Hi,

i bough a new win 8.1 PC. I installed Steam on my E Drive. All works fine, but ingame there are sounds missing.

But only Weaponsounds (Equipping Sword, shooting with bow...) and maybe the crys are also missing.

I googeld and found fixes, but they all dont work:

I reinstalled everything.

I installed all things from the skyrim folder (DXSetup, vcredist, dotnetfx).

I set the sound to a lower frequense in the settings of windows.

I tried to install directX from microsoft, but it says that a newer version is installed.

I started a new savegame.

I updated all drivers!

I havent mods!

On my old PC all works fine!

You probably don't have the same Codec mix on your new rig. Get something like the K-Lite Codec pack and see if that resolved this issue. Also, make sure FFDShow is not running.

Download the DirectX files from here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/4/A/84A35BF1-DAFE-4AE8-82AF-AD2AE20B6B14/directx_Jun2010_redist.exe

Extract to any folder like C:\eee, Install DXSETUP.exe (right click - run as administrator) (Works, perfectly without asking anything...just tried out)
