Skyrim should have mini games

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:13 am

Yo I dont know if you guys have played Red Dead Redemption but I think they should have mini games that you should be able to play. Like in Red dead there was multiple games you could do. Here is some examples with video links. Leave a comment on what you think about adding this kind of stuff to skyrim. Thanks. In skyrim it would just have a medieval tone and theme to it.

RDR 1v1 Duel : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpiVxF5vCmc&feature=related

Five Finger fillet Mini Game : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_BZZskjgvI

Arm Wrestling : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsjwXcQrcew&feature=related

Horse shoes : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ls5H0ihHlWE&feature=related

Poker/ Texas hold 'em : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCzTvNMUlCA

Also user "Skyrimus" brought up a good idea about a drinking game. It would finish out the good feeling of a tavern and or pub! Thanks

Only, if they're fun. Nothing like Fable 2's. RDR is a good example, I actually enjoyed the mini-games.
By the way be prepared for a bunch of negative responses OP

Well, you will encounter puzzles while dungeon diving. http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/04/27/elder-scrolls-skyrim-your-questions-answered/; second paragraph, last sentence of the answer to his question.

It's not a mini game, but it's a little something fun.

It wouldn't hurt to maybe have a music mini game, I suppose, considering that was an instrument in the tavern part of the trailer.

Only Skyrim should have a drinking game too!

I like mini games, the Gold Saucer from FF7(indoor amusment park) brings back fond memorys. What I don't like are Beth's skill based mini games, the only one I thought was decent was the Fallout lock pick one, as it felt like picking a lock and it was fast(and your skill still mattered).

I'll never like the fact that you can't at least attempt to pick any lock in F3.

It could give us less incentive to not kill certain NPCs who show up at the tavern to try to drink you under the round table. If there is not something like this already I will start work on the mod 11.12.11 post haste. :foodndrink:

Huh? You can't pick lock that are beyond your skill level, what is the issue?

@Worm, what do you not like about mini games(not skill based ones)?

I've never really been interested in minigames. Yeah - it was sort of cool when Dragon Quest/Warrior III did it.... what? 25 years ago? It was an interesting novelty then, but beyond that - I just can't really get into playing a character who's playing a game. It's seems sort of pointless. If I wanted to play that game instead of the game I'm playing, I'd play that game instead of the game I'm playing.

Anyone can at least attempt to pick any lock. Make it a 1 in a million chance i'm cool with that. Don't shut me out completely and tell me I can't even attempt to because my skill is too low. Pretty much an invisible wall.

It depends on the game, in Skyrim we will be able to cut wood, etc Because npc can do, why don't npc play games. FNV is a good example the mini games were logical, the same would work for Skryim, I am not suggesting over the top Final Fantasy type mini games. But people playing dice in a bar, drinking games, perhap even some very simple music game, etc would be reasonable.

I heart Mingames. Even Oblivions were fun... sort of... for the first little while. I mastered them anyways.

Cos', if you know that behind that door there could be all kinds of different rewards, you're gonna at least give it a go! Who wouldn't? Especially in the world of Fallout where survival is big issue.

Not really, unless we get to play the Ocarina, and that would have the added bonus of best easter egg ever.

"Mini-games" that seek to perform a skill based task in the game are the only ones i can tolerate, such as lockpicking, smithing, alchemy and enchanting. All other "activities" such as archery contests, fishing, barding, farming, woodctting, etc, etc should be done in real time. If it can't be done in real time it shouldn't be added to the game.

Totally agree. Mini-games should only be in specific, non-intrusive activities, they should never interrupt the flow of the game, and they should make sense for the task you're doing. Even if they satisfy all of the above criteria, less is better.
