Skyrim on PSP2

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 1:57 am

Sony have just announced their successor to the PSP. Looks like it has plenty of power under the hood. Oblivion Travels unfortunately never materialised on the PSP, but would you be keen on seeing Skyrim on PSP2? Now that the device is confirmed as having twin anologue sticks I would absolutely love being able to take Skyrim anywhere with me.

Todd has said they're not really interested in portable consoles or anything. However, if it has enough power and buttons, I wouldn't mind a port to PSP2. Speaking of which, I DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS ANNOUNCED! Do you have a link?

If they're getting a hand-held console to match the PS3's power as they claim... then what exactly is taking up all that extra space in a PS3? :poke:

Why wouldn't the PSP2 need a cooling fan or a similar sized hard drive if it's equivalent in power to a PS3?

Why? Looks like it should be fully capable of running the game.

It doesn't use a hard drive. It uses memory cards. As for a fan, I guess it's just better technology since it WAS made about 5 years later. Technology just evolves. At the time I guess the space was probably needed. The PSP is about as powerful as PS2 but it was made later and is much smaller.

The PSP2 is going to be a better platform for gaming than the PS3? What about the slim? Surely they upgraded its fan. If they can get a PS3's power into a handheld, why isn't it time to announce the PS4? 5 years made compressing a PS3 into a handheld possible? I think we're going through a technological revolution, here.

If Sony is to believed, even the full game might run with less texture size and view distance.
I'd really love to have some TES to play on the go.

It's not a handheld PS3 in any way. Different technology, less room on the storage medium of choice, and of course the slightly lower (read: half as big) resolution might have tipped you off...

If it does happen it won't be until a year after release.

Edit: but then again it may just be plug and play like most PS2 games for PSP.

It sounds from the information like it is close to that power, I don't know whether it is more powerful. Look, I don't have all the answers. I'm just going off some bits of information. I'm no expert in the field in any sense. There are any number of reasons they would or would not announce a PS4. The PSP was released about 1 or 2 years before PS3. Maybe it'll be the same case here. But compressing already existing technology isn't the same as making new technology anyway.

Don't fall for marketing hype.

Edit:
That was a pretty hypocritical statement from me considering how I'm eating up each and every tidbit of information regarding this game. :whistling:

I know, but... I'm proud to live in the time period that I do. :D I just... in my short life of 16 years alone I've gone from playing the SNES to the PS1, to the PS2, to the PS3, and now the PS3's power is basically in a handheld and we're discussing a serious possibility of TES V: Skyrim not only finally being released, but coming out on a handheld... I... coooooooooooolllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!!! :P

I think it only matches the PS3s power because the resolution is so much smaller than the 1080p that the PS3 can also output. Also bigger components lead to higher quality and less chance of melting :D

I couldn't take Skyrim seriously on a handheld. It's worth much more than that to me.

Friend: "What happened to you?"

PSP2 Owner: "Oh, I was playing with my PSP2, see, and I placed it on my lap for a moment while I grapped my cup of tea from the nightstand and... well... let's just say I'm not feeling very manly..."

Not sure what it'll be able to achieve at best, but I read that they showed a port of Uncharted (don't know which one though, but both are fairly graphics intense I think). I think it probably would be able to run the game at least, even if the draw distance and textures were not as good, since it's coming out on 360, which is weaker than the PS3 itself.

I meant the PS3 would melt if it was smaller, not the PSP2 :P

Yeah, if they can fit the necessary hardware into a tiny case, power it with a tiny little battery, and output little enough heat to not be a hazard, I'll eat my hat.
