Skyrim Races - Body types

Post » Mon Feb 14, 2011 5:05 am

Those of us who played Morrowind remember that the Argonians and khajiits had completely different body types than that of the human races. They were very thin, their legs were shaped completely differently, their feet were so long and big that they couldn't wear shoes/boots, and they had heads with snouts preventing them from wearing full faced helmets. This doesn't cover everything, each race was quite different physically than the others. However, in Oblivion, these differences were no where near as noticeable. The Argonians and Khajiits had basically the same body as any other race in the game, with the exception of the tail and a slight snout. They could still wear shoes and full-faced helmets etc.. In TES V Skyrim, should body styles of each race be more diverse so that each race is unique? Or should they try to make each body type more similar to the others?

Diversion is always better. It would be cool to have different heights, sizes and body weights, not only different bodies for different races. But I guess we won′t see that, still I hope for it.

While it would be a pain in the ass for modders, I want my Beast races to walk awkwardly.

While I'd love there to be more distinction between the races, the problem is they'd have to make two models for every single race all very different for armor. This will consume a lot of time.

The Morrowind like beast races would be interesting, but they would need to be (MUCH!) better animated. The walking animations looked so clumsy in third person in Morrowind. Maybe have boobles Argonians too, while we're at it? :D

Of course i'm fine with Oblivion-like beasts too, but hopefully they improve the head meshes; in Oblivion i prefer the modded Ohmes-Raht khajiit race (like the default Suthay-Raht, but with human-like face).

Argonians and Khajiit should be similar to those of Morrowind, with better animation. Nords and Orc should be large and burly. Dunmer, Altmer, and Bosmer should look like Olympic athletes, tall, strong, and physically fit. Imperials, Bretons, and Redguard will look the same as in other games. That's just my opinion.

I like your opinion. Maybe an option for different leg types? Odd for me to say this but even though Argonians and Khajiit walked differently, that had different legs. Now if you can make them walk/run as to which they should, for example a Khajiit would possibly show more stride when they run. Something like that.

Khajiit and Argonians need their legs back!!!! I am really hopeful that with this one they will in fact bring back a certain level of depth that was lost with Oblivion.

Maybe they could introduce half races into Skyrim, Giving a reason to the Khajiit and Argonion body changes. Like in D&D (for example) you can mix races, am i the only one that wouldn't mind seeing this?

I want it more varied than Oblivion's, but not like Morrowind.

Your strength and endurance should affect your body type
That is all.

In TES when cross-breeding happens the child takes the race of the mother. It is also unclear whether beast races can have children with humans or elves, so it's not that good of an idea.

I preferred how it was in Oblivion to how it was in Morrowind, at least for the Khajiit.

I think it would be cool to control things like height, which I imagine wouldn't be too hard to implement given its just scaling and could be done in Oblivion with the console, and maybe weight as well, which would be harder. Just keep in mind that every extra variable adds to the complexity that is modding.

I agree, I would really enjoy to see half breeds. It is an innovation in the franchise I would really enjoy to see, like an Orc/Nord cross.

Not only would it be more interesting, but I'm hoping that bodies in general will be built more like Morrowind's than Oblivion's. That is to say, I much preferred the robust, angular "Greek god statue" approach to the characters in Morrowind than the squishy tube armor that they ran around in Oblivion.

There could always be Khajiit variety, for those who prefer one or the other. There's plenty of types of Khajiit that could be implemented, but even just two would be enough to appease both crowds - if Khajiit are included at all.

My opinions:
Altmer should be tall, thin, with a certain frail look (strength through magicka).
Argonian, Khajiit, Dunmer and Bosmer should be athletic of build; Argonian swims, Khajiit runs. Dunmer and Bosmer are versatile, and both are quite quick on their feet, although not extremely muscular types. Bosmer, if possible, should have slightly more developed arms, due to marksmanship.
Imperial and Breton should be medium of build, very 'average'.
Orc, Redguard, and Nord should all be a bit more muscular of build, moreso with the Orc than the other two.

Several body types for all races, of course. In Oblivion, count is as fat as a beggar. Mages are in same physical condition as fighters, old women have looks of 20 yearolds!

Well, I think that mages should not be 8-pack huge rippling pecks.
You should be able to choose your body type depending on the type of character you plan to make.

I hope they avoid the goofy style MW had for the beast races.

I don't want Khajit(sp?) and Argonians to have human legs again, but don't make them as extreme and unnatural looking as it did in Morrowind. Their strides shouldn't make them look like they've got Kwamas up their asses, but they should have lizard calves and ankles again.

OT: I agree that they should have different body-types to a respectable degree.

The beast races don't have to be like Morrowind, but I don't want them to be 'humans in a lizard/cat suit' either.

I agree, the armor in Morrowind looked better artistically, Oblivion's felt uninspired and generic imo.

Never played Morrowind but from what i've seen of the body types, I prefer Oblivion.

Though Oblivion was never perfect, it seemed to be just different scales of size and colour for the anatomy of all races; weith various heads stuck on them.

It'd be nice to see a lot more versatility between races, and between members of the same race; without names I could never tell one Imperial from the next.

Argonians and Khajiits should be radically different in their body structure, like in Morrowind. In Morrowind they even had different walks, which was great - they would walk with this loping style if they had legs like they did in Morrowind, and they should! I was disappointed when in Oblivion, Khajiits and Argonians were just weird-looking people. They're beast races, and should be beastier.

The rest of the races it doesn't really matter, as they're all more or less similar. Varation in size and shape according to gender and race has already been done, and I don't really need much else.
