Skyrim Startup Memory Editor for Oblivion

Post » Fri Feb 14, 2014 7:55 am

In my experience, many of the crashes that occurred in a Oblivion were due to memory issues.

After seeing how good of a job http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50305/? mod does to alleviate crashes in Skyrim, I was wondering if it will ever get implemented into Oblivion via a mod or OBSE update (unless it already has and I'm unaware of it, or if it's not possible to make).

http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1486109-wip-oblivion-memory-tweaks/ was released quietly just two weeks ago, seems to do very much the same thing. For me, it seems to work, but I have not really played Oblivion since then (to be honest, nor have I bevore, I merely installed mods and tested them, so far, but since I use the tweak, there have been no CTDs when testing mods, which occasionally happened before).

Thanks!

I was thinking it wasn't possible because Skyrim uses a slightly different engine, but I'm glad to see the biggest problem in the Elder Scrolls games finally get fixed. I wonder if it would work for the Fallout games as well...

There is already a fix available for Fallout New Vegas as well; New Vegas Memory Editor, as a miscellaneous download at http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/53635. It's still experimental however, and it's not yet certain whether or not it has any impact on stability or performance.

As an aside, what I would really like to see is a version of ENBoost for Oblivion, but Boris seems reluctant to implement it. Granted, Oblivion's engine probably has worse problems than texture memory management, but every little bit helps.
