The truth is that if you are still able to play and stuff, you are not a "true arachnophobic", just someone who fears spiders

I have really bad arachnophobia to the point where I can't look at an image of a real spider or even be in the same room as a small house spider without having a panic attack, yet the Skyrim spider i've seen a screenshot of really didn't bother me. It doesn't look realistic at all. In fact, I really can't recall playing any game where the spiders were realistic enough to bother me.

Well I am really hyped for skyrim but i am deeply arachnophobic, I assume so but just want to confirm, will there be any "no spider" mods that replace spiders with some other creature? How long after release do you think it will it be until a mod that does that comes out? Or if i were to make it myself, how hard/long would the process be?

That would be an incredibly simple mod to make. Just delete spiders from the actors section on the creation kit (assuming it works the same way as the construction set). When you play the game, it might pop up and say "can't find actor ID blah blah blah", but just click ok, and it shouldn't really be a problem.

Yeah, the picture of it doesn't really bother me, but I look away when i get to the spider part when i watch the trailer, its the whole spiders in motion thing that bothers me.

Won't killing them be that much more satisfying?

If you really can't stand them, then assuming Skyrim has companions, you could just send your bud/slave/pet at it when you spot one.

its like stick someone whos scared of heights on a roof in a game if its believeable it will be very scary

I know that many people feel the same way, I've seen plenty of threads like this. I wouldn't worry too much, this will be one of the first mods to be released.

Are you kidding me? There have been so many of the anti-spider threads on these forums since that picture was shown....

As I said, I can pretty much guarantee there will be a mod to take out spiders.

Personally I am happy to see spiders back

. I hope they can be on the ceilings of caves.

i don't think there will be any spiders in the vanilla version. oblivion had no spiders at all, except for the spider daedra that lived almost exclusively in the realms of oblivion. even they never reminded me of spiders.

So that early picture of the main character fighting a spider was concept art.

Even though i admit it is completely unreasonable to ask the devs to take spiders out of the game, I think it is pointless to put them in.

Spiders are something that will truly prevent arachnaphobic consolites without access to mods from buying the game.

Nobody sees a game and says "damn, no spiders, definately not buying it" but even though it is probably about 1% of the gamer population, there are people that would say "damn, loads of spiders, definately not buying it"

I don't think most people are scared to the point that seeing a spider in a video game scares them.. it's not even in 3D or anything, it won't jump out at you. Now, I dislike spiders greatly in real life (don't [censored] with spiders) but in games, meh. I just see it as the chance to express my hate by cleaving them in half with a sword!

I used to be afraid of flying on planes/heights. Actually, I was afraid of falling off of them. Anyway, I once passed out when my flight took off.

...Not fainted, passed out.

I eventually got over it as I had to travel a lot, and that fear seems silly now. And I'm sure tons of people one this forum alone are afraid of heights and I doubt there's gonna be a mod to put the greybeard temple at sea level.

About that.. you know that weird feeling in your stomach that you get when you go on a roller coaster down a hill, or you're falling? I get that when I jump off a height in video games.. anyone else have that feeling lol or am I just weird?

Yeah I am pretty sure that a No Spiders Mod will be released the first to second day of release. Luckily my fear of harsh winds don't transfer into Video Games.

What about people with Chionophobia (Fear of Snow)? I'm sure there will be a mod out to get rid of spiders, but they won't get rid of it from the vanilla version. There's a phobia for practically everything after all, and they can't cater to everyone's need. :shrug:

Fun fact, nudity mods are made so fast that they actually exceed the speed of light travel back in tome to get released before the game does.

Don't worry bud, I'm sure that there will be a nice amount of mods for this. Make sure you get the PC version though, just in case Bethesda can't figure out how to get mods into the consoles.
