Is Skyrim the LAST Elder Scrolls?

Post » Wed Dec 15, 2010 2:47 pm

Judging by what Skyrim's story is about and by Bethesda marking the previous titles "Leading up to Skyrim", I'm somewhat concerned if this is the LAST Elder Scrolls. Each Elder Scrolls game is followed by a prophecy starting when the staff of chaos was shattered in the first game. After that, every other Elder Scrolls was particularly leading up to the 5th and final prophecy which is told in Skyrim. So what does this mean? If this prophecy is over after TES5, does that mean there will be no more TES games?

Unfortunately I think it's supposed to be. Like the epic ending to an amazing story. I do hope it won't be, but that's just me hoping.

its not its the most money making series bethesda has they can make five more games and each one will sell more than the one before it. that is thier money maker as it should be because the level of detail and skill is unbelievable

Bethesda ending TES at Skyrim!? Well there were people back in the days Oblivion was being made saying that Oblivion would be the last because it sounded quite final. So who knows? Personally if they make a bunch of money from Skyrim I'm sure they wont just end it there.

Well, we have Black marsh, Valenwood, Summerset isle, and Elsyer. My guess is we have four more games.

I apologize, I meant to write " I think it's supposed to be" I'll edit it. It's a hunch, because it seems like they're going all out on it.

It's only the "final prophecy" because you haven't heard about the prophecy from the 6th game yet.

Alduin has been stopped from eating the world before. He'll be stopped again.

They aren't going to stop making games in such a successful series.

why would a game developing company choose to end a franchise that makes them the most of their income. they'll keep making them as long as the games make money and people enjoy them. as far as all previous titles leading up to SK thats not really true, they did not even know what they were going to do with TES 5 until a little while after OB came out, or something along the line like that is what todd said in a magazine article.

not exactly true.. Todd did answer a question for gametrailers in an interview when they asked "Why skyrim?" and todd said "hes always wanted to make a game in skyrim, with dragons" and hes said before hes always wanted to see dragons in an elder scrolls and is happy to finally do it so it has technically been planned

How do you know he doesn't want to make a game that takes place in a swamp? There we have it...The Elder Scrolls VI; Black Marsh.

Regardless, it'll be awhile. Fallout 4 will be their next project and we'll have to wait until the next gen systems come out. I wouldn't expect it before 2016.

I have thought about that myself. But the Elder Scrolls franchise is amoung the most popular in the industry, why the heck would they drop it know? it has never been more popular. It would simply be bad business.

that isn't planning in the sense that it was being sugested that they had planned all of the other events in the previous games just for this one event in this game. always wanting to have dragons in a TES game set in skyrim is not the same as writting an ultimate plan to end a series. again, key word; wanted. not planned. and nothing in that qoute or any other part suggests that SK will be the end of TES.

EDIT: and todd literally did say something along the lines that the actual conception of what the game was going to be about took place a few months after OB's release. (not exactly they way but it is close)

I'd love to see Valenwood done next. Or maybe a game set in both Valenwood and Elsweyr. Summerset Isles could be interesting as well.

At some point though, it would really be awesome to see an Elder Scrolls game set in Tamriel as a whole. The map would have to be enormous though.

I agree, if they are going to end the series that's how I'd like it to end.

I think that if there is any thing about the return or atleast something that explains in depth how or why they disapeared will be in summerset isle, based on what one of the in game books talked about how the mages there mysteriously disapeared and then returned (or something like that, it might also have been one of the rumors in the game/a mix of both.)
