V.A.T.S. In Skyrim?

Post » Wed Mar 17, 2010 2:13 am

hardcoe mode: Yes.
Perks: ehhhhh maybe. If implemented well.
VATS: NO.

That's my spectrum for things to take or not take from Fallout.

Maybe a time slowing spell, but thats it, I just don't think a VATS type system lends itself to TES gameplay

With a targeting system for magic and arrows unlocked as a skill-level perk. You could even have a Greater Power called Divine Guidance that you can only use once a day that guarantees a 100% hit with either destruction or arrows.

Some sort of VATS or targeting system would be very cool for ranged characters. The "VATS Points" could be given out at level ups. The higher your level the more "AP" points. Then against you could just add the cinematic camera shot after you kill an enemy. I just like the "pause and play" aspect of VATS. We obviously wont get it since every ES game has been full real-time only.

ABSOLUTELY NOT have any clue what you're talking about. But people are shouting, and I'm a bit of a joiner.

I LOL'ed. Best post of the week.

About VATS in Skyrim, well... I'm not opposed to the idea. It would have to be a heavily tweaked system, though. And it should work basically with a few weapons - bows and crossbows being the prime example. But there is a chance that the whole thing would become a big fail, so it would have to be really good and well-thought.

I understand that V.A.T.S. was quite gory, and you can't disable gore in Fallout 3 without mods. I don't want gore unless I can turn it off, so no.

If it's a more advanced combat system that doesn't necessarily require gore I wouldn't mind though.

I would rather be shot prefably not a Shotgun

I think its rather stupid even considering adding Vats to TES its a lovely mechanic in Fallout but not really in oblivion

P.S I have been on the forum for 14 hours and for some reason when I think and i'm reading of my post the voice is that of the guy from the Mass Effect 3 trailer its very very werid

I think the idea of VATS or anything like it in TES is stupid. But I did like when the camera zoomed in and went into slow motion when you landed the killing blow sometimes in Fallout New Vegas in real-time combat. I'd like this in Skyrim. I like the idea of lurking in the shadows between the trees on a frosty night, unleashing an arrow into the air and watching as the camera follows it through the air in slow motion as it gracefully buries itself into the neck of a bear. But as for an actual game-pausing, statistics-based combat system? No thanks...

I voted No. At first I thought it would be cool and nice to have, but that is what Fallout 3 and New Vegas is for. It's a different game. Why have it in a TES game. First it was Oblivion with guns, now it's Fallout with magic? Let's keep them seperate. Other wise we are basically playing the same game over and over again, and then Both the TES and Fallout series will become boring and stale.

Yes I would love it, if handled properly because it would make the fights more dramatic if the camera could switch to third person and slow motion. The could call it "Martial Trance" (like in Dwarf Fortress) or something similar.

Keep your Fallout out of my TES V! (I enjoyed VATS for FO3.... but not for my beloved ES.) How dare you speak such heresy?

he's a witch! burn him!

B: So. Why do witches burn?

(long silence)
(shuffling of feet by the villagers)

Villager: (tentatively) Because they're made of.....wood?
B: Goooood!
Other Villagers: oh yeah... oh....
B: So. How do we tell whether she is made of wood?
One Villager: Build a bridge out of 'er!
B: Aah. But can you not also make bridges out of stone?
Villagers: oh yeah. oh. umm...
B: Does wood sink in water?
One Villager: No! No, no, it floats!
Other Villager: Throw her into the pond!
Villagers: yaaaaaa!

(when order is restored)

B: What also floats in water?
Villager: Bread!
Another Villager: Apples!
Another Villager: Uh...very small rocks!
Another Villager: Cider!
Another Villager: Uh...great gravy!
Another Villager: Cherries!
Another Villager: Mud!
Another Villager: Churches! Churches!
Another Villager: Lead! Lead!
King Arthur: A Duck!
Villagers: (in amazement) ooooooh!
B: exACTly!
B: (to a villager) So, *logically*...
Villager: (very slowly, with pauses between each word)
If...she...weighs the same as a duck......she's made of wood.
B: and therefore...

(pause)

Villager: A Witch!
All Villagers: A WITCH!

VATS in Skyrim would be a terrible idea it makes bad players look good. I mean look at all the Fallout Players complaining about it hell even they don't like it. Trust me I wanna work hard for that Boss Chest not have oh I press button perform hammer of dawn with my sword and then I get the Ring Of Perfection in that chest when I normally would have been killed.

EDIT 2: I changed the wording of the poll question because everybody's being so sensitive.
NOTE: I am first and foremost an Elder Scrolls fan. I love the series and consider Oblivion my favorite game of all time. Although I enjoyed Fallout 3, I am NOT a Fallout fanatic... I've never even played New Vegas...
EDIT 3: I reworded the poll question a third time for better clarity.
NOTE 2: I know what V.A.T.S. stands for. I know it's exclusive to the Fallout universe. I'm asking if you'd like to see something similar. Sorry for the misleading title...

Some people on these forums got their nostalgic feelings so far up their own bums that they can not comprehend the fact that the Fallout universe can even be mentioned in the same sentence as Elder Scrolls. This is sad, since polls and questions like the ones in this thread gets shunned by the majority of the nerd herd. Then everyone and their mother hop on the bandwagon instead of trying to think outside the box. It's a shame really.

Well, what can you do..? :)

Edit: I voted Yes on the poll just to try to balance average Joe and his beliefs that the product and franchise of a company can be referred to as his aslong as he bought the game.

What'ya mean with "Get Fallout out of my Elder Scrolls lol!" anyway, they are both two great and unique products which could if smoothly implented make a great game if one borrowed ideas and such from both worlds.
Now, no one will agree with me (or next to no one anyway) since it's treason and heresy to even think such a thing. Well I got my shield enchanted with flame resistant so bring it on! :P

I think the mistake was calling this thread "VATS in Skyrim?" instead of "Optional Dramatic Third-Person Slow-Motion Battle System in Skyrim?", which is less "Radiation Poisoned" and obviously snappier and easier to say.

I'll admit to that. The title was a little misleading. V.A.T.S. was just easier to type than "Optional Dramatic Third-Person Slow-Motion Battle System in Skyrim?"... Plus I thought anyone with half a brain would know what I meant. And when I realized there were a few people posting on here without half a brain, people saying stuff like, "it would destroy the TES series this isn't the future," I clarified the opening post, three times, to let everyone know what I was really asking... So even though I already have, I'll apologize again for using the phrase "V.A.T.S." in the title. Sorry... Anyway, I have a feeling that even though the majority of the people who have voted in this topic did so with a resounding NO, we are still going to see something similar to V.A.T.S. is Skyrim. We are the hardcoe fans. And although Bethesda appreciates our loyalty, we are not the only ones they pay attention to. There are are just as many casual fans of the series... People who wouldn't be shocked and offended if one aspect of a Fallout game made its way into the Elder Scrolls. Bethesda listens to casual gamers too. And there's a lot of casual gamers. And I'm betting that the majority of casual gamers would love to see an arrow rip through a bandits eye in slow motion. Even though only a few of us hardcoe Elder Scrolls fans would like to see slow motion cinematic combat implemented, I have a feeling that the rest of you are going to have to prepare yourselves for, I guess, disappointment...? And remember if it is implemented, it will most likely be optional to use...

That's just my two cents.
