he should have done something about it. But when you bring the evidence to the rest of the thieves things get really bad not only do they instantly accept the translated text as evidence (a text that could have been written by anyone) but they haven't realised that Mercer has been stealing from the guild for years and while they complain about hard times they are shocked that they don't find the treasures of Tamriel in that vault. Then you have the whole Nightgale cult where you have to swear your soul to Nocturnal despite not recieving anything in return. The end bit is slightly decent but each and every one of the characters involved in the quest including the player comes out as fools.

Did anyone else feel like there was hardly ANY theft in the Primary Guild Quests...?
