Skyrim 2.0 ?

The 1.9 update just came to steam, and I am wondering whether the next update will take us to Skyrim 2.0.

More generally, do you think we'll ever see a Skyrim 2.0, that is a major update where everything gets enhanced, from texture resolution to physics engine, to map scale and questlines/storytelling?

The PS4 has been announced, and will not be compatible with previous games. Also, Valve is porting Steam to Linux. The next-gen consoles as well as the new supported OS will need flagship titles to drag customers... Do you think Skyrim could get ported to those new running environments?

Such a portage could be an opportunity to implements features that the Devs did not have the time to put in the initial release or the DLCs. For example, the monolithic throne initially envisioned in Whiterun, or the Windhelm Pit, or the ability for the player to make profit by harming a local economy. Some questlines could be expanded, or made more intricate by interaction with other questlines. For example, your progression in the Dark Brotherhood main quest could affect the Civil War, and the Civil War could also affect the Dark Brotherhood. New factions could be added. More consequences could be added to some choices of the player. The physics engine could be tweaked to allow Volkhiars to passwall through ice.

Do you think such a major update could realistically occur?

the next update will probably come out before the summer in preperation for the next DLC

"Skyrim 2.0" will probably never be put out by Bethesda. It did come out in 2011 and already be 2 years old by the time next gen consoles release. Bethesda is probably turning their attention towards a different game for the release such as Fallout 4 and/or TES VI, while they have a smaller team focus on skyrim updates/ DLC.

The only update I could see happening would be community created, similar to the http://www.ornitocopter.net/morrowind-overhaul/

edit: said probably a lot lol

No, the next update will be 1.10. Patches are weird like that. I've known some games where patches go up will past 1.25.xx

2.0 would denote a major change in either the code or content. (Ie; The release of Halo could be considered a 2.0 due to all the changes or the enhanced editions of Baldur's Gate and Monkey Island 1+2 likewise)

And it's very doubtful that Bethesda will take the time to 'port' or enhance Skyrim for the next gen. What's the point of a launch/flagship title thats already two years old by then?

Plus, by the time the consoles are out they'll already have shifted most of their resources (What haven't already been reallocated) over to their next game. Likely to be Fallout 4.
