Is Skyrim the LAST Elder Scrolls?

Post » Wed Dec 15, 2010 11:36 am

I doubt they won't make a new game seeing how many fans the series has. They make far too much money with the Elder Scrolls.

I certainly hope not. TES is far too successful and awesome for Bethesda to kill it.

I don't think there is any indication that this is the final installment. Pre-Skyrim, Todd and Pete both publicly acknowledged that it would be just plain dumb to end such a loved, successful, and lucrative series.

There was speculation after Morrowind that it was the last one, then Oblivion was announced. There was speculation after Oblivion that it was the last one, then Skyrim was announced. There was speculation after Skyrim.... well, you see the pattern.

I'm sure it will all end some day, but not today.

No it isn't. This genre, huge open-world RPG with almost total freedom, has such a huge area of improvement. There are so many more possibilties. It isn't like COD where every game is the same but in different settings and more modern graphics.

They're a business, like any other.

When their games exceed the $1,000,000,000 in sales mark then I don't think we have any concerns about them slowing down any time soon.

There's still a couple more provinces to create, and then ontop of that advances in technology allowing for returning games and perhaps the ultimate TES experience encompassing all of the lands as their final master piece! :D

No, but it's more than likely that the next Fallout will come before another Elder scrolls game after Skyrim.

They will squeeze another Fallout into this generation, and then completely blow our minds with VI in Summerset Isle.

I see things.

I really hope they put Fallout to Obsidian and just give them Skyrim's engine to use. The Elder Scrolls should be their sole priority IMO. It's the series they've done from the start, their greatest and deepest, and if I'm not mistaken, most popular.

Hell no! I dont want Obsidian to make another Fallout game after what they did with New Vegas... And I might actually be looking even more forward to a Fallout 4 from Bethesda than Skyrim. Although I am a fan of the TES as well of course.

What exactly you disliked in NV? It was far better than FO3, in my opinion.

Ah, Do'Tiraith, always the extremist. You'll kill yourself if you don't get TES 6, but you'll intentionally not get TES 5 if it doesn't have the whole of High Rock in an expansion.

I liked New Vegas but liked Fallout 3 more, why? because Fallout 3 felt like Fallout and New Vegas like a Western.

But now back on topic. I doubt Skyrim will be the last. Bethesda wouldn't throw away their best franchise like that. Think of all the money they wouldn't get!

When?

I think he is talking about the announcement trailer where it says "Their defeat was merely delay." and shows Alduin being defeated by the three dragonborns on the wall.

beth said skyrim is the ending of the current era of elder scrolls and beginning of the next one.Meaning all the story lines of the old scrolls get tied up, and a new one formed for the next 4 scrolls idk.

Skyrim is the start of the 4th era. yes, the prophecy has been told, but that doesn't mean the end of the world (unless of course you svck and let Alduin eat it). there will still be plenty of ways to make games: the empire could rise again. A new evil could unveil itself somewhere, someone could stumble upon new scrolls. Theres plenty for Beth to work with. This wont be the end.

No thats not something new, a large number of Fallout 3 (or whole series) fans disliked New Vegas and only bought it because it was a Fallout game. I am one them, I bought New Vegas including all dcls( call me stupid if you like) in hope they would improve the game and so I would not miss anything story wise.

New Vegas got good reviews from most magasins but read through fan reviews and several forums and you find a lot of dissapointed fans. The only thing New Vegas has improved on are the followers, the whole atmosphere(one of the things that made Fallout 3 so amazing) of the game svcks though imo.
It has quite a few fundamental flaws and only few good points. Starting with the main quest ... Whoever you side with whatever you do it will not affect the wasteland at all. All factions are pretty much evil/selfish and the legion just silly on top of that. The motive for the main character is revenge, to kill Benny and get more info on the platinum chip.Weak. There is zero sense of survival, most people have food, water and electricity in abundance and it is no problem getting filthy rich in no time for the player. The whole Mojave feels very empty, many houses are unused, plenty of effing invisible walls. When entering New Vegas 90% of all quests are run from A to B and talk to this and that guy. It is also divided into rather small sections btw. And the list goes on and on...
Dont get me started on game breaking bugs, but to be fair Fallout 3 had them as well in the beginning.
All in all New Vegas is a ok game to play through once or twice or even 3 or more times with mods but it doesnt come close to Fallout 3 sadly. I think if the "official" rewievers had more time to do their rewievs and see the big flaws of New Vegas, it would have gotten much much lower scores.

Maybe at the end of the game a new prophecy will be writen. as the prophecy didnt mention alduin beinf defeaten, so maybe the prophecy will have to be re-writen, or a new one started. Also you don't need to have a prophecy to make more games. I know all the games are heavily dependent on its law and prophecys but there could be a game in the future where you could re unite the empire, and travel all over tamriel and maybe even beyond to expand its empire.

The series is far too popular for Skyrim to be the last one.

Judging by what Skyrim's story is about and by Bethesda marking the previous titles "Leading up to Skyrim", I'm somewhat concerned if this is the LAST Elder Scrolls. Each Elder Scrolls game is followed by a prophecy starting when the staff of chaos was shattered in the first game. After that, every other Elder Scrolls was particularly leading up to the 5th and final prophecy which is told in Skyrim. So what does this mean? If this prophecy is over after TES5, does that mean there will be no more TES games?

Still got Elsweyr, Black Marsh, Valenwood AND Summerset isles to go.

This comes up all the time but it's such a stupid argument. No offense, I know you're just curious, TC.

The Elder Scrolls foretelling all of this leading up to Skyrim doesn't = the end, it simply = epic. It'll be a very catastrophic main quest. When it's done, we'll keep going in the game, and five years later, we'll pick up TES VI.

The thing is Daggerfall wasn't all that popular, Morrowind was pretty successful, and Oblivion was one of the most successful RPG's of all time. If you had one of the most successful RPG series, a one-of-a-kind single player experience, would you end it before you even reap the rewards of creating such a vivid world with so much lore and awesome history (and awesome games too) or would you continue making them, and even branch off and give rights to make a multiplayer game to another company as well?

I bet my hands that TES V is NOT the last TES.

Not sure what they have in mind for the future, as Beth. does make games other than TES.

My thoughts center around the idea that this is probably the last Elder Scrolls until we are into the next console cycle, with the possible exception of add ons.

If they want, they can easily continue with games along the lines of TES. Nirn is a whole world, and we have only experienced one continent.
