Skyrim Preorder

Post » Sat Oct 08, 2011 4:29 am

Hello fellow forum goers, newbie pc gamer here. I was glancing around on different websites to see who offered the best deals on Skyrim pc version. While searching, I found out several things:
  • Amazon offers a $10 amazon gift card for the PS3 and XBOX360 versions, but not for the PC versions. Why?
  • All retail pre-orders come with a physical map of Skyrim.
  • Pretty much every store you look at,skyrim costs $59.99.
  • Still no other preorder offers or promotions on Steam and other stores, except for the map, of course.
  • I believe Skyrim will be a Steamworks game, so whether you buy at retail or download it, you will still need Steam in order to run the game.
  • Skyrim comes out in five weeks.

Now I'm guessing most of you already new this information, but while I was glancing, I discovered http://www.direct2drive.com/3/11413/product/Buy-The-Elder-Scrolls-V:-Skyrim-Download. Direct 2 Drive is offering Skyrim for $53.95, instead of the normal $59.99. About 10% deduction, or 6 dollars, right there. I don't really know Direct 2 Drive, can I trust them? Will other stores lower the price of the Skyrim pre-order, or is D2D going to be the only one? Thanks for the feedback.

I think D2D has had problems with mods that need things like OBSE.

The pre-order bonuses for PC is the construction kit =P
But yeah, it kinda svcks we pay full price on steam as one buying a physical copy (and receiving the glorious map in cloth, instead of some pdf image)
Its unlikely they will put a sale on Skyrim so close to release, but Amazon might be another story

What type of pre-order bonus were you expecting? The game contains the tools that were used to build the game!

Please don't bring greed into this discussion. I'm really trying to figure out whether or not Direct 2 Drive is reliable.

Yes, it's reliable. Compatibility with mods and official expansions however...

we have NO choice but to COMPLY or not be allowed to play skyrim

... we cannot even play in offline mode because "STEAM" is hardwired to constantly check for updates and if it cant update within a certain amount of days then your account automaticly SHUTS OFF access to skyrim ...

so even a man like myself, Wheelchair Bound, and waited 5 years for the next elderscrolls game because i have no other enjoyment inlife that compares to skyrim, i am forced to give up skyrim because i dont have the money to keep internet, i will loose my ability to play skyrim even tho i paid INFULL the 60 dollars and technicaly own my copy

i dont have the money to buy an xbox360 or ps3 ... all i have is this old computer that was my last hope to get skyrim
but it wont matter because as soon as i loose internet because i can no longer afford it then i will be LOCKED out of being able to play skyrim!

happily just preordered today on steam. why not fork out the extra 6 bucks and have peace of mind?

as far as steam is concerned ive never really had an issue. witcher 2 had to download in full a few times, but i believe with a recent update they solved that. also, hines verified that mods will work with steam. as far as drm situations are concerned, steam is way better than anything else on the market imo. anyone remember that terrible one that came with splinter cell that [censored] ur bios?
