Skyrim region block in Russia (Steam)

Post » Tue Sep 20, 2011 8:53 am

Do all people in Russia act like this or is it only you?

1. Google "why russians never smile".
2. I never asked for help, I asked if anyone knows when, why and by whom the regional block was raised. Instead I got three pages of B.S. advice ranging from violating Steam EULA to spending thousands traveling abroad.

If it were me in your shoes I'd try to find an online shop that doesn't care what region you are from.

And again, unacceptable. Online shops like Ebay and Amazon ship DVDs, see the reasons for not being able to use postal service above. Local shops only offer localised version which I don't need.

Why not just make a new account under another name that only has that game on it (figure if you are using a proxy server you might as well also use another E-mail address and new Steam account ) -- that way if they do ban it all you lose is that one game and all your others are still intact.

Because I'm still waiting for a http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1231316-skyrim-region-block-in-russia-steam/page__view__findpost__p__18609971.

Have you ever tried saying that in a different, less whiny tone maybe "thanks for the help but {insert here is why i can't use your advice]" instead of being a little baby and just giving people who are ONLY TRYING TO HELP sarcasm. Do all people in Russia act like this or is it only you? If it were me in your shoes I'd try to find an online shop that doesn't care what region you are from.

To be fair, most of the replies in this thread with 'advice' have been pretty stupid...

OP the best bet you have is to Call Steam and ask them why it is locked~ then go from there~

The steam support ticket has been sent during QuakeCon, when I found out there was the region block in the first place. Still no reply. The issue did not resolve itself like it did in the UK, so I decided to ask here.

There's no excuse for rudeness. Stop being a [censored]. Hell, I'd gift you the damned game if I had the money and you sent me a ushanka but that pissy attitude should change. The fact that you never asked for help doesn't excuse your rudeness to people who are being kind enough to even waste their time clicking on your thread and typing out their suggestion. Also why would anybody know the answers to who put up the ban and why they did so? Why would this information help your case in any way, even if you got said information you would still be a guy who can't get Skyrim because of [censored] localisation ban.

Yet you are rude towards me.

Let's stop at this point.

Pfff never bother with tickets~ most of the time they end up getting burried under the mound of other tickets from other customers, if not lost altogether~ If you are able too, then contact customer service! :)

That svcks. I don't play on the PC and it's times like these that make me happy I own an xbox. You could make another steam account and then change your IP address or whatever. That way you don't risk your other games. Idk if that would work. Never used steam b4.

Guys - cool it as it's all getting a bit personal. If we are able to find an answer, and there is no guarantee on that, we will let you know but it won't be for a while as admin are not around until at least tomorrow.

Sounds to me like Steam svcks...... :P jk

It's better than Windows Live IMO but yeah, it does svck. Single player games shouldn't even require an internet connection.

OH MY GOD! I wear ushanka, drink vodka from samovar, eat caviar, play balalaika, paint khohloma, ride a T-34-76 to work and walk my bear on unicycle on a regular basis.

That's alright, here in Canada we wrestle polar bears to get to our dog sleds and club baby seals for fun.

Edit: fixed quote.

I totally agree that the localized versions svck. It's not just games either, it's for movies, serials, printed media and anything else that has a lot to translate. They totally ruin it and you are forced to use the English version because your own version is mind numbingly bad. Knowing this, it's an outright poor decision to force an inferior version on people just because of where they're from.

I'm not sure how the region locking is going to work on Skyrim but I assume you'll get an un-basterdized version legally delivered somehow. With NV it was based on the region you bought it in (based on my experience). When I pre-ordered it I was in Europe and when it launched I was in the US so I couldn't download it. Everyone else around me was downloading it and exploring their desert but I wasn't allowed to because I had to wait for Europe's launch date.. While I was in the US. That svcked. I'm back in Europe now and this time I didn't pre-order it because I have no idea if I'll be here, the US or Asia come launch time.

I hope the fix the situation for you soon.

I'm Russian so I would like an answer to this question as well. I don't want another horrible translation from 1Ass, I don't want to wait months for patches, I want to be able to buy DLC on the day of their release and not a year later in a GOTY edition. And yes, I'm willing to pay 60$ for it.

Alright I have a better solution for you, why don't you get it from Armenia, my homeland! It isn't blocked here! You can come, buy Skyrim, and then I will make you chicken kebab with a side of pilaf and graqe leaf dolmah!

EDIT: Oh wait, my friend! I just remembered something! Once when I was in Germany, there was a region lock on a certain game. I also didn't have euros in my steam wallet, just USD. So I contacted Steam, told them I was just visiting Germany, and I wanted to have access to the American server and the steam support man lifted boundaries on my account and I could buy the game in Germany. I suggest you contact steam support as soon as possible as they will readily help you!

You'd really do that? Armenias are awesome... or they're very good at luring people into traps. Either which way I'd come for the free kebab if I had the time.

You might want to try a free VPN service, although I don't know how Valve might react whenever they discover you're using their service through a VPN tunnel. It's technically feasible but I don't know jack on their policies.

Download http://ultravpn.fr/, register a free UVPN account, start the VPN client, enter your account credentials, start Steam, set English as your preferred language, buy the game. You'll appear online as a user physically located somewhere in France.

Note that UVPN authentication servers are temporarily down for maintenance, hence you should wait till tomorrow to register an account. As for how to buy the game without a credit card, register a Paypal account and fund it through your bank account.

Buying through VPN may result in ban (read somewhere, forgot the reason)
But playing with it is ok (done myself)

My suggestion? try to make someone send you a gift (tough part), play with VPN if it does not unlocks in Russia

Hahaha. They smile, but just not to other people. Why give someone something pleasant when they won't give you anything back in return.

When you serve someone as a clerk in a clothing store and the person spends your month's salary on a coat, they're smiling because they have a whole extra months salary to waste on a coat. You can't create a smile because you're not happy for them. You're only in that shop because you have no money and have a boss who ensures you never have anything to smile about.

I prefer cultures where people are friendly and outgoing. I like when I walk down a street and a stranger greets me because I made eye contact with him. It's much better than people avoiding eye contact with you in a supermarket and bumping you out of the way with their cart when they want to move past.

There is something about broken communism that not only gives people a difficult life, but makes them negatively envious and jealous of others around them if they have less difficult lives and more money.

Armenians were a bit differnt than the people in the other Soviet countries during that time. We used humor and good-natured fun to stay alive in those times. Even though many were sent to Siberia, we still laughed and had fun simply because we could! :D I guess simply Armenians are just naturally friendly, happy people and the Union simply brought us closer together since we all were dealing with the same crap. We will always help out a freind in need and we will always party and have a good time no matter how bad things may seem.
ps: The propaganda poster guy, as a joke, once put a sign that said "Lenin is With Us" over the insane asylum
