Skyrim - A Step Up? Or a Step Down?

Thanks for warning me, I vaguely remembered there was a catch to the Grey Prince's quest. I'll be nice and send him to his death with his self-respect intact :)

I agree that every game felt like a slow progression, even if we lost some valued features in the process, the overall experience always felt smoother. Having said that, I can't actually imagine the game being simplified any further... I think if Bethesda chooses to streamline more features for the next game, it will need to be balanced by increasing the complexity in other ways, which I'm sure they will.

Morrowind was achingly beautiful. I still think about the towns and landscapes now: Sadrith Mora, Balmora, Vivec, Aldruhn were all so evocative in their different ways. Ok, I hated Vivec, but it was still evocative.

I agree with some of what you say but I feel that they should keep health regen yet make it so slow that it would only be a post battle way to recover health without potions, spells, etc. I should be able to sit and rest a bit after battle with my warrior to recover his health yet I agree at the pace it increases during battle ruins much of the experience. Perhaps they'll take note of this next time.

Don't mention it, I tried to be a bit vague as to not spoil how to go about it and I agree it's weak to do him dirty, I prefer to help him die with dignity in a fair fight.

Hopefully they won't simplify/streamline things any more then they have already or else in their attempt to draw in new fans they will lose the die hard fans of old. Skyrim is almost a good balance yet certain things need adjusting for next time.

I don't think it should be removed, but I don't think it should be free either. If got out of combat, you're not Wolverine, you should still be hurt. You rest, you recover stamina. After a fight you should be able to regain your stamina as you would after a 100 meter race but if you're hurt after getting beaten to a pulp you should not be back to normal within a minute. That is why alchemy, restoration, recipes, that ring you received, that stone you chose would get value. That is why this ring http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/regenerator-s-ring is awesome (also overpowered). But you compromised. You gave up a ring slot. That's why this shield http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/adjudicator-s-shield is also valuable. If Demon Souls had free health regen there would be no reason to give up a ring slot or to have a heavy wooden shield that doesn't block 100% physical damage. Not having free health regen alone would make health regen potions worth having in your inventory, worth making horker stew and having it in your inventory.

ha I hear you about Wolverine but this is a fantasy world game. I understand what you're saying but I feel that a few cuts in battle shouldn't weaken my seasoned warrior for the next fight waiting on the other side of the hill and the stews and brews should be a mid battle way of recharging even though it's highly unrealistic...it was pointed out in this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LZhsstWPe8.

Mostly a step up but :D could have used a better magic system when it comes to things like destruction. Attributes are also starting to get missed as I play SKYRIM through the passing of years. It would also have been great to see enemies react to things like getting set on fire instead of just wailing away with their weapons as if they are doped up on some sort of battle narcotic numbing their senses.

I just started using magic today with my mostly melee character and the magic just seemed off when it came to destruction. I do have a lot of fun with enchantment and conjuration. Alchemy is nice but not being able to do it anywhere as long as I have a mortar etc like in OBLIVION feels disconnecting.

The console style ui is a pain to use especially when switching weapons and doing things like magic. Would have been nice to have a pc oriented ui. I still think the best ui for the Elder Scrolls was the one they used in MORROWIND where you could move everything around along with resizing it as well as the great inventory doll to see ones character while equipping them.

Would also be nice if the difficulty slider was improved in some way. Maybe multiple sliders that only show up in the options for each creature when they are discovered then the player can decide just how tough each one is instead of going back resetting the difficulty for each enemy.

Once I got over my personal dislike of Medieval fantasy games, as a first time player of ES series, Skyrim is definately a step up for me compared to indulging in the Fallout 3/NV & FarCry worlds of years gone by..... all the combat oriented magic in this game is just a substitute for the principle of FPS mechanics imo.. but by and large, still a fantastic game apart from the structure and options in some quest lines.

Would of been cool if you could join the Aldmeri Dominion. Whenever I am a High Elf I always feel like I should be with the Aldmeri Dominion, but all I could do is wear their armor.... Even as a Khajiit I would rather join them than Stormcloaks or the Imperial Legion.

I get that in the main story the Thalmor are an enemy, but since it is an open world rpg a lot of the choices you make on the side should sometimes effect the main story. That would be the ultimate experience imo. But would the Thalmor accept a dragonborn into their ranks though? That's something I'd like to know.

Since they don't want Talos worship going on I doubt they would accept the Dragonborn just on the fact that he could become another mortal transformed into a god.
