skyrim perspectivefov in morrowind

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 9:54 pm

i love the artistic style of morrowind. it moves me very much. though, the thing i like about skyrim is that everything seems/feels far away. i was wondering if there was a way to that distant perspective, like in skyrim, in morrowind?

no. it is hard for me to explain. i use MGE and the distant land feature, so i know it is not that. to my eyes, everything seems more cluttered in morrowind then in skyrim, which is very open and spacious. i really wish morrwind felt so spacious.

also, i am not knocking morrowind - this is just something i have wondered about? stylistically, artistically, etc. morrowind is the most breathtaking game i have played.

OH I think you mean how Morrowind has all its canyons and forests in such a small island, which makes it seem more cluttered then skyrim which has many opened areas, right?

FoV and Perspective? Do you mean the camera position? Because you can edit that with MGE XE. You can use it to edit the FoV as well.

it might be that - though, i thought it might be something related with the fov or perspective, i really don't know. just thought someone else might know? :)

no, not talking about the camera position. i use just MGE to edit camera position and fov, though am looking forward to trying out MGE XE. it has more to do with the feel of the environment and being spacious - that is all i know, lol.

i thought there may be a particular thing that could give morrowind that spaciousness, though i don't really know.

thanks for the help.

Try exponential fogging & atmospheric scattering, it may be what you are thinking of although I am not sure.

You can see exponential fogging in http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/3743/mgescreenshot016.jpg. If you look at the mountains in the distance, they are tinted blue; this is an approximation of how distant objects shift into blue light in real life. Here's http://www.somethingfornobody.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/MGE-Screenshot-47.jpg where I feel that fogging plays a big roll in making the island look as large as it deserves to.

Put the FOV to around 90-100 and it'll give a wider feel. Skyrim just has a lot more dead space. Morrowind is tighter, nothing you can do about the games geography.

TR's map 3, 4 and 5 has a lot of massive areas. There is an area that's similar to the Bitter Coast but it's more than 5 time bigger. There's a video with it in too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mjJqwZrl8M&feature=related

Skyrim is more than twice the size of Morrowind, which is probably your issue. Also, its mountains are much higher than anything in any prior Beth game, which gives the world much more vertical space. The scope you are getting from Skyrim is coming directly from its worldsize.

Morrowind without modifications has a small view distance, and this was done to work with the limited power of computers from 2002. So, if things were made to be VAST, people of 2002 would have effectively seen an empty landscape in front of them blocked by fog. So, Morrowind has much more compact, varied landscape that always has something interesting right in front of you, some thing new and different popping out of the fog around the next corner. I can run Skyrim on my PC, but the same computer chokes if I try to do Distant Lands on Morrowind, and this is due to its engine not being able to properly take advantage of newer computers that didn't exist ten years ago.

And, Vvardenfell *is* an island, as has been stated. The gameworld might seem bigger after the landmass mods are finished, but Vvardenfell will always be a fairly densely populated island.

These two videos might give a better idea what TR will add in terms of landscaping.

 - i have figured out the answer to my question. it is something about the artistic style. i far prefer the artistic style of Morrowind, though something about the style of art in Skyrim is what makes it seem more spacious. at least that is how i see it now.

i wish there was a to mantain Morrowind's style though add that element of the style of Skyrim which makes it looks more spacious.
