Skyrim Spanish coverage thread

Post » Mon Dec 27, 2010 4:43 am

Just got my hands on it (Micromania magazine) :D

Some it it we already know so I avoided posting some of the info for that reason.

-they talk about dynamic snow that's you'll see falling on the terrain and accumulate (yes, they said accumulate)

-dragons are scary, the earth trembles when they land

-it has a lot of dynamic scenery elements: moving plant life (probably in the wind lol), flowers you can pick, animals running around, rapid waters with fish jumping out of them

-they praise the immersion that Beth achieved through stuff like AI, graphics, dynamic environments, interface

-map the size of Cyrodiil with 5, and I quote, "really big" citties, 24-25 smaller settlements and about 120 dungeons.

-they refer to wolves as "skeevers", they also mention "dragon priests"

-combat is way more tactical

-cities will be more alive thanks to the AI

-they talk about while talking to people a dragon might attack and you'll see them running for cover and guards running to their posts

Article also includes a new image with one dragon at the top of a pillar (not the one from the GI article!). My personal opinion: dragons look effing awesome!

EDIT

-they talk about potion/poison making and enchanting (crafting basically) as if you'll only be able to do it in towns.

-they talk about combat and they say combine everything and experiment to see it's results (they speak of this in general terms, not referring to spell combos specifically so don't get your hopes up just yet), they also mention equipping the same spell twice and using both hands at the same time to cast it.

-the unique moves of each weapon and unique special FX of each spell make combat spectacular and vibrant

-game world adapts to your playing style

There's also a pretty awesome artwork of a viking dude standing on top of a rock with a weapon in each hand (dagger and sword) looking very menacing. It looks like he's standing next to a mammoth or at least something that has two horns, the creature can't be seen only the horn things and it looks like it's fallen judgind by the position of the horns/tusks as if the dude killed it (he looks pretty roughed up).

Sounds good so far! Thanks for sharing this!

The only thing I worry about is "map the size of Cyrodiil"...
I thought Oblivion was way too small to feel huge. Way to small for huge, majestic mountains and valleys to be there.
You can most likely say good-bye to landscapes like... http://www.ozoneeleven.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Mountain_Valley_1600-x-1200.jpg, http://www.cpawsbc.org/files/athead_Valley_from_Global_TV_helicopter_ride.jpg, http://www.naturewalls.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/beautiful_nature_in_the_mountains_wallpaper.jpg, http://www.wallpaperpimper.com/wallpaper/Landscape/Landscape/Valley-Vista-1-RP6ONRV6I8-1600x1200.jpg and http://2.bp.blogspot.com/__mMx7lCefGY/SxEn5CGyUAI/AAAAAAAAAvU/6w8jUlJmrTY/s1600/North+Klondike+River+Valley.png.
If landscapes like that would be in Skyrim... it would never fit. Any of those landscapes in the pictures would pretty much take up half the map/world space or even more. If landscapes like that would be in Skyrim; they would have to be greatly reduced in scale, which I think would remove their whole "greatness" and "epicness".

And Oblivion felt really http://s2.n4g.com/media/11/newssi/15000/18861_0_org.jpg. I fear for the same feeling.

Oblivion was 41 square kilometers. I'd like something around 70-100 :)
That would be ideal to me.

Combined with this really amazing new draw distance, the world would perhaps feel even smaller? :(

in the italian magazine "skeevers" are mentioned as "frost rats"

edit: thank you for the new info!
I like the "dragons can attack while you are talking to people" part :P

They quoted what Todd said when they mentioned that. Didn't OB ahve more dungeons? Maybe reducing the number will make it feel less cramped.

There was something about combining spells that I forgot to write about I think.

Are you sure it's new images?
Check out p. 47 from the GI-magazine.

There's a dragon on a stone pillar there... shouting.

I thought Oblivion was way too small to feel huge. Way to small for huge, majestic mountains and valleys to be there.

I think the "problem" is the draw distance - it's another reason I actually prefer to play Morrowind without MGE: it suddenly feels much smaller when you can see the whole island. Morrowind, of course, was dominated by a huge mountain, but a lot of its explorable area was inaccessible to the player - simply making it difficult and time-consuming to cross made it feel a lot better.

If memory serves me correctly, Oblivion was more-or-less the same size as Morrowind, but it just felt smaller because of how far you could see. Even walking from Leyawiin to the Imperial City was time-consuming, so it was obviously a fair distance.

From what I've read on sources throughout the Internet, it seems that Oblivion was 41 square kilometers, and Morrowind about 26 square kilometers.

The reason Morrowind felt bigger, is according to me:

- Draw distance was much much much smaller as you said.
- The speed of the character was a lot slower
- There were small mountains (or rather big hills, hehe :P) everywhere, often forcing you to run zigzag.
- The landscape was a lot more unique and varied, so wherever you went you felt like you hadn't been there before.

In any case, I really think that, with today's standards, Skyrim should be bigger than about 41 square kilometers...
Most other games actually are.
But then again Skyrim has more dungeons, quests, and such. I think it's a lot detailed, which is good.
But... still. It hurts a little that it's the same size as Oblivion. I was hoping for 70-100 square kilometers.

Yes, one of the pictures is the very same. But the other one is new., or at least I didn't see it till now. The dragon is in a different pose and it's taken from a different angle. Looks pretty damn cool! Updated the first Post with a few more bits I forgot to mention (after the EDIT).

Awesome! Thanks for the info! It gives us hope that there are more screenies waiting there! :D
Is it a "screenshot" btw and not a concept art work?

Hey btw, the art work you saw of the viking. It's not this is it, right? (Doesn't sound like it, but one can never be too sure :P) http://media1.gameinformer.com/imagefeed/featured/bethesda/elderscrolls/elderscrollsv/bear610ed.jpg

Sweet. Thanks for the post. Enchanting and alchemy in towns only, that makes a lot of sense. Individual attacks, spell effects, Yay!

Have you posted the most concrete details in there? This is not a criticism of you, but apart from the bit about crafting/enchanting needing to be done in town, it basically sounds like what they've said is "combat, graphics, AI, etc. are better". It's just fairly vague superlatives like "tactical", "alive", "immersive" which aren't very informative.

How in gods name did they fit all that into that size of a map? I mean the towns in ob with rather large chunks of the map and they were compresed to high heck to fit.

It's probably a reference to Radiant Story.

Everything sounds pretty good this time, with the exception of the world size (I'm with hlvr; I was hoping for a really gigantic map).
