Skyrim or Summerset Isle

Post » Fri Dec 11, 2009 6:27 am

I dunno. Skyrim would be cool because of the whole Thu'um thing, but Summerset Isle would be amazing. Especially if we got to visit Thras in an expansion (please?) or something.

I think argonia is out since its mostly a giant poisonous swamp that anyone but argonians could live in.

but its still awesome. im a fan of reptiles; not about to let a bunch of you nords stand in the way of that. ill let beth stand in the way of it though; but thats just for tes.

and its inhabitable if you have 100% resist disease, and maybe some bug spray.

I'd rather see Elsweyr, but that's not on the poll. Still, any game that takes place elsewhere would be nice.

Well played, sir.

Between the two, my choice would be Skyrim. However, Elsweyr would be my overall pick as well.

Either would be fine with me, but I voted Summerset Isle, only because we've already done the snow/Nord thing with Solstheim and Bruma (and surroundings).

I said this quite a few times already but i'd like to see:

Valenwood + Elsweyr together. Advantages, VERY varied landscapes (Forests, plains, grasslands, deserts, canyons, coasts, swamps...) and two totally different political and cultural settings. Plus you'd get a very long coastline making ship travel services more "likely" again.
Size wise it's no problem, with Oblivions scale both together are about the same size as Cyrodiil was and the scale can be turned up again at any time (something i'd actually hope for).

Of the two poll choices i'd have to say i lean more towards Summerset Island as i hate cold climate settings, but if they'd do it REALLY good Skyrim would be a good setting too. They just have to beward to NOT make it "Solstheim x 100" and NOT all "cold climate" (NOTE, cold climate and "snow and ice" are NOT the same thing, cold climate means you feel like you have to wear a coat 24/7 or you freeze).

This , if TESV isn't this then the sixth one should be .

I want neither of them. Despite everyone saying that it can be so much more, and indeed, the fact that I agree, I expect that, if the next game were set in Skyrim, Bethesda would make it into Boring Ice and Snow Land. Now, I don't mind ice and snow, I liked Bloodmoon quite a bit, and it had a fair bit of ice and snow. But when the entire game looks like Solstheim or the Jerall Mountains, it's going to get boring at some point. Plus, the Nords are probably one of the more boring races in the game, not that you can fault them for it. When your world is full of magic and lizard men, Not-Vikings are going to seem mundane by comparison, even if they've been known to use magic voice powers. And Summerset Isle? It's full of elves, that's reason enough for me to not want to go there. Morrowind gave us enough elves already, and while I tend to dislike Dunmer as people, at least they had some fairly interesting culture there, Altmer, I expect, on the other hand, would just be your generic high elves, except more yellow.

I'd rather see Elsweyr, but that's not on the poll. Still, any game that takes place elsewhere would be nice.

I too would like to see the game set in Elsweyr. But that might just be because my last name is Elsbury. I have always longed to visit Elsweyr...

Um are you well thinking of the other systems ? We won't have a TES like that for a while.

obviously. tes doesnt grow on trees... (quickly grabs oblivion and buries it in the ground, and waters it every day)

[40 years later]

omg a tes tree!

Honestly i prefer Skyrim, Seening as how Skyrim was home of the Nordish race, Skyrim is one of the largest continent on the world of Tamriel, and Summerset Isle is probably 3x times bigger than Solstheim {Blood Moon Expansion}. Seeing as how Summerset Isle is meager well i would tag them together. {Add Summerset Isle as an Expanison in a way}

The only problem here is that I think the engine and computer systems still aren't powerful enough to do the Summerset Isles justice. Large, sprawling metropolises and wide open Mediterranean-esque coasts. I mean, Cyrodiil was supposed to be a rain forest, and regardless of Bethesda's intentions, I don't think a particularly decent implementation of a rainforest could've been done in 2006. Without grinding everybody's computers to a halt, that is.

Skyrim, however, has plenty of clever ways of helping the engine's non-existent render culling (PLEASE OH PLEASE USE UMBRA ALREADY!) by means of fog, blizzards, mountains, deep valleys, et cetera.

FarCry did a pretty good job on jungle feeling.

And i doubt it was the technological limitations, it was more the "are we really going to put that much work into it" limitation. A "european" (and i DO put that in quotes as it loks NOTHING like a european landscape) environment was just easier to design, plus more realted to Lord of the Rings, easier to bait non TES fans into it.

That's why i have my worries with Skyrim as a setting, they can easily say "lets do lots of snow with axe wielding vikings in it" and done not even taking a single look at possible examples like skandinavia. And even then I'd rather see them try something original and not just go for "Nord = Vikings", the did try something unusual with Morrowind, why can't they do it again?

Completely overdone topic. At the very least it has been made dozens of times. And the preferred province is still Skyrim. But it doesn't matter. It is going to take years until we get another ES game.
For the time being, I am going to buy Dragon Age: Origins and focus on that for a bit of time

I don't really know what I am expecting from Skyrim and Summerset Isle because I am all about the beauty of Nirn and I have never seen them in Morrowind/Oblivion Graphics. I am just hoping if I'm stuck in a snowstorm , I want to be able to see some Green Trees and Blue Water :). Summerset Isle sounds so enchanting and mystical. Skyrim sounds so Epic and Large. So I am in the middle.

Neither, as I'd prefer it be Elsweyr. Anywhere.

I would like Summerset Isle but from what I've read about it the game engine for that TES game would have to wait for the next gen of systems. Unless the engine that Bethesda uses gets much much better.

It doesnt really matter to me so long as they make another one. :intergalactic: But the way I see it IMO its likely to be in Summerset Isle just cause if (im sure this has been said alot of times) you hear round OB then they say"Deadra worship has been increasingly common in Summerset Isle" then other guy says something like "I wouldnt want to live there."

They have in-game rumors w/ potential plot hooks attached to every province, though. :)

Actually, when I looked at a list of rumours in the construction set, there were a few that weren't mentioned, Hammerfell being one of them.

Hm, now I think of it, you're right.

Hammerfell never gets mentioned, nor does High Rock or Valenwood from what I remember.
Morrowind gets retroactive lip-service via rumors about Vehk, Redoran, and the Daedra.
Black Marsh gets stories about how the Argonians are holding their own against Dagon's footsoldiers.
I recall rumors about the Skooma trade and Elsweyr.
Skyrim gets at least one rumor about the Greybeards speaking again, which is pretty huge.
Summerset gets the increased Daedra worship rumors and the wizards sponsoring an Imperial boycott.

I think that Valenwood does get mentioned, something about 'Y'frre the forest god returning with gifts for his people'.
