Skyrim should not be GOTY

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 10:58 am

Great, the first person ever to whine about another person whining about another person whining about a person whining about a person mentioning the patch.

Also, the game was amazing, definitely GOTY candidate. I played about a hundred and twenty hours or so and barely got any glitches. Nothing too bad either, so it's stable as hell compared to most games this size. Now the patch on the other hand...

Great, the first person ever to whine about another person whining about another person whining about another person whining about a person whining about a person mentioning the patch. :P

Anyway - All games have bugs: Even Minesweeper. The Patch hasn't hurt my gameplay at all: Magic Resistance works normally :)

No need, they're working on it.

It's not exactly a snap of the fingers, and it's just a video game.

Imagine if people on these forums could muster the same amount of outrage over world hunger or the fact that kids die every day in nations where they will never even learn what the inside of a book looks like.

But no, it's a video game that truly inspires any kind of reaction.

+1
Well said.

Its a video game yes something we paid for.

So yes they should fix it.

There is around ten to fifteen thousand people on here maybe twenty thousand by now you think that many could make that kind of reaction.

0/10

The game will be fixed as Bethesda is fairly good about patching their games and the issues with 1.2 will be addressed. People should calm down and save their rage for real issues like global warming and corporate greed.

You think they should just leave bugs alone as well?

GOTY awards are just for the publishers to jack off over. It doesn't measure the quality of a game in any sense. All it measures is journalist's personal preferences, and the number of [censored] who waste their time going to vote, presumably so they can later read an article and feel validated.

Which is probably why MW3 and BF3 will be candidates. Stock standard shooters with pretty colours and lots of fans.

Uncharted 3 deserves GOTY

Skyrim would've, but holy **** it drops in frame rate every second.

People have to stop hating. It's brand freaking new, get over it and wait for future patches. Nothing is perfect.

Honestly I know for a fact that it will get many Goty's but Skyrim is disappointing imo .

Every guild quest was very badly made and tried to rush you to the end for the infinite quests which are lame, I had to do the same contract 3 times in a row for the dark brotherhood. The only guild that was good was the thieves but it also had many flaws.

This game had one of the worst endings I've ever seen,It was INCREDIBLY unsatisfying and it left me thinking "That's It?"

But what I find very good is the variation in dungeons, I never feel like I'm in the same one like I did in Oblivion. I find it more fun to just explore without doing any quests and I can walk around for hours aimlessly.

Combat has also been improved a lot it actually feels like I'm hitting the target instead of poking it.

Even with all of its flaws Skyrim is a very good game and I'll still play it for awhile just not GOTY worthy imo compared to Portal 2,Batman,GOW3,Uncharted 3, etc... Hopefully Bethesda improves the story and gameplay with DLC's, then I will be impressed.

Who said that "We are not what determines who game of the year is."

We are exactly who determines what the GOTY is... (Except if some random company has thier own GOTY award. But who cares what a random company thinks a GOTY is?)

If this is the best that the year has to offer... There are 50%, at least, who are severely bugged and or crippled by this game. That is going to take a miracle to make this years GOTY, and by next year... who will care.

Fortunately, GOTY is NOT, "Game of the year, for people who can actually run it, and ignore those who don't vote for it, and vote negatively. Sales only."

Fortunately, GOTY is... "Game of the year, for those who played it, voted for it, and said it was better than any other game for that year. Sales, plus returns."

However, I digress...

Skyrim, WILL NOT be GOTY for this year... One month of sales and playing will not even quallify the game for GOTY. GOTM (Game of the month, possibly.) As for next year... I am sure this game will crop a whole new breed of fair competition that will surpass this game. That will not be that difficult. The DLC alone, and possibly offline mods will not be enough to rekindle the remaining players. Once played through, the world has no more unique content, unless you create it. If the game was constantly expanding, or dynamic (not just random)... That would hold the interest of what everyone expected. But it is none of that. It is only beautiful to look at, and ok to play. If it runs for you at all.

So...it shouldn't be game of the year because it doesn't work for you? What a spoiled brat. Grow up.

Yes, you nailed it... I am the ONLY one it isn't working for... me an the 150,000 others who are not playing it now on steam.

So it should be GOTY, just because it works for you? Ignore all the people who died in car crashes.. the people alive say it is a great car... Car of the year goes to .... The surviving owners of ________ car.

Yes, how can something be "Great" if it isn't functioning... Majority determines GOTY, not the dozen people who's systems it works flawlessly on...

That is like saying "Broccoli-chocolate-pudding" shold be #1, because you like it... forget the others who don't... they are wrong and just upset that it doesn't taste like candy.

First of all... you put over 100 hours into the game. I think that speaks for itself... GOTY all the way, if a hater puts that much time into it... well... i rest my case.

You know it leads the majority of fan voting and review sites for Game of the Year award? just a heads up.

It's my game of they year and is leading in polls all over the interwebs. I really didn't think Skyrim would be able to take the number 1 spot from Dark Souls for me because Dark Souls is a masterpiece but Skyrim took it to the next level fro TES. Is it without faults? No. But it is simply incredible. GOTY!

No, that is steam continuing to count hours even after the game crashes. Actual playing time, not reloading, for me, is less than that.

Most of my time "playing" is sitting in the first section, wailing on the guy who keeps telling me to search for armor...

Once the game launched, I put over 100 played hours... Since 1.2 patch... it doesn't run more than five minutes, if it runs at all. I can stand still and crash. I have loaded, reloaded, tested every save... and that took many many hours just waiting for crashes. (I also have multiple cheracters and profiles and computers... What does that have to do with the price of tea in china? Hours played does not reflect enjoyment. If steam had accurate statistics, it would show nearly 300 hours of testing I have done. But that is hardly the case with steam, or this game.)

Users went from 270,000 on day one... down to 250,000 on day two-three... patch-steam came out DRM and it fell down to 200,000... then patch 1.2 came out.. and it has been steady at 105,000 daily players... The numbers speak for themselves... Either everyone is done, and no new people are buying it... or they can't run it. (They being 50% of the PC users.) The 150,000 missing people... which is not counting the ... 250,000 new people who apparently can't get it to run now.

I have to agree with Skyrim not deserving GOTY. It's good but not great. Enjoyable but very frustrating at times. Horribly balanced. Streamlined.

it is so unfortunate that these problems have taken place. I am close to ditching the game entirely, i fortunately havent seen the backward dragon. While amusing the first time, when the game gets broke, it just ruins the experience of the entertainment. Sort of like walking into a much anticipated movie only to hear someone on the way out say, "And so she killed him, i didnt see that coming"

Battlefield 3 will get goty. It's finished, polished, and works beautifully.

Skyrim is a fantastic game, but it is far from goty... much less 'best game ever'.

Skyrim should be a very strong candidate for Game of the Year - for 2012 - assuming they FINALLY get the bugs out!

:flamethrower: They're disqualified from 2011 GOTY
