What made the PSP sucessful was the sheer number(80% if memory serves) of all previously produced PS2 games that were able to be directly ported over(no recoding, simple media re-format) with use of PSP's mini DVD (1.83 gig - 39% of 4.7)

Now wrap your noodle around this: What is to stop Sony from doing the same thing with blue ray? A mini blue ray disk would have 19.5 gigs of space(39% of 50)

You can fit as much information on flash as you can on blu-rays. And with all the games being released on flash it will also drive the price of whatever format they choose down.

Edit: Indeed you can fit a lot more onto flash than blu-rays;

http://www.sonyinsider.com/2009/08/05/sony-finalizes-backwards-compatible-memory-stick-xc-with-2tb-maximum-capacity/.

Never mind the fact the games won't be that big, but it just proves the memory isn't limited.

I stand corrected.

I may actually buy a Sony handheld. This thing just seems too powerful to be real...

I believe your confusing the original PSP to the recently officially announced PSP2. From my understanding the PSP2 has as much ram as any of the current consoles.

You can't actually get 2TB yet, but still you can get 32GB and 64GB, which is more than enough.

And @ the person who is talking about mini-blu-ray, they are using flash

And it's no wonder hadn't realized that such a leap had been made in flash.

I think if Sony was smart, they would make it so that the games on the PS3 and the games on their new handheld work in the exact same way. That is to say, there is no distinction between the games than the fact that one is on a BluRay disc and the other is on Flash memory. In fact, another useful feature would be if achievements (or trophies or whatever they're called) and save files were synced across the NGP and the PS3, allowing the handheld to truly be an extension of the console.

If that were the case, I wouldn't doubt that Bethesda might reconsider their "No handheld" approach. All they'd have to do is sign off on a fourth form of media and the profits would come streaming in.

And @ the flash memory, the most important factor to consider is that not only do they need to hold the game data, but they need to leave room for DLC packages, which will be written to the flash memory. That being said, 64 GB should be WAY more than enough.

Hideo Kojima claimed you can "enjoy the same quality as PlayStation 3" on the handheld. He also described a scenario where you could play a game on your PS3, leave the house and continue playing on the NGP, and then return to the game on your PS3 and television. He noted that this is just his dream, and there will be more announced in the future.

From this quote, it sounds like they are working towards exactly that, and hopefully by the time it is done that feature will be implemented.

Lol at the lady doing the video (psst his name is Nathan Drake). Anyway, graphicswise, it looks at least as good as the original (though it's not a direct port of either) and has some fantastic looking features there. I loved the aiming with the gyroscope thing.

these are mainly tech demos or quick ports as-well, just see the difference from first gen games on any system, and these ant really even first gen yet.

Though the video is called "Uncharted (Working Title)" which suggests that it is a game being made currently and set to come out on the system (probably a release title actually).

I've always wanted a TES on a portable device.

I hope they at the very least port Oblivion, I'm sure that would be easy considering the psp2's power

Todd said they wouldn't do anything on portable that could be done better on the consoles.

However Oblivion, FO3, FNV and Skyrim should all run on the NGP without any recoding or loss of content.

Have you seen the stuff released for it? Metal Gear Solid 4 and Uncharted are pretty damn big games for a console, and this new PSP2 can run both of them with ease. As well as this it's getting Call of Duty, Killzone, Resistance and wipeout - I'm more than sure it can handle Skyrim.

It was also shown to be able to easily run Unreal Engine 3 without any hiccups so thats another indication it can run skyrim, another point is that the PSP2 is being made in a way that it is easy to quickly put PS3 games on the system. The name of this process escapes me, but it's basically saying it can run PS3 games through this process.

Apparently it's ditching the disk drive in favor of flash.

What? They put a quad core processor and a gig of ram (which is more than ps3 and 360) but are going with flash?

I know, but... I'm proud to live in the time period that I do. :D I just... in my short life of 16 years alone I've gone from playing the SNES to the PS1, to the PS2, to the PS3, and now the PS3's power is basically in a handheld and we're discussing a serious possibility of TES V: Skyrim not only finally being released, but coming out on a handheld... I... coooooooooooolllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!!! :P

You should try being 30 and first playing games on a Sinclare Spectrum 128K, with tape drive on the side. Tape!!! God awful!

As for Skyrim on handheld... Dont think that will happen IMO. We have all watched the vid where Tod stated that they have no interest in making Skyrim for the handheld platforms. The only games for those platforms would be games that are better on no other platform. Ok so the PSP2 was not mentioned at that time, and Tod did state also "at this time", and the PSP2 apparently has some beef inside, so maybe.... but i think unlikely. I dont know if i would enjoy it on a 5 " screen, and maybe Beth see it the same, just not as good.
But if you could have some sort of HD video out to TV or PC monitor, maybe it could be worth it. You could take it to work or school or whatever and hook up to a screen anywhere...
