I hope it is.

That's not to say I hope it is the last game set in the same universe. I hope they continue making games in the same world but with a different major storyline not related to the Elder Scrolls.

No, this was discussed in depth after its announcement. I won't go into too much detail, but basically Bruce said why would we stop when there are so many provinces left to explore.

They said Skyrim is a new beginning for TES. We have at least 4 more provinces to go to on Tamriel and lets not forget Akavir if something ever pops up about them.

How are we meant to know?

I sincerely doubt it, but no one here is a soothsayer.

The only things the storylines have to do with each other is that they are set in the same universe and The scrolls predicted these things would happen. Except we don't know whats on the scrolls.(Well, we do, but its nonsense to us). So why not keep it going the way it is?

Skyrim will be the last Elder Scrolls game only if nobody buys Skyrim (about a 0% chance)

Let's not forget daedric realms. They're fairly big from what I know.

You can't have a game set in the TES universe that isn't tied to The Elder Scrolls because the universe is the Scrolls. By writing on the Elder Scrolls, you can change the nature of the world.

So, if it's in the world, it's in The Elder Scrolls. Each chapter is part of an ongoing storyline, though... I'm liking how they're tying Skyrim to the past games.
The significant element of Arena wasn't the Imperial Simulacrum: It was the destruction and disappearance of the Staff of Chaos.
The significant element of Daggerfall(Taking care of Hammerfell and High Rock) was the release of Numidium.
The significant element of Morrowind, what made it a Chapter in the Elder Scrolls wasn't the defeat of Dagoth Ur. It was the destruction of the Heart of Lorkan
The significant element of Oblivion was the fullfilment of the pact between Empress Alyssia and Akatoshl/Alduin.
Skyrim... we'll have to see.

I predict TES VI will be Elsweyr, and will involve the moons.

Actually yes, when Todd was asked why they did not wait for the next console generation for Skyrim, he said that "there's a lot we knew we could do, besides, we wnted to get it over with, because this will be the last Elder Scrolls". When prompted for more info, Todd said, "You can just expect more Wayne Gretzsky from Bethesda".

Aren't Arena - Skyrim's story lines based off ONE Elder Scroll? And last I read, there were tons more.

Exactly. Why not have a new storyline separate from the scrolls but in the same universe? Since, as you say, the only thing the games have in common is the universe and the predictions of the scrolls, why not have a storyline that isn't dependent on the scrolls?

So why not keep it going the way it is?

Because starting a new storyline would be quite refreshing and give them a chance to try something new.

i highly doubt we're nowhere near the end of the elder scrolls... i dont know WHY people keep asking this question, its stupid.

with the huge amounts of ever-growing lore on the series, why would only five games be the end of it? ...not counting the games that werent numbered.

at the most, we've completed one elder scroll's worth of prophecy... we'll have PLENTY of TES in the future, im sure.

But as someone else previously stated, the scrolls are the universe. What else would you have your main quest revolve around? Anything else wouldn't feel as epic.

Haha, well that's just insane. From that perspective then yeah, they're stuck with the Elder Scrolls story if the universe's existence is dependent on them. Is there proof of what he says or is it his interpretation?

I have no idea what else the story could revolve around. That's not my job but Bethesda's writers.
