Skyrim Screenshots

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 8:25 am

Though I only recently started taking part in discussions I have been a reader of the lore forum for many years, since before Oblivion's release. I am a continuity nerd too, so any little piece of information that hearkens back to a previous game just makes me smile. I thought it would be fun to post images of these moments, and see what others come up with as well.

Nice to see the continuity from the first Pocket Guide.

Does this mean Wulfharth will be making an appearance later? I haven't played far enough in the main quest to know.

(I assume I have not made enough posts to post inline images.) (Edit: Nobody does, I guess.)

Their disabled on these fourms, have been for as long I've been here. My understanding is that the policy is ancient by forum standards. Might even go back to the morrowind days.

I actually first registered here in 2002, I think. I don't recall seeing images allowed then, but it was 9 years ago.

Here's a screenshot of what is probably Vvardenfell after the Red Year: http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/614968439126039799/E56324222952DD0391F1A6F842BCC6ED41078AA5/
Took it at Dunmeth pass. Used TCL to get up high enough to get a good look. I'm sure you can get a better picture if you turn off the borders.

Oh man, I didn't even think of doing that. I'll be heading up there for some cartography as soon as I'm able.

Now if someone whose brain works could tell me what those different flags indicate beyond "red empire, blue stormcloaks", I'd be grateful.

Some of the flags (ones with two flags per tiny pole), are the major cities of the holds. The other flags seem to correspond to the various villages, such as dragonbridge. IF you have skyrim, you can simply go up to the flag and put your cursor over it. Each one is labeled, and activating them will add the corresponding map marker to your world map.

This book was a pleasant surprise. The way the Skaal conflate the Greedy Man with Thartaag the World-Devourer looks so prescient now. It is something I would never have thought of back in Bloodmoon.

A cheeky Thalmor at work here? Or a devout worshiper giving Talos something to make him riled up?

I'm not sure Windhelm is worth marking with a blue flag. I mean, I haven't spoken to its Jarl yet, but Winterhold is almost completely made up of the College, which doesn't hold an alliegence with either side. Without it, I think it's smaller than Riverwood. Both Morthal and Whiterun possess leaders who have taken a neutral position, which according to Ulfric, means they're against the rebellion. And both Whiterun and Dawnstar have divided populations, despite the latter's Jarl having pro-Stormcloak sympathies. I guess I can see where they're coming from, marking the flags as they do, but the situation is a little too nuanced to treat the flags over Morthal, Dawnstar, and Whiterun with much seriousness.

Not screenshots, but images extracted directly from the game. These are the relief carvings from the Hall of Stories, and, thanks to the texture names, we finally know that they represent the ancient animal gods worshiped by Atmorans. I've applied the _n maps to them to bring out the detail, but they are otherwise unedited:

http://img191.imageshack.us/img191/6048/hallmuralwolf01.jpg, http://img69.imageshack.us/img69/6804/hallmuralwhale01.jpg, http://img856.imageshack.us/img856/7597/hallmuralsnake01.jpg, http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/2007/hallmuralowl01.jpg, http://img846.imageshack.us/img846/3705/hallmuralhawk01.jpg, http://img507.imageshack.us/img507/7898/hallmuralmoth01.jpg, http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/479/hallmuralfox01.jpg, http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/5441/hallmuraldragon01.jpg, http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/7042/hallmuralbear01.jpg.

It'd be interesting to see which Aedra (and Daedra?) they match up with.

It really is, but honestly, I'm not surprised. Of course we'd deck ourselves out in Thalmor gear, and I think ~ half of all the character screenies I've seen have some sort of crown on. Crowns are cool.

Anyway, the Thalmor exiled Sayaril for his love of skipping (gravimetronic rebelion in anti-standard radian-denominated strides is forbidden under ordinance 11-Understar Phynaster Primal), so, though he loves his homeland very much, he also has some issues with their more superficial regulations. Upon being exiled, he decided to travel to Skyrim in search of that nations famed leaping demons and facial hair.

Are you sure that wale is flying? If so, the ancient nords had flying rowboats. That's pretty damn hardcoe of them.

I'm not sure if they're part of the same image, I don't recall finding this one in game. A mesh can use adjacent parts of a texture on different parts of the mesh (you'll notice that the right side of the god pictures is used *above* the main in game). Also, the whale is surrounded by cloud swirls, while the rowboat (?) has waves beneath it.

It'd be great if someone could find it in game.

In my mind, my character is constantly svcking up to the Thalmor and doing quests for them to try and get a one way ship back to Alinor.
