My thought on the matter

Vanilla Skyrim > vanilla Oblivion
Vanilla Skyrim < modded Oblivion
Vanilla Skyrim > vanilla Morrowind
Vanilla Skyrim < modded Morrowind
Vanilla Oblivion > vanilla Morrowind
Vanilla Oblivion < modded Morrowind
Modded Oblivion > vanilla Morrowind
Modded Oblivion < modded Morrowind

Honestly, the only thing I was concerned about was the leveling system. After playing the game I have grown to appreciate the new leveling system and think it's better than Oblivion's. (thank god no more runing in place and jumping for hours!)

I like fancy graphics too. Just don't think theyre the be all and end all.

Did anyone suggest they were?

I'm really reluctant to comment on this. But I really want to say that I'm inclined to not disagree with almost all of the above. Except maybe the part about modded Morrowind being better than Modded Oblivion -- because modded Oblivion can be really fantastic depending on the mods.

Look, I've really been interested in playing Morrowind. My first TES was Oblivion and the experience blew me away. Before Skyrim came out I downloaded Daggerfall out of curiosity and to see TES at its roots. Oh my gosh... so overwhelming and horribly hideous I couldn't go for more than a half hour without a murderous headache. Before that, at a very quaint game store in a town nearby I had a chance to actually open up Morrowind and pop it in an Xbox, but I only got a minute past the class creation and stuff before I had to go.

I don't doubt Morrowind was amazing at its time. But all the Morrowind die-hards and elitists out there who say it is superior to Skyrim only make me have less of a desire to try it. Why bother going back to that time? I just see so much stubbornness and angst from the Morrowind people that it really turns me off. If you will always have that special Morrowind place in your heart, I completely understand. For me, I loved the game Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast. I liked in many ways its sequel JK3: Jedi Academy more. If, 10 years later from JK2, a JK4 came out, I would probably love it (unless they somehow botched it, as can happen), but I would still have that special love for the predecessor. Some sequels are so much better I forget the old ones, but that is rarer.

Morrowind was a great game. Oblivion was a great game. Skyrim is a great game.

Can't we all hold hands and smile, and share in the wonder that is the magic of The Elder Scrolls? :hugs:
