Skyrim SE Overpriced or Worth it?

Post » Mon Oct 03, 2016 7:19 pm

I really want to try SSE but I've already bought Skyrim digitally and payed full price plus DLC twice once on my 360 and again my ps3. I thought maybe the ps3 version would run better. So I've already spent well over $100 on Skyrim and now I'm expected to pay $60 more for a game that never really ran very well on either system? Probably not going to happen, as much as I want to play Skyrim with mods, haven't used a mod since diablo 2. I just don't see me paying for this game again, not at full price.

Yes I know that nobody made me buy it a second time for ps3 but it ran pretty bad on my 360 always freezing, which I later found out was bug. Anyway, more then likely I'll pass on Skyrim SE, which svcks cause it's one of my favorite games of all time.

This is a question everybody has to answer for themselves. For me, it would be worth it. Bethesda's games, and the Elder Scrolls series in particular, are almost the only games that hold any interest for me. Over the years I've purchased six copies of Morrowind and five copies of Oblivion. So purchasing a second copy of Skyrim would be nothing to me. But someone else may feel differently. They may feel that a second copy is not worth the money. It's up to each of us to decide whether the remastered edition is overpriced.

For me it will be $80CAD for Xbox One version and it is well worth it for me. I will also get the free PC Version since I have all the DLC. I would even pay $300CAD or more for it since Bethesda's games I know I will get many hundreds of hours if not many thousands of hours even without mods. Like Pseron Wyrd stated each of us will have to decide if the game is worth it or not.

If you want to play mods then you will want to get it for either the PC or Xbox One since mods have been cancelled for the PS4. If you have a half decent PC you might be able to get a good deal for Legendary version of Skyrim and then you will get the game for free and the PC is the best platform for the PC.

P.S. I have also a long history with playing mods on Diablo II mostly Zy-El and Eastern Sun

One thing I don't understand is my digital copies for both ps3 and 360 with all DLC, how is that any different then owning it for PC? Other then the fact that it's on consoles instead. I think that's the reason I'm unwilling to spend the money. Digital copies almost always cost full price, even when the disks on sale. So I spend tons buying the game plus the DLC same as people on PC yet they get the game free and I don't even get a discount? Seems totally unfair, I didn't buy fallout 4 and I will think twice about buying games from companies that treat me so unfairly.

I'll probably skip getting Dishonored 2 as well.

I'm getting it for free on pc; but the only way I would pay 60 for a remastered edition with no additional content would be if it came in a special physical box with some collector's goodies like artbook, lorebook, cloth map, coin etc. For such a basic retail edition I would pay maximum 15, or maybe 20 for the steelbook edition.

I havent't been on here for some time so excuse me if I am out of step...

Did Bethesda announce a price for the Special Edition of Skyrim of 60 U.S. dollars? When Bethsda announced the special edition, I thought it would be lower then 60 and more like 20 or 30 at most.

Either way I will be purchasing the Special Edition for my xbox one when when it comes out.

I get the frustration of having to fork over more money for essentially the same game you already paid for especially if it is full price. That seems a bit much I agree. The logic being that just like a PC user, I too bought a copy of Skyrim and deserve to not have to pay for it again. I understand this logic. However I believe Bethesda's logic behind this is that Xbox users are getting new things added to the game with mods and updated graphics. So that justifies the price for xbox one. PC users from what I understand are not getting much that they don't already have. Now with PS4 that is another story.

I am pretty die hard about Skyrim so if its 60 dollars I have no problem paying it.

I have no problem with it. I spent well over sixty bucks on Morrowind and Oblivion with all the versons on PC and console, so paying sixty smackers on a new version of another Bethesda game is no issue with me.

I will have to buy the XB1 just to play SSE.....so for me the cost is more like 350 bucks !

Things being tight for the foreseeable...that cost is going to hurt.....a lot

But

It is a measure of how I feel about Skyrim

That

It is a cost I am HAPPY to pay for the ONLY game I want. Once loaded, that disk NEVER comes out.....period.

Yeah...I do feel a bit pissy about how the freebies are being handed out to Beths favs....and I do feel irked on behalf of the stuffed PS4 users (like my kid) who get a very raw deal....and the apparant 'full price' expectation which is frankly a damn nerve.

But the bottom line is.....it is what it is

No amount of griping is gonna change the price of fish

And..to quote Bogey...."What you and I think don't amount to a hill of beans in this world"

With so many good games either coming out or out recently, I just can't spend 60 more on a game I already own 2 times over. The mods do make it tempting because my pc's a dinosaur but I passed on fallout 4 and I'll be able to pass on this. I just wish the around $120-150 I already spent on Skyrim counted for something.

@ Rick.

If you get yourself an xbox one you might want to consider getting a downloaded copy off the xbox live store. I bought an xbox one last January and I have finally decided to not buy physical media for the console because its just far to convenient to have it downloaded and stored on the hard drive. Yes I have finally made that decision gone are the ways of old for me having stacks of DVD games in shoeboxes.

I still use my xbox 360 mainly because of Skyrim, but the jump to xbox one is a pretty good deal now that the prices have come down. If you can wait another year or so a new much more powerful version of the xbox one will be out but may cost a bit more most likely.

Or you could get yourself a gaming PC.

This is kinda up to you. I too have bought the game a few times, currently have a copy on my PS3 as well as a copy on the 360. But I love this game. I am anxious to play a more updated version. As soon as I could buy it on the xbox one for digital download, I did. Same with getting the strategy guide. I will easily play the game again. It is probably my favorite RPG followed with the Witcher 3. I have no problems getting a remastered version and was thrilled they did it. But I love the game so...

I have bought this game more than once. I have it on pc and on my ps3.. I prefer the console. I only miss two mods. Vibrant and fixed facial n maps.

As far as buying it again.. I don't know. The only thing upgraded is graphics.. Only graphics.. No bug fixes , no new dlc.. nothing but graphics.. That and for the console users a change from 3 -4 or 360 - 1

I don't know.. They aren't showing anything more than the short video they started with.. I don't think they will either.

I'm considering but.. I already have two copies.. Unless they fixed the face n maps.. Which I highly doubt..

It's a high price for a few new textures..

@ Glowdust

Thanks yeah, I think there's a Xbox Scorpio or something in the pipeline. I am a kind of materialistic guy with games, I like to own the disc and box...then I know I have it forever no matter what happens to the parent company or software supplier. Imagine some dark day you need to get the game re-downloaded only to find a merger or liquidation has taken the source off line for good, I don't trust any of 'em.

PC....ah one day eh!

Is it possible to think that it's over priced and worth it? I believe paying the same price as a new release for a 5 year old game that I've already put a lot of hours into is a bit absurd. That said, I was willing to spend the money on the PS4 version until they announced no mods. Now I'm contenting myself with the free PC version.

there's a slight overprice of the product, if compared with what's really worth: 40$ of overpricing.

Just wait a few months and the price will come down. The $60 at release price is for the people who have been chomping at the bit for a Skyrim remaster on the next gen consoles. There have been numerous threads over the past few years saying people would happily pay full price for a remaster. Wait a few months after the release the price will drop significantly.

I'm mainly a pc gamer but feel the same way with Steam, that's why I prefer GOG. On console I always buy the physical copy.

If Skyrim became available on GoG, I'd probably pay full price just to not have to deal with Steam. I've never had a bad experience with Steam but I don't like the way it makes you feel like you are only renting your game. I'd rather own it so I know I can keep playing as long as I want regardless of what happens with third party websites.

Yeah, I'm in no rush to play it. Mafia 3 coming out soon plus I have a huge backlog. I'll pick it up for sure when its in the 20-25$ range. I just wish they would do like minecraft did. If you owned it on 360 it cost 5 bucks on xbox one. I'd be willing to do 20-25 easy and be happy.

Is it worth it? Let's see. Bought 2 copies of Arena. First time it was on floppy discs second time I think it was on CD the collector's edition. Daggerfall I bought once. Battlespire bought once never played.

Morrowind. Oh boy how do I start. I bought about 8 copies of Morrowind. Some brand new, but some previously used. My 3 year old son at the time loved playing "daddy's" game. So when I was at work and he wanted to play he put the disc in the xbox. So yeah they got scratched up. Then when Morrowind came out with the 2 expansion packs, I bought it again. Then that game got scratched up, so bought another copy. Then I bought the PC verison.

Fallout 3. Bought about 5 or so copies as well. After the first copy, the rest were bought used.

Then Skyrim came out. Bought one copy thank god because my son grew up and was more carefull. That said I still bought the Steam version so bought 2 copies.

Fallout 4, bought it online off xbox store so only need to buy it once. :)

So yes I find it worth it. I will also be buying Skyrim Special Edition as well for the Xbox One even though I have it on Steam and will get the SSE for free on PC as well. I just love playing on my Xbox One and on my TV.

So yes it is worth it for ME. :)

So some people have issues with buying it again? I find this so illogical. People will spend $200 a night on booze at a bar. Or buy cigarettes over and over again. To me that is money wasted. You get more enjoyment from Skyrim for a longer period of time.

So let's say $200 a night at the bar. That is what a few hours? So let's say 4 hours. That is $50 an hour for a good fun time and that is it. Skyrim gave us what 1000s if not 1000s of hours. That is what not even 6 cents an hour for fun.

So we have to pay it again. PC players get it for free. So what. Why are we so entitled? Want SSE for free? Get in on PC. Want to play SSE not on PC? Then we have to pay for it. We are not owed anything.

I am harsh on Bethesda, but even I can see why we have to pay for it again. Yes it svcks we have to pay full price. I have to pay $80 and that is not even including taxes so I will have to pay almost $90. And if I can afford it and find a copy I will even buy the Collector's Edition so will be buying the book 3 times even when I can get the info free on these forums.

I just laugh when people say they shouldn't have to pay for it again. Don't want to pay, then don't. I am sure those people will be flushing that $60 or $80 or what ever it costs in their region down the toilet for other products that will have less worth in our eyes.

So in the end, is it worth it to the person? If so, then yes. If not? Then don't buy it.

Never in my life have I spent 200. $ in any bar.

I don't smoke cigarettes.

I am very careful with my money. Belittling someone, does not make them enamored of you.

I think it's a little overpriced but considering how much I love Skyrim and how SSE will help the bigger, more ambitious modding projects like Skywind, I would still pay the asking price. I'm a PC gamer anyway, though, so I'll get it for free.
