Skyrim Population

Post » Thu Sep 22, 2011 7:52 pm

Hi Everyone,

Firstly I would like to thank Bethesda for what looks like is going to be an awesome game.

Now about this topic, I really hope that population in Skyrim will be more realistic than Oblivion. Something that bothered me about the Imperial City was it seemed rather empty in terms of population, the smaller cities were not so bad however, but I think still needed a larger population count. (Maybe children will help in this alot though :) )

I hope cities in Skyrim have a more realistic population count, even if more npc's have to be downloaded via DLC.

Also, The Imperial Legion is joinable! Yay! :D

Looking forward to 11/11/11 :)

Pretty funny that that brings something else up, I hope NPCs cant block doors and you can push them out of the way.

I remember reading that one of the major cities has 200 npcs, all going about their business. What that means in terms of how busy the streets will feel I don't know. And I haven't really heard much about any of the smaller communities in terms of population density.

I'm hoping at least double that of oblivion, I want cities too feel more active and bustling with lots of things going on. While I liked oblivions cities very much they always felt to small and underpopulated. Even during the imperial cities most active hours it felt like a lazy Sunday morning. There just weren't enough people doing different things.

That sounds ok if the city is smaller than the Imperial city, but not sure I think there may have been a bit above 200 npcs in the Imperial City.

Yeah, I got pinned against a wall by my knights during the KotN's final quest. It was annoying. Thank goodness for Midas Force Push.

I just hope any npcs they do put in are useful (read: have a purpose). I hated games like Two Wolds II, where they had lots of npcs in the market place or city streets to make the area feel busy, but you couldn't really interact with any of them. All they really did was get in the way and slow you down. I'd rather less people who serve some point to being there, to more "faceless" people just to make it feel populated.

I think this was fixed in Oblivion though right?

Isn't it a case of hardware deciding on the amount of NPCs you can have? I'm sure I read that the reason New Vegas had so many loading screens/separate cells was because that's the only way they could have so much stuff going on. I think they meant in terms of NPCs and other interactive objects. Would Skyrim be subject to the same kind of problem?

I don't say this for platform flamebait - I'm a console user myself.

I'm thinking we'll see more fully populated cities as Pete stated that because they merged the torso/leg armor they can put more npcs on screen at once.
