Skyrim vs. Oblivion

Just curious with yet another poll. I believe they did Skyrim better. What has your experience been? Focus on your enjoyment and immersion rather than nitpicky things.

With each game they make Bethesda improve upon the previous model.

Though it may cause some people to tear their clothes and pluck out their beards, "Oblivion" was an improvement on "Morrowind" just like "Skyrim" is an improvement on "Oblivion".

For many people "Morrowind" is their defining experience of The Elder Scrolls though so you can see why so many people are fixated on this.

I was an avid fan of Oblivion, but I must say Skyrim is much better. That is to be expected though, but I think Skyrim is better in more ways than just upgrading on Oblivion. However, Oblivion Gates were much more fun than dragon fights.

I like Oblivion better. They really stripped this game down to appeal to people who have little to no attention span.

I would rate Oblivion as the worst TES experience ever...

Unfortunately, I've played Redguard and Battlespire.

Skyrim by miles. It did pretty much everything better.

One thing I feel could be borrowed from Oblivion though and that is the amount of different flowers to pick. It really bugged me that when I ran around Whiterun Hold all I could find were Mountain Flowers, Tundra Cotton and Lavendar, 3 types of plants for one big part of the map feels lacking.

Sadly Bethesda also failed at fixing a few things:
- Quest markers, they were permanently enabled for Oblivion. Bethesda fixed this just fine, however no directions are given ingame (unlike Oblivion) so it's pretty damn useless if you want to figure out locations yourself.
- NPC greetings. Bethesda went for a unique greeting per NPC, but I feel those are more annoying than Oblivion's. But atleast there's no more talk about Mudcrabs.

While there are many differences, they're pretty much the same. Skyrim, however, is more like Bethesda's Fallout than it is like Oblivion, but I still can't shake the feeling I've played this game before.

Skyrim. Despite all the shortcomings, I have less problems running Skyrim. Granted, the UI is even worse than Oblivion, but Skyrim has a certain mood, where Oblivion was just generic.
I'm a bit sad that they left some things out that I felt were well done in Oblivion (being able to wear two rings, having stats like Strength, Dexterity etc, having leg armor and chest armor, spell making etc) ... but still, I enjoy Skyrim more.

Skyrim. In Oblivion everyone except Khajits and Argonians look like they were inbred because there eyes was about half an eye apart....and don't get me started on Wood Elves. Oblivion could never hold my attention long because the story writing was pretty poor in many cases....although the lore was good. The voice acting in many cases was atrocious, btw, followed by mediocre to poor dialogue in many cases.

Also the leveling system in Skyrim is perfect. I hope they ditch the old Fallout system and use this leveling system for the next fallout games. Attributes are stupid and can make you OP or define your character too early on.

If you want to be good at something, practice it, don't just smack a bunch of enemies and then all of a sudden your good at bartering because you put points into it like in Fallout. This leveling system is great because if you want to advance beyond the higher levels, you gotta try new things, and trying new things helps you understand the world your in better.

Skyrim.

Everything except a few lone things separate Oblivion form Skyrim as a lesser game.

The two things Oblivion did better were as follow:
-Custom Spellcasting
-Beaches

Really the first one is the only one that matters.

Edit: Attributes are kind of missed as well.

You still have attributes you know, instead of selecting something on a screen, you find a stone and decide if it works for you....which is great because if I feel like wearing heavy armor I take the steed stone, if I wear light armor I take the lover stone.

Fixed attributes are stupid and unnessecary, imo.

Skyrim looks and feels better than Oblivion, unfortunately it is also shallower, shorter, and the quests more dull. Oblivion gets my vote.

Skyrim has a more realistically gritty atmosphere in some regards, but Oblivion has the edge for me. Can't quite put my finger on it, which I guess is often the case with subjective matters.

Oblivion
Cons:
Graphics: Face it the Graphics were terrible.
Gameplay: At times the Gameplay was tedius and slow, but apart from the spots it was okay.
Sidequests: NOT ENOUGH!

Pros:
Main Questline: Alot more imersive and epic.
Factions: There were alot more and 3/4 of them were joinable.
Faction Quests: They were longer and more challenging as you progressed.
Enemies: They leveled with you and they had more veriety

Skyrim:
Cons:
Factions: Not enough of them, you can only join 6!
Main Questline: It was tedius and short.
Enemies: There is not much veriety and they don't level with you.
Faction Questlines: Most were too short.

Pros:
Graphics: They are amazing and rather fresh, unless you get to close.
Theme: The theme of the land and the game is really good.
Gameplay: It's alot better and improved from Oblivion
Duel Wielding: Nuff said.
Perks: I will admit that some are worthless and plain retarted
Scenery: Ahh, so beutiful.
Roleplay: you can roleplay anyhting you want.

i hate the nitpicking at oblivion, it was a great game, but skyrim takes it to a whole new level the fixed a lot of the issues that were present in oblivion.
the best part about skyrim though is i can see so much they can easily improve on for next games so there is always hope of new stuff without breaking the series it also seems that bethesda knows where their market is and doesnt flip the game around to accommodate people who hate RPGs in the first place ( fable 2 and 3 are examples of what could have been good games)

Oblivion

I guess this is one of those subjective things: just the other day I was commenting how well the graphics stand up even five+ years on, and overall I prefer the saturated colours to Skyrim's rather monochromatic appearance; though I will agree that Skyrim's textures often look better "out of the box" and that some of its effects are nice.

I've heard people say similar things about other games that look very similar to Oblivion, presumably using a similar generation of the Gamebryo engine, such as Ego Draconis and Gothic III, in that they don't look great, but likewise I love the way they look. I guess just one of those matters of taste.

With everything, everytime I got a new set of armor it just felt like it meant something. Maybe because it was harder to get I felt like I had a unique character. With skyrim it feels like choose a, b or c. I liked the options and variety more than anything.

Skyrim vs Oblivion? Skyrim.

Skyrim vs Morrowind? Disregarding text based dialogue, graphics, combat and animations definitely Morrowind.
