My Skyrim Piano Cover

Post » Thu Jul 29, 2010 2:51 pm

This is my piano cover for Skyrim's theme as heard in the gameplay trailer. I've been messing around with different ideas and (finally) I think I found the right sound. If you want you can listen to it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnbd5Fl0qYo.

Comments and critizism are greatly appreciated.

Very nice. I actually had plans to buy a digital piano this summer (always wanted to learn).

The beginning was nice but as soon as you tried to add your own flare to it, the piano cover fell apart. You are a good pianist though.

No offense but you kind of killed the song. The beginning was nice but as soon as you tried to add your own flare to it, the piano cover fell apart. You are a good pianist though.

Wow, you're a total jerk. Seriously, that was really good. Nice job!

Wow, you're a total jerk. I really thought it was pretty good.

He is a great pianist, and the technical skill is in the song. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, in my opinion I didn't really like the song. Its similar to not liking country or rap music. You thought the song was good and maybe the general population will too. It is just my measly and worthless opinion.

P.S. I looked at the rest of your youtube channel, and a lot of the songs you wrote yourself are fantastic.

I realized afterward that I was a little harsh with the way I worded that.

Keep up the great work, your Morrowind cover was the final push that made me decide to pick up the piano

That was played very well. Sounded like the bass was a bit overpowering, but sounded great. I don't play piano at all, but always wanted to learn. I think this might be the motivation I need. I watched your tutorial as well, very nicely done and easy to understand and follow. Thank you!

The start of the song has a cadence more akin to Nerevar Rising than Sons of Skyrim, and this sort of carries through the rest of the song. It grants it elegance where the original has quite a bit of violence to it. This isn't a bad thing, really, but it's not quite in line with the intended themes of the game. Still, that's what a cover is about: adding your own flair to it. I like it.

Yep, I put in the Morrowind theme right at the beginning. Seemed like the right thing to do.

go for it its the easiest instrument to learn you will be good in no time when you get a bit of right left hand coordination

My only concerns are
1. I'm left handed (and the right hand is the one doing the complex melodies)
2. My hands are kind of small (not really being self conscious, but it is a notable factor)

With both these restrictions, it almost feels like I wasnt meant to play stringed instruments! :glare:

Small hands are nothing you won't be able to get around. It's still worth it, man. =)
