Skyrim special edition performance?

Post » Thu Jul 07, 2016 1:00 pm

The lack of specific details on load times and fps is very agitating. What are the improvements to load times in this game vs PS3 and Xbox 360?Why hasn't Bethesda been more transparent about these details?I know Bethesda said they were improving the performance, but was very vague other then the info about it being 1080p and emb with 64bit.As a console gamer I'm more interested in load times and fps.Load times in PS3 for me got unbearable.Any info and opinions are appreciated.Dissclaimer ideas expressed by op are simple personal opinions of the game and not necessarily fact.obvously.lol.

It is not confirmed news but some reviewers from the trailer calculated the image resolution and that sort of thing to determine the resolution and target frame rate. digital foundry did it i think i don't know what tools or software they use to determine this but they have been doing this thing for many games and they were accurate on all of the occasions. PS4 runs on 1080p 30fps and xbox runs on their dynamic resolution thing to keep 30fps in check. you can go to their youtube channel for more info or you can google those articles on internet.

Currently, the performance looks pretty underwhelming tbh.

This is Bethesda we're talking about, the load times will inevitably be atrocious.

And keep a save file from just before or after the executioner at Helgen at the start of the game. You'll need that save to load any bloated save files. Trust me, it helped a lot in Skyrim last gen.

I can't control it so I'm not going to worry about it.

I'd say you are correct. People should keep in mind that while the current console generation performs much better than previous one, it's not particulary powerful in general. Furthermore, the SSE has much improved graphics, lighting, shaders, etc. which will come with a performance cost. Overall even the 30 fps is not going to be guaranteed.

It'll use the same engine as Fallout 4 (64-bit) and from what I've seen will have roughly the same system requirements, so expect performance roughly to be the same

So, we should be seeing a lot of patches then?

I mean, Fallout 4 runs better than any other previous Bethesda game on consoles, but that's still pretty... >_>

Warframe, which is free, runs butter smooth by comparison.

Well....I will tell you this

Xbox 360 Skyrim is 720 p....and when played on a big tv screen (65) looks like porridge and its so laggy that panning looks the same as the real world after about six pints.

Any improvement upon that has to be good.

fallout 4 quality wise looks much better than skyrim remaster and its texture details, resolution and overall effects are much higher than what we saw in trailer of skyrim remaster, remaster is probably using HD texture pack dlc which we got back in 2012 as base textures and they aren't demanding, so no i don't think remaster will be that power hungry. game has lots of bloom and yellow tint to it just like the original game had grey tint to it. i expect lower system requirements than fallout 4.

Here's what I want, performance-wise:

240 fps vsynced, while standing outside Dragonsreach and looking at Riften's stablemaster, changing shoes on my horse. That, or there will be hell!

What are you looking at? I too have my moments :P

I guess that it will be slightly less demanding than Fallout 4. Even though SSE runs on the same engine, the general texture size is much smaller (assuming they are the same size as the HD DLC), and features like PBR have not been implemented as far as I know.

1080p shouldn't really be a problem, at least not for the PS4. Still, I'm convinced that it won't run at 60 fps on consoles. The original game could barely hold 30 fps on my XBOX 360, it even dipped into the low 20s sometimes, and even a new layer of paint can't change some of the optimization issues Skyrim had. But that's just speculation. We will have to see what Bethesda come up with. I wouldn't expect too much in that regard, though.

Unless I'm remembering incorrectly. Todd Howard said that the The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition at least the PC version will have higher textures resolution than the high textures resolution we got back in 2012.

Here are some more details about the game.

It seems it will be 1080p/30fps on consoles.

I am so mixed up about this "improvement"

A lot if it IS great according to the teaser trailers, but what concerns me are the aspects that look like possibly spoiling the game.

Skyrim IS a cold, harsh, pollution free land....Northern Scandinavian regions 'esque, or supposed to be....

But what we see in the remaster footage is a hazy warm 'orangey' environment. It seems to, have lost that gritty, real, bleak and bitterly cold atmosphere. You'll be feeling like removing your chars furs and kitting them in boxers and bikini's at the Skyrim holiday resort.....

What about that pure clean and fresh 'bracing' Skyrim air where on a clear day you can see for miles.....well forget all that because in new Skyrim everything is shrouded in atmospheric mists to show off the new 'god rays' ......which is quite wrong btw....their proper name is "crepuscular rays" I guess the devs decided we couldn't pronounce crepuscular huh!

Spelling aside....the new rays look great bursting through a mist laden forest.....but lose appeal fast if they are also going to be bursting through mist laden Riverwood, the Tundra, Winterhold, Markarth, Riften, etc etc.

There is no extra detail in the new version....we have seen no difference to the real resolution of the cobbles at your feet....we are told. But the lighting can make it appear sharper and better contrasted......but then covered over with a layer of orange fog and probably "god rays".

Dynamic "Depth of Field" Oh dear, no, no, no. Your eyes naturally shift between near and far in normal sight, to "fill in" your vision. So you do not normally notice DoF effects in real life. Only by focusing on a very near object and trying to notice the background do you ever normally get to see DoF effects in real life. However, in new Skyrim, DoF effects means standing near a tree might blur out or 'defocus' the distance which not only looks stupid ( because as explained you do not notice this in real life), but it could mean you fail to see that approaching enemy while they are still safely a little way off. I definitely have this down as a bad move......

Hopefully my impressions from the trailers are wrong. I don't want a warm and pretty South Pacific Skyrim....it SHOULD look cold and harsh. Next thing is Nords in hula skirts.... Ha!

I'm hoping this can be toggled off. Personally I like static DOF (where the extreme far distance is a bit blurred) but I dislike dynamic DOF (which usually tends to alter blurriness in the middle ground as we move the camera an inch to the left or right). The good news is that, if there is no toggle, we will all have mods that can remove the effect.

From what I saw in the trailer it looked like they were running a modded game the orange sky looks suspiciously like Vivid Weathers or even SKGE, and I'm fairly sure I'm using those mushroom textures myself from a mod I can't even remember the name of.

So at a guess, and it is only a guess, I'd say the game as released will be close to vanillla + extra shaders and you'll have to add the rest yourself...

Yesh, but see.....I like the place to look REAL....or as close as we can get.

I don't want it looking like "watercolour paints" or hues from a kiddies crayon set.....its getting too cartoony for my tastes.....Hell...given my top choice I Would opt for "photo realistic".

Giving everything an orange tint (is that what they mean by 'shader'.....photographers call them filters) is a step in the wrong direction and I think just covers up ommissions....

Lets be fatuous for a fun moment here......

We could have the same effect on console play....much cheaper......by just stretching a sheet of orange coloured polyethene over the screen !

The video with the orange sunset was just taken at a different time of day with the sun setting. And with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition being DirectX 11 it will look better than the DirectX 9 version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

It's why it was so orange and the volumetric god rays helped it.

Well if it is a mod then you just use a different mod... I love Vivid Weathers for the most part except for its orange sunsets. And the pink clouds on the mountains which are just... odd. Luckily I know how to mod a mod and currently I'm using a mashup of two separate weather mods (no orange sunsets for me)

Yes, but you see.......for console players there is no guarantee of any mod being available to undo Bethesda's orange paintbox....or toggle off that awful Dynamic Depth of Field blur effect.

Maybe we will get them, but then maybe we won't hmmm!
