Scary over all, no. Do some of the encounters have the ability to surprise the heck out of you? Yup!

Walking minding your own business, and a Saber tooth, Wolf or bear ASSAULTS YOU from behind out of NOWHERE. yes I've jumped several times, or when you see skeletons supposedly dead on the ground, laying down or sitting, and you turn your back and WHACK you get ninjaed....

You get surprised yes, but not really scary. So it varies. c:

I get surprised every now and then by a monster I didn't see, but that's not the same thing as being scary.

Well when I'm prancing through the tall grass and completely miss the excellently camouflaged sabercat slowly stalking me from behind...yea I freak out lol
I actually really like what Bethesda did with sabercats. They aced the coloration, movement, and AI perfectly for them. I really feel like they're actually hunting me as opposed to the mountain lions in Oblivion that just ran at you head on.

Overall, I don't think Skyrim is scary, but there are definitely some creepy/disturbing things. I agree OP, the Falmer are creepy as hell, as are their chaurus pets.

The first time I stumbled into a Falmer dungeon was easily the creepiest moment in any TES game I've played, except maybe raiding my first Sixth House stronghold in Morrowind.

Now whenever I'm in a dungeon and suddenly start noticing the glowing fungus on the ceiling and the Glowing Mushrooms growing on the walls, I know I've stumbled into Falmer territory. Also after a while you can recognize the clicking noises the chaurus make. That still gets to me! Those little buggers (and big buggers in the case of the reapers) still give me the willies.

Also, the first time I met the Falmer was during the Frostflow Lighthouse quest, which is pretty disturbing as it is, much less meeting the Falmer for the first time there! Everything about them reminds me of the cave mutants from the movie "The Descent." *shudder*

Other than the Falmer though, I'm not sure anything is "scary." The first couple dungeons I went through that had Draugr in them were suspenseful, not necessarily scary, because you never knew when a body would come alive or burst out of a coffin. But after so long playing, the Draugr have become predictable and so are less scary.

Dwemer ruins always give me that creepy feeling though, even if I don't fight any enemies inside. I think it's because they're so *different* from everything else. The still-working machinery always sets me on edge, because it's hard to know if those banging/clanking noises are from monsters or not.

I think what makes me think twice are the hidden stories and unmentioned events you come across over the course of the game, like some of the books or notes left behind. that one shadow or glimps of something running off in the distance.

has anyone come arcross the invisible Khajiit near Falkreath, He attacks with you impunity and you cannot see him for nothing...

I don't really find Skyrim that scary. Surprisingly i've had more scary moments in Minecraft- not even "jump" moments, just times in the beginning of the game when you have to wait out a night and you are constantly hearing zombie/skeleton noises that sound like they're right next to you

Surprised yes, but never scared. If I were facing most of these beasts in real life, I'd probably crap my pants... but the game just doesn't evoke feelings of dread the way a good horror game or movie would. That's fine, as it's not intended to be a horror game.

This reminds me, though: I don't quite understand arachnophobes. There are mods to remove spiders from the game for those who are arachnophobic. Why? They're in a video game. I assure you I'm dragonophobic in real life (haven't seen one and hope I never do), but in a game, they're fun. I don't have any phobias that I know of, though, so obviously I have no way of "getting it".

Nah, not really. Closest thing to "scary" was the early part of "House of Horrors", but in the end, it didn't live up to the name.

I did get a free house out of it though. :goodjob:

I was actually hoping it would have some more creepy moments like Fallout 3 did. They made TES more bleak and gritty this time around yet didnt really use it for much horror. They could have easily done this if they brought back zombies or made Draugr creepier because they already have dark gloomy environments. I know I'm not the first to say this on these forums but the draugr just feel like skeletons with clothes.

I really cant even begin to understand why zombies werent included in Skyrim.. they are one of the top "monsters" gamers love and its not like they dont exist in TES already. Add zombies, some of those bloody bones/limbs here and there, some extra fog would be creepy. Dev kit cant get here soon enough. :banghead:

Dwemer ruins make me so nervous, especially once you cleared out all the bandits or Forsworn residing in the shallow areas, but the middle zone where there's only stil lworking machinery and no machiens yet, those are scary.

I'm never easily scared, so I went for "no". Anyway, I've had my fine share of "HOLY [censored]!" moments, like being stabbed in the back by a Draugr aslept a second ago while I was picking up potions or the like.
