OT: Skyrim The Movie!

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 3:12 am

OK not really, but a movie with measurable grandeur is being released the same day as the game. I actually made a recommendation that this director should be the one to direct an Elder Scrolls movie if one was ever produced. The movie is called Immortals. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1253864/

It is directed by Tarsem Singh who likes to take his time crafting his films. He averages about 1 film every decade. Kind of reminds me of Bethesda and their ES games. Anyways, he scouts some amazing locations around the world and creates some visually stunning cinematography. His last movie was The Fall, which was amazing.

Interview with Tarsem about The Fall and how he makes his movies - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zit2GwAV_rU&feature=fvst

The beautifully shot opening sequence to the film - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zit2GwAV_rU&feature=fvst

The Trailer for The Fall http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iO0LYcCoeJY&feature=related

The trailer doesn't really do the movie justice. There is some crazy stuff going on in this movie. Tarsem also did The Cell.

What do you think?

Agreed. He is an amazing director, now that I think about it he would be great for an Elder Scrolls movie.

EDIT: Oh by the way, you're going to get a lot of flamers who despise the idea of an ES movie.

What exactly does this have to do with Skyrim?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116136/ is in the recommendations, and that's more similar than Immortals from the looks of it.
And as long as Uwe Boll doesn't do a movie, I don't particularly care who the director is.

I actually think the less content that Bethesda is not 100% in charge of the better. Books and movies by people with no respect for lore can only damage the series. I realize Greg Keyes may have done a lot of background checking and such but there is nothing that says everyone else will, just look at what happened to DB: Evolution...

You would need a lot of talent attached to a VG movie to make it good. Unfortunately, Hollywood doesn't care about that. If they can put some talentless hacks together like Channing Tatum and Sam Worthington, then put them in some VG drivel that gets panned by critics but makes a profit, they'll do it without blinking. There's no need, or desire to have Scorsese for example, make a VG movie. Not to mention when they go for VG movies, the more linear and popcorn bore worthy, the better. That's why we will see a Halo or Gears movie before a Fallout or ES film.

I would personally love an ES movie, if it was done well. I mean, it has to really feel like it's the same world, it has to be done to such a degree that I doubt any random director in Hollywood could do it. The last thing I want is a Dragonball Evolution for ES.

Was DB:E THAT bad as everybody says? I think I'll watch that movie only out of curiosity (and as a former fan of anything DB in my ages :) ).

He has already ruined LOTR, I'll shoot him in his noble parts if he dares to touch TES. I swear.

TES has the lore and background to make a wonderful movie, but capturing the grandeur of the Elder Scrolls would be impossible unless a solid story was constructed for its purpose. Converting one of the games story lines has to many problems to make a movie simply because it isn't like Halo, Metal Gear, or Final Fantasy in its sequence of occurring events. It is the kind of series where one could forget a main quest existed and if one makes a movie based on it then many fans would feel it lacks the epicness that is an Elder Scrolls game. The solution would be creating a new story but this would be up to the writers and directors taste and would also leave many fans hating it. True that if done right then I would probably consider the best movie ever, but the fan base is to small to pay for the budget that would probably be needed to get it done. You also have the fact most would consider it a LOTR copy and that wouldn't go over to well with some people. Wish it would happen, but I honestly can't see it working to well.

If you didn't like the LOTR movies then why are you even giving DB:E a chance? See if you can even get through a trailer first, I'm sure you can't. Also, the LOTR movies were good, what are you on?

What!? How did he ruin LOTR? I was a big fan of the books and read them long before the movies and out. And I can say that he did the best film adoption that has been done. They are hard books to make movies out of and to be a good and ,more importantly good selling movie you have to change the lore and the plot somewhat becasue some stuff just does not work on the screen.

If you understand spanish, http://www.cyberdark.net/portada.php?edi=6&cod=267 pretty much sums up my own opinion (Return of the King review).

Gimli. Definitivamente, sólo le falta ser negro para que el papel de secundario gracioso le venga como anillo al dedo.

An ES movie would be best made if it followed the story of an in game book. In fact three of the books, with three different stories, or 'chapters' per say. Most likely a mage type story, a thief story and a warrior story. As for the thief story, Id like to see a longer, more descriptive Purloined Shadow. Also we dont need action every five minutes either. Since this is a movie and not a game, we could have long breaks in the action, to keep it above the various popcorn drivel it will probably be associated with.

As has been said, if you thought LOTR was bad...

I watched the trailer and got angry, a friend told me to watch the movie and I tried but only a few minutes in I started feeling sick, I turned off the TV and literally (the term for when something actually really happened) ran to the toilet and puked in it... think I got sick from holding my breath in frustration.

I will never, ever watch the whole movie. And I have seen the entirety of DB, DBZ and DBGT

Don't say that too loud, or lots of teenagers will buy the DVD in order to have an excuse for becoming sick and skip school days :D

And God said; Let there be light - but then man said 'Nay!' and used his anti-laser to kill the light. And they were left in darkness, which kindda svcked because now they couldn't see anything.

[No offence intended]

It's gonna be so awesome when they create anti-antimatter

As I said, changing the taciturn, proud and serious Gimli into that kind of black race-clown-like secondary character which Hollywood movies can't seem to exist without it is one of those details that kinda ruins the original spirit and intention of the books.

And changing many important parts from the book, allegedly saying that "Tolkien was wrong in this and that" (he was an amateur writer after all) and ADMITTING that very attitude in the Making Off DVD also belongs to my definition of "ruining it".

I've got a full list of other complaints, if you're interested.

Not to mention Merry and Pippin, in the books they were helpful, resourceful and more intelligent than anyone else in the fellowsip (they FIGURED OUT Bilbos secret for goodness sake AND that he'd left it for Frodo) in the movie they were just some random Hobbits that tagged along for the ride to provide some comic relief, Legolas was dissapointing too, becoming an action hero. Elrond and Aragorn were the only two who lived up to the book. I'd prefer a MW of Daggerfall film to be honest, if they made a Skyrim film it wouldn't capture the incredibly individual cultures as well as a Daggerfall or MW film would

Yeah, Merry and Pippin was also "de judgado de guardia".

Sorry, but I don't believe there's anybody who can claim that he's a serious Tolkien fan and a lover of the books, and also say that those movies are GOOD. You can say they've made it with profit in mind (hence the changes). You can say they offer a nice entertaintment for quite some hours. But no one can say they're GOOD, in the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_S9FhpCvQo sense.

The books are masterpieces. the movies are Hollywood crap made for profit.
