I think it as all the ingredients a fantasy epic needs, and them some.

Preposterous idea. Just because it works as a game doesn't mean it would work as a movie. It's better to leave it at that.
Video game movies never turn out well. One: Games have too much content. Two: No director wants to be entirely loyal to the story, wants to create his own stuff. Third: Bethesda games' plots, being so open, would not fit into a movie.

And that's your opinion, so eloquently put.

No, no it should not. It's because of people like you that Michael Bay is still able to poison the history of cinema.

Explosions, awesome CGI. What more do you need in a movie?

Plot? Interesting characters? What the hell do they bring to the table that CGI and big bangs don't?

As a writer I have a few ideas on what would be required to make it work as a movie:

Hire a director who is used to making fantasy movies or ones that require epic panoramic photography.
Heres a thought CO DIRECTED by Peter Jackson and Zhang Yimou

The script should be written by a screenplay writer and novelist together. That way they can bounce off each other regarding what should be in or out.
The novelist should be one that writes fantasy genre.

It should be 3 parts Morrowind Oblivion and Skyrim like Lord of the Rings.

It needs character actors like Alan Rickman, Johnny Depp and Christopher Lee... please do NOT add actors that make me cry in pain at their wooden performances

The people making it MUST see it as a class movie in its own right not a movie based on a Bethesda computer game....They must believe in it.

Weta Studios who have been involved in LotR and Avatar need to be involved in it....

Ok thats the important bits

Ya know, if they got the two guys that're adapting the ASoIaF series on HBO to do a sort of mini-series deal I bet it'd be pretty decent. Not a major plot like the Dragonborn or anything, but perhaps from several different POV's like a town guard in Riften or an assassin in the Dark Brotherhood. Only hard part I foresee would be the depiction of Argonians and Khajiits. Would be hard to not make them...hilariously terribad.
