In Skyrim

4E 201 The end of the dark days of the Dragon Crisis
From a battered journal in a quaint shelf of the Bards College

Here is inscribed the work of a young student of the Bards College of Solitude, hidden from provincial publication shortly after the departing of the Dragonborn and the closing days of civil war. It is noteworthy that this work was never deemed professional by any standards in the college and for that reason the student nor the college ever recited the tale in wealthy towns and courts. Yet for the common man in times of ever nearing peace it is a piece worth remembering for the dark days that could indeed return.

Snow did melt and the sky did thunder
As villages famed did crumble
All at once looked up in wonder
Just in time to hear the tongues rumble
In Skyrim where the wings returned

From ash and flame a soul did stir
Beards of grey called it to their hall
High Hrothgar the soul reached clad in fur
Named it departed before them all
In Skyrim where the voices burned

Blades of old did rise from within
Guiding him down paths of war
Which alas revealed Alduin
In temple old seen was the wall of lore
In Skyrim where the black jaws yearned

With time discovered was an ally
Not of beard or flesh but scaly hide
One that did not walk but fly
Sent forth was to find the scroll that did bide
In Skyrim where old blades learned

Returned from ruins of the treacherous elves
The grip of those who did not see
But smelt and came forth from cunning delves
Wielding the scroll the old one did decree
In Skyrim where time turned

From old tongues fearsome power did grow
In time did Alduin’s wrath appear
On mountain tall the seeds of fate did sew
His defeat at hands of the mortal dear
In Skyrim where black wings disappeared

But followed Alduin was by clever design
Snow wing defeated bore him in the air
To Skuldafn where the path lead next in line
To Sovngarde where the dead did not bare
In Skyrim where the rumours littered

Old tongues and new soul together shouted
The skies ran clear and light returned
The black wings of life Alduin dismounted
Firstborn of Akatosh no longer did concern
In Skyrim where the dead returned

Now mighty is the Dragonborn
He the grey ones did call
From ash to valour he walked the path forlorn
Saving the Nords from times end that did fall
In Skyrim where in heroes are believed

I hope this proves an entertaining read! It is no perfect work of poetic art but it was fun to write and hopefully enjoyable to share :D
I have long frequented the forums on various old accounts and thought it was high time to return and do some writing! I am of course from the UK just to settle any potential spelling disputes on words such as 'valour' and 'rumour'

Beautiful. You also had some repetition at the end of each verse, which I always appreciate. "In Skyrim where..." Amazing stuff, really. And of course, I like your writing style. It sounds poetic, if a little archaic, like when you wrote "old tongues and new soul together shouted". You definitely have a way with words! If you're ever interested in RPing, be sure to check out Of Princes and Power. There are plenty of wordy type writers like you, and another addition is always welcome.

And yeah, don't worry about British/American spelling, everyone's cool about the spelling differences. I'm Australian, so us weird, rejected children of Mother England we go by your way of spelling and grammar. I just said the word spelling three times back there. Oops.

If this is a new account of yours, who were you the last time you were here, if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you for the lovely feedback Schmuty! Really encouraging :touched: ah I have no need to worry then in relation to the differences, that's handy I couldn't remember. In relation to the writing style I'm a big fan of Tolkien having read the majority of JRR and Christopher's works but I have no idea if that 'fandom' comes through at all but the archaic hint may be due to that. Not much of a RP'er myself but I always enjoy reading them so I'll have a look! Ah sadly I forgot the name and the password, as ridiculous as that sounds and rather than retrieving them via email I decided to start afresh...I believe it was '*something* Atronach' but no matter, just a few half written fan fics from years ago :D Thanks again for the response!
