Skyrim Screenshot anolysis #1

Post » Sat Dec 04, 2010 10:11 pm

This is something I've thought of. Since we still have a good wait lets dissect some of these awesome Skyrim screenshots Bethesda has provided for our eyes to stare at.
Let's start out with the Picture of the people in the Tavern, List as many details as you can in the pictures and I will update this the more and more people post things they notice which will help others maybe notice something they hadn't before incase we missed some stuff........ here we go.
http://www.elderscrolls.com/skyrim/media/screenshots/tavern/

-The Tavern may be in Riverwood
-Older Characters bodies look more winkled and younger more smooth as well as their facial features.
-Things on the back wall seem to be casting shadows
-Slaughter-fish mounted on the wall
-Drinks and potions have different shapes
-Mammoths tusk on the top shelf
-Some pieces of cheese
-The merchant on the left is selling Drinks (maybe potions) and the merchant on the right is selling Foods.
-Female Merchant is sweeping the floor with a broom
-The NPC sitting to the very left is a Bosmer.
-The mounted elk/deer head on the wall is very large and has two birds are adjacent to it.
-Very unique clothing items from the various NPCs
-The man sitting at the bar on the far left is both sitting and resting his arms on the counter.
-The Man on the left and the bartender appear to be conversing the way you would expect a bar tender and a customer to converse.
-The men appear muscular and the women look more feminine.
-Dragon teeth act as the light fixture.

I've actually never even see this photo with such detail. The game informer mag didn't do it justice...not to mention the product quality of gamer informer has been completely reduced since Bethesda showed off Oblivion 7 years ago.

- The drying foliage on the back wall seems to be casting a shadow within itself.
- Thats got to be a slaughterfish mounted on the wall
- Drinks and potions have different shapes (you can see a triangular shaped one, spherical ones, and bottles)

Looking at this screenshot with such detail also makes me think that this was taken on an xbox..as their doesnt appear to be any anti-aliasing on the females hair.

Looks like slaughterfish may be back if you look on the wall behind the bar. And maybe mamoths or something with the tusk below the fish. Or maybe the fish just sings! Give me back that filet-o-fish, give me that fish.

Edit: and http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=franks+redhot&view=detail&id=642D6DFAF977AD896208EF68F8D20186E3C1E60C&first=1&FORM=IDFRIR could be an ingredient for fire damage poisons. Over the bartenders right shoulder.

It's confirmed, there is cheese. You have to squint really hard and say a prayer, but you can just make out 3 large pieces of it clearly in view.

The merchant on the left is selling liquor and the merchant on the right is selling food. There is some sort of fish mounted on the wall. There is garlic hanging from the ceiling.

The candles in the light fitting are tusk shaped

Possible use of mammoth tusks as candle moulds?

The stone-floor in the middle-bottom is completely flat. There's no depth at all, it seems. It looks bad I think. Parallax occlusion mapping would do the trick. Or really really good normal maps. Or tessellation of course

--------------
Edit: The tavern itself looks really nice and alive. Looks natural!

It'd be amazing if they were from a newly designed http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/images/22684-3-1237587082.jpg

I want one.

I can see it now a Horker plush toy for people who buy the collector's edition.

Bah! Major discovery I just did!

The sitting NPC to the very left in http://download2.zenimax.com/akqacms/files/tes/screenshots/Tavern01_wLegal.jpg
...
is possibly the same NPC walking (holding something) closest to the player in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSRtYpNRoN0&feature=player_detailpage#t=87s
They have the same clothes and possibly the same hair.

And in the trailer I linked, you can see (if watching in full detail), that that NPC has elf-ears. I assume this NPC is a Bosmer.
This place was also seen in the magazines, where it said it was Riverwood.

Therefore, I come to the incredibly important and major conclusion that the NPC sitting to the very left in http://download2.zenimax.com/akqacms/files/tes/screenshots/Tavern01_wLegal.jpg
... is a Bosmer in the tavern of Riverwood! Most likely just done working concerning carrying something! Bah!

1. The elk head mounted on the wall is massive.

2. Two birds are hanging adjacent to the elk head (likely pheasants).

3. Under said birds is a fish. Could be a Slaughterfish. Could also be a new species.

4. Below the fish there is a mammoth tusk, which gives us an idea of how big these creatures are. If it belongs to an advlt, not very big at all. If it doesn't, baby mammoths!

6. Many variations of bottles on the shelf to the left.

7. Every type of clothing shown, you can wear. That's just cool.

8. And last but not least, this confirms Skyrim's wenches are hotter than Cyrodiil's. If there was ever any arguement...

Edit: Baby mammoth's don't have tusks. :violin:

Have nobody ever noticed the two new skills to the far left and right on this screenshot?:
http://www.elderscrolls.com/skyrim/media/screenshots/tavern/ (the skills menu image after the tavern, somehow I didn't get to link it directly)

The left one ends with "...AFT" - probably a craft skills but which? It's not Smithing because that's on the far right "SMITH...". I found this rather interesting because it seems like some people have totally missed this in their guesses as to which skills are in the game.

-One of the cheese wheels on the counter is floating over a larger cheese wheel. I guess they haven't fixed that little havok hiccup yet.
-None of the items on the counter are casting any shadows for some reason. Could just be the way the lighting is oriented.
-All of the items on the shelf are casting shadows.
-No self shadows. I know there's a few people out there that care about that sort of thing.
-The man sitting at the bar on the far left is both sitting and resting his arms on the counter. At a glance this doesn't seem all that impressive but considering how you can have varying heights for surfaces like that this is no small feat. The havok animation system is probably coming into play here.
-Also he and the bartender appear to be conversing the way you would expect a bar tender and a patron to converse.

Edit: It's hard to tell but I think the patron may be holding both a mug and a bottle.
