Skyrim style leveling

Is there a mod for Morrowind that changes the leveling system to be more like skyrim, where your skills just advance as you play, with no major/minor skills and no maximizing to get +5s?

It seems like a fairly intuitive system so I figured maybe someone had already done something similar to it :D

It greatly simplfies the way leveling is done and I can see it improves gameplay smoothness some. That said I think its too much of a simplification. But yea, I agree with above, you may wish to give it a bit of time before asking for mods on it. I am sure that no one on the planet who isnt a developer has even beaten it yet.

To be honest, I don't see the point why the TES5 leveling system should be "better". It reduce the possibilities of an individual leveling to a minimum. The only choice the player still has is magicka, health or endurance plus the perks...no influence on Luck, Charisma, Strength or Agility anymore. Personally I dislike this kind of simplification in a roleplay context, but it's a matter of taste.

Yes, five or six years ago in fact: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=2030. Not precisely the same, but a similar idea. Of course, I will be hoping for something that does the opposite for Skyrim. *chuckle*

I didn't totally like some things about GCD, but I do like the smoothness, and not having to think about the multipliers. It's definitely worth a look for anyone who isn't satisfied with the standard system.

I must be one of the few that actually liked the multipliers - they always feel like a mini game to me - one I like to win :) Though they were more important to me with playing Oblivion on the 360.

Try Levelling mod. Created by Balor. It's "simple", automatic, is not very intrusive and most interesting, all you learn can be forgotten over time. So it's better to focus on climbing the most important skills of your character.

I second that.

While we are on the topic of Skyrim style mods, who fancies doing one based on the weapon creation and upgrade system?

I must say I prefer the original MW skills and system far over Skyrims, in MW you can see all skills at once, in Skyrim only a few, though the graphics are nice the content is much less than its predecessors.

Morrowind all the way....

They should preserve old advancement system (along with attrubutes, just make them usable goddamnit) + perks, now that would be something

I was actually working on something like that a long time ago, but it never got too far. The sticky point was how to display a list of perks to choose from. The best I could come up with was making them show up as items in your inventory, but it didn't work smoothly which made the whole thing kinda strange.

well i did a search on PES and came up with http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7847. I remember using it once before and thought it worked well but i don't remember, but perhaps it could help someone else get a perks system going? my only idea on this would be to create another screen like the leveling screens that you could choose perks off of...although i don't think that's actually possible :(

Seems the only way to do something like this really smoothly would be to add it in to one of the engine remakes going on(either Aedra or ProjectMW)

Alot of the perks were either bonuses or allowed you to do something(like make certain armor). What would need to be done is that after each leveling took place, a pop up box "menu" appears that askes you what you would like to do, and then you would have choices to choose from. After you have made these, they would then be applied to your character as bonuses in the form of permanent enchantments, sorta like Almalexia gives you. It would take a bit of scripting and testing to work out the choices and how things would flow, but it could be done.

Yeah. About the only options for unmodified Morrowind are either inventory like I used, or spells. I guess doing it entirely from pop-up message boxes or dialog are technically possible too, but neither sounds very appealing. Or some kind of hybrid system might be viable, but none of that is going to feel totally natural.

Personally I'm not one to care if the implementation is a little funky, but it does have to work smoothly.

Well, there doesnt have to be a whole range of choices, even just picking options according to what attribute you increased would be good, this would limit it to 3 and then the sub options under that. I am not sure how well going back to look at the other options would work or anything.

well that was a problem the mod i linked had, was there wasn't a lot of variety. if you look at the comments that was the main complaint that plagued it. people want the option to be able to have a say as to what perks they can get no matter what option they choose.

perhaps what should be done is that mod could be expanded upon to where it provides the player with a list of available perks for that level on top of the choices that are left over, similar to what fallout 3 did. No i'm not a big fan of a big message box of perks, but its not like we can create a menu like what we get for the leveling screen, although that would be the ideal way of doing this imo, but since this is Mw and it is a 9+ yr old game, we have to use what we're given. honestly a CE ability like what we are given by birthsigns and the 3 gods would be the best way to have a perk, any upgrades would probably have to be scripted to remove the current level and replace it.

lol idk im just rambling

Solutions that add perks and elimination of the multiplier problems from the game are the ones I've found linked below (though I don't think they're quite the same style as Skyrim):

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=7429

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=6351

Maybe these might be up your alley, depending on personal tastes you would have for the gaming style.
