Skyrim is rewarding?! How so?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 3:46 pm

How is this game in ANY WAY rewarding? Enemies keep dropping the same useless loot over and over and over again. Quests returns don't give any XP and very little loot/gold (sometimes nothing at all).

Exploring?! Get out of here! Exploring is not rewarding. How is this game rewarding??? In what way? What am I doing wrong here?

You're worrying about it not being rewarding, that's what you're doing wrong.

If you had to ask the question, you probably wouldn't understand the answer.

The reward apparently is in your Mind, the game really doesn't care about your accomplishments and doesn't make you feel special for doing things differently...if you can at all ;p so just enjoy it for what it is.

I love to play a character exploring ancient ruins for loot and the designers took time to add color to the dungeons in game this time. I like the little stories I find inside them and the surprises. If I looked at it as just a combat game I would get bored in a hurry and go play a FPS. Really, without the exploration of a dark and dangerous world... I couldn't enjoy Skyrim.

What are you doing wrong? Apparently everything. "Exploring is not rewarding?" Then yeah, you're in the wrong place, and I don't know what you were expecting when you started playing this game.

The exploring part is "OK". But damnit! reward me for it! I want to go in a dungeon and say..."Wow! cool dungeon! Oh snap! Look at what I found!".

NOT...

"Wow! Cool Dungeon! What's this? Oh...same garbage loot.....AGAIN!". Sheesh!

The reward is not what you get from the quest, it is the quest itself....

A Mod which gave really good items as quest rewards (not only for the later faction quests) would be nice I guess, but I don't mind. I just want to go into the next cave sightseeing. ^^

I was fighting a giant. Well, I was level 5 so I was more running away from a giant. Next thing you know, a dragon attacks. The giant takes a swing and hits said dragon. They proceed to fight for about three or four minutes. Then, the dragon takes flight. The giant once again comes for me and as I was an idiot and stayed to watch the fight, I hadn't noticed that I was cornered in an alcove between some tall rocks. As the giant rears back to launch me into orbit, the dragon swoops down and picks the giant up and proceeds to drop him from 50 or 60 feet in the air, killing the giant instantly. I then fight and kill the dragon and retire to the nearest tavern for some downtime.

If the story above is not the sort of experience you find rewarding, this game is not for you.

I find a nice glass of scotch rewarding. I find my goddaughter rewarding. I find old muscle cars rewarding even if I don't actively participate in the hobby these days. I find sportscars rewarding. I find collecting vintage firearms rewarding. I find quiet time rewarding. I find many books rewarding. I find Skyrim to be interesting and therefore, rewarding

See, what I do is: I find something I like, and then I do it. I don't try to hammer on things that aren't for me until "I like them". If I don't like them, if they aren't rewarding, I stop doing that thing or participating in it. Just because somebody else finds their bowling league rewarding doesn't mean bowling is for me.

Maybe this is secret you could try to learn from, Nyde.

For this guy, I guess trolling forums of a game he doesn't find rewarding is very rewarding.

I don't see what's garbage about, a new dragon shout, or an item with an enchantment on it I've not learnt yet, a high powered spell scroll (for my warrior)

You're right. You should just trade the game in and buy yourself a couple months of WoW time. And never return here again.
