Skyrim vs TES

Post » Fri Jul 08, 2011 12:33 am

We have a lot of people on these forums who think Morrowind is better than Oblivion, and who think TES is regressing. We also have a lot of criticism over decisions made for Skyrim. So how well will Skyrim really stack up? Will it be better than all other previous TES games? Will it be better than some? Wil it be so good, that it's the pinnacle of TES, and not even TES VI could best it?

What's your opinion?

Haven't played it yet, so how will I know?
But my guess is that it'll be better than all of them.

Better than Arena and Daggerfall simply due to improvements in UI, combat, ect.

Morrowind... it really depends on how they handle the atmosphere, factions, and general plot.

Oblivion, yeah, Skyrim's little E3 demo has me convinced it's blowing Oblivion outta the water.

Elder Scrolls VI? Literally impossible to tell, but I actually doubt it. I'm of the opinion that, although many good features are lost between the sequels, the overall quality of the series is only improving.

I want to be an optimist and say all of them, but no one is going to know until 11.11.11.

Lol, just noticed that, apparently more people think Skyrim will be better than Oblivion than they do of Arena. :P

I'm worried I may have unintentionally started another Morrowind-Oblivion war. :spotted owl: (Sorry, I've just always wanted to use that emote. :P)

I said Arena, seeing as all of the other games have their merits and disadvantages, wheras Arena was Daggerfall only not as good (except for having the BEST CHARACTER EVER)

irrational

oh you

EDIT: I don't actually hate Oblivion. But there are plenty of legit complaints to be made regarding how lore was treated.

What? There's no need. Morrowind is the embodiment of manifested divinity here on earth! Nothing will surpass it! I didn't play Arena or Daggerfall and Oblivion is so disappointing! It changed everything about TES for the worse even though I'm only basing this opinion off of my experience with Morrowind! Morrowind is the only true Elder Scrolls game... the one game that defines what the series is and differences from my beautiful, flawless Morrowind make any other game dumbed-down and it completely changes TES series by getting rid of the series' core values that I decided entirely from my experience with Morrowind!

What? It does apply to certain people...

Obviously anyone who remotly criticises Oblivion is just a whiny Morrowind fan who can't handle progress.

As any Arena player can tell you, Cyrodiil did not start out as a jungle, for the umpteenth time. Guess which game featured the broken lore regarding Cyrodiil. It starts with an "M" and ends with a "d". Arena showed Cyrodiil as a deciduous forest, Daggerfall made no changes, and Oblivion also portrayed it as a deciduous forest.

Could they even have made a jungle back in 1994?

I can only speak for MW and OB and an opinion on VI. I doubt it will be better than MW simply because that is my favorite game ever created. It will definitely be better than OB, thats not hard to top. Now dont get me wrong OB was a great game, but for an ES game, SR can top it easily.

I also think it will be better than TES VI, just a feeling. VI will no doubt be awesome no doubt, but if they continue with some of the changes they have done with SR it just might not be the same. SR changes are OK, they arnt horrriibbllee but they are getting closer and closer to just a pure action game.

also ps, call be a MW devoted fan or w/e cause I kind of am, and I have my reasons.

Yes, they could have. Just apply different textures to Arena and change the tree design a bit. If we're talking about dense, impenetrable foliage, they couldn't have even done that with Oblivion and still have it run smoothly, but the fact of the matter is that in both games Cyrodiil was ever shown, both before and after Morrowind's lore stated some contrary, Cyrodiil was clearly still the cosmopolitan, deciduous forested seat of the empire. I just loaded up Arena for a minute and even decided to check out good old Vvardenfell for a bit. It certainly looks different, too.

About Sutch moving, go check Ebonheart on Arena's map.

I wouldn't go that far. There is absolutely NOTHING that is beyond criticism. Not Oblivion, not Morrowind, and not even Waffles.

Unless of course you're being sarcastic and my 2:30am brain can't detect that.

Personally, I don't see the point in trying to judge which game is best out of a collection that is, on the whole, superb. Especially when you can simply play them all!
