Meh. All that info will be free online - no need to pay another ~$20 for it.

Skyrim will also be online, that′s not a reason...

While it would be interesting to read the little tidbits the guide may contain, I know human nature. I would get caught up on a tricky quest, curious whats behind that 100 lock door, etc and peak at the guide, just once!
Knowing bethesda's past most of the hardest locks wont be worth building my skills up and revisiting, but if I have the guide ill know its true and start ruining the immersion and mystery.

No they haven't said the map is cloth. The preorder map is burlap paper. It's a thicker paper, and high quality, but definitely not cloth.

I knew it was to good to be true when I first pre ordered. They told me it was cloth and then they said they were wrong and in fact it was paper. Oh well still a map. I want the guide just for my collection. I have a few guides and some are actually still in plastic.

You have entire community making guides, why would you need to buy one? It is pointless. Just wait for a couple of days, enjoy the game and guides will be out. Simple as that.

This has not been my experience. If one looks at UESP today, it has tons of info on Oblivion, but that's due to how long it has been out.

I generally find that while info starts to trickle in after a few days, it's rare that the info I am currently interested in is published yet. After a month or so the info is semi complete, but that's a month too late for me;)

What I like about the guides is that it tells me things other folks won't know and it does so on day one. Things like the pros and cons of taking various perks, strategies for role playing various character types successfully and just tons of other stuff. I generally try to get the strat guides for BGS games a few days before the game releases so I can be up to speed on the basics, got my tips and early game strategies, have a solid understanding of getting the most from the crafting skills etc.

To collect. It is tempting to peek but i usually do not. It totally ruins the game when you look. I just couldn't refuse the special edition for 13.99. I actually have a safe in my house, it sounds ridiculous but I lock it in there and don't touch it until l beat the game then I browse.

I never use guides myself until I have seen most of what the game offers, so I know what you mean.

But seriously, a safe? :D

I owned the guides for MW and OB and they were a total waste. Any help I needed I got from the Wiki or Forum.

My son does plan in getting it as he's being deployed to the Mid-East the end of October and will not be able to play the game until sometime late next year. He figures it will give him something to read and he will be an expert at the game by the time he comes back.

But isn't it so much more fun to find those secrets and easter eggs yourself, than to have a book tell you about them?

Yes agree with this.

Oh lord lol. It's a safe for money and documents. I put it in there just because in my head if it's behind a locked door a feel I won't look at it. Plus it's a huge 1000 pound safe so I fit all kinds of things in there. Also I'll admit it makes me feel like its some secret book and it has all the answer in it, which it does lol, it's like I'm protecting something sacred. Believe me I get enough from my fiancé about it. She is always like why the heck is this in the safe. I have things that are worth money but something as cheap as a guide makes her a little like ooookkkkk...
